Jack Bauer could be hitting the big screen as soon as later this year, according to various reports.

The plans would involve shooting a movie version of 24 this summer, after the current fifth season wraps and before the sixth season airs in 2007.

Speaking to reporters at the winter TCA tour, lead star Kiefer Sutherland reiterated his intent to work on the project but admitted that it presented problems for producers Joel Surnow, Howard Gordon and Bob Cochran.

"It's certainly something that I've expressed an incredible amount of interest in doing," he said. "It is something that Joel, Howard and Bob and I have all talked about. One of the real difficulties, and Joel's expressed it in a number of interviews, is that any time they got really close to having a great idea for a film, we needed it for episode 18, so there it went."

"I love playing the character and it's something I care an awful lot about," Sutherland continued. "And I think certainly it is a genre of film that I have always loved as an audience person. I think there is an audience out there for that."

Although I've seen only the first three seasons(on DVDs), I do like the show a lot. I thought the first two seasons were just amazing. If they do film this movie, I would be very interested.

Pfft! You can't condense a "24"-type story into 2 hours!
 I think they are going to have to settle for just using the characters from the movie. It would be cool, if they can connect the plot of the movie between season 5 and 6.

It'd be hilarious if it was a whole 24 hours.

As a theater owner, you'd be able to farm the '24' junkies for about two weeks with a 24 hour movie...

Run the first two hours one day, then the next two, and so on.

Your theater would make gazillions.

I've heard reports of them doing half the film like a normal movie and the last hour in real time. I think that could work, though the whole film would have to be based on a single day, exept for maybe the very first scene like in a couple of the series.

Yeah since the series are normally only about 18 hours each. If they did a 24 hour movie they might as well just call it season 6. Not that a 24 hour movie is even going to be suggested.
