I'm currently 20 hours into the 24h Nürburgring A-spec endurance race. The problem is that I'm between 5 and 6 minutes behind the leader (due to poor driving and pit strategy while raining overnight). It is currently dry and I'm gaining between 5 and 10 seconds a lap (if I don't make mistakes). At this rate, I think 4 hours isn't enough time left to catch the leader.

So, is there any conceivable way that I can still win this race? (I really don't feel like doing another 24 hours.) :nervous:

14,000 seconds in 4 hours.

You should have plenty of time, that's if you keep it clean of course.

It's 4 more hours to possibly win and certainly get more practice at the Ring. Without knowing whether your car is slower, even or faster than the AI cars it's tough to say whether gaining 5-10 seconds per lap is the best you should be able to do or not. In even cars you can gain more than that if you know your way around well.

You say you don't want to do another 24 hours, but you only have 4 hours left(not really a whole lot of time). So why abandon the race and do a whole 20 hours over again, when you could just run the last 4 hours and possibly still win and possibly learn how to find a bit more speed at the Ring? I'd personally think running the first 20 hours of the 24 over again isn't much better than running the last 4 and seeing what happens first.

Keep cutting across the grass to cut out the chicane just before the gp track meets the nordschleife

When I did it, it rained hard through the night too and I lost time, I also ran out of petrol and had to crawl a few miles to the pits
I used the 787b and even with those problems managed to win.

just drive, corner by corner, nice and clean, nice and tidy.

Enjoy the track and don't clock watch.

Perhaps I should elaborate. I'm running the Audi R8 '05 Race Car with minimum downforce. The leader is the Audi R8 '01 (not sure what tires). I'm getting 7'50"-8'00" laps on 3 lap stints on racing hard tires. I've tried to do 4 laps on them and failed. I've also tried 3 lap stints on racing medium and failed. I've yet to try racing soft tires, is this a risk I should take?

Do racing softs on the front and racing hard in the rear...it should give you more bite in the corners...plus, on most MR cars the softs on front and hard in rear will wear away at the same time, so you should still be able to do 3 lap stints

Focus on the race. and don't let anything distract you. Find a pace that allows you to gain the needed amount of seconds per lap, without pushing so hard that you'll be making mistakes. And enjoy it! If you get frustrated, you'll make mistakes. If you enjoy the competitive race, then you're more likely to do well.

Good luck. You can do it!

Try racing soft tires driving as hard as you can and pit ever lap adding fuel each time you should be able to run a lot faster lap this way. It's worth spending time in pits ever lap if you can run the lap in under 7:40. How often is the leader pitting?

1 You can cut the chicane.

3 Race soft pit in 2 stints, refuel when 1/4 fuel is remaining.

So to enable the suspend bug, do I wait at the preview screen until track moisture reaches 100%?

And would 2 lap stints on RS be much quicker than 3 lap stints on RH, given I have to pit more often?

Anyway, I'll try to fit RS at front and RH at rear to see if it works.

How often is the leader pitting?

I think the leader pits every 4 or 5 laps.

Yes that is correct and pitting and refueling every lap cost to much time i dont recommand it.

I ran the race in the Nissan GT-R R35 TC with average laps of 8:12 so in the R8 he should average at least 7:40 every lap, if the leader is pitting every 4/5 laps he's taking a lot of time refueling each time he pits while your only spending about 25 seconds to pit and running faster laps than he is.

Take a good break, make sure your fresh then go for it. Treat it like the 4hr sprint endurance as stated if you need to cut the grass do so but if your any good and have a car thats competitive you should be able to pull it back. On a good lap in the dry you should be 30 to 45 seconds quicker.

It should be, soft tyres have sooo much more grip that the Hards although they wear quicker, you should be able to make them last so that you can pit at the end of the second lap every time.

On a side note these quick wearing tyres are annoying although it does produce good online racing in the league I am in.

I took the data you provided and let Excel chew it for a bit. If the data is correct you will need to gain 13 seconds per lap in order to catch the leader. Now you're gaining 5-10 seconds every lap, so you only need to step it up a little bit more. Including pit stops, you will need to average a lap time of 8:12.

For each lap of the stint it would be:

Lap 1 | 8:37 (lap starts with pit stop, roughly 45 seconds)
Lap 2 | 7:57
Lap 3 | 8:02

If you can pull that off for four hours and the rest of the data is correct, you will overtake the leader on the very last lap.

Try the race soft tires and go for 2 laps only, always keep your fuel very low, (a quarter should do), then you can have fast pit stops and flying driving with new tires.

I'm doing it right now with a Audi R8 Race Car (Team Playstation), with times between 7m50 - 8m30 (pits). After 5 hours, I'm 1 lap ahead the second (Audi R10).

If you do RS tires and one lap stints, you may be able to recoup time. You should be able to get by with 16-17 liters(I can't remember the exact amount I could be off a bit) per stop. This is basically the same about of time it takes to finish installing new tires. If you do two laps on RS tires I'm guessing you're close to no grip for the last two minutes of the second lap and losing a lot of time. Doing one lap stints you'll do way more pit stops, but lose significantly less time on track, while not losing a lot of time refueling. I used a stock R10 and beat the R8 by a lap I think, it was a while ago.

You'll gain more than enough time with the soft tires and 2 lap stints to make up for making 50% more stops.

It would help to know what car you're using, as well as the current leader.

I know you have good intentions, but how would you feel being in second after driving for 24 hours?

Sorry to hear that. Even with the save function, going through this endurance is quite a challenge. I don't know what are your stats to this point, but with the right selection of tires and clean and constant driving, you might be able to catch on with the first plcace.

I wasn't even able to finish the 4hour endurance before I got too tired(even with the save fuction). The longest endurance I managed to finish was the Grand Valley 300 and the 200 mile Lagauna Seca. But I muct admit that they were a pain to complete, even using a car that was at the same level as my competition to keep it interesting.

So I must give you credit for trying this event.

Exactly.

If you need to do the bug, do so. It would suck bad to be going on a race for 24 hours and losing...

Update: when I restarted at 20 hours in, I tried a new RM front and RH rear combo on my R8 '05. This worked well, because I could still run 3 lap stints and my lap times were 5 seconds faster than before.

Then rain started to fall at 20:30, and I changed to RS all round, since apparently they are quicker than inters or wets, and the wear rate is extremely slow compared to dry. But now the track is at 100% moisture, and I'm finding it very slippery, so I'm changing to inters.

I'm assuming that the leading R8 01' has switched to full wets, so I might catch it by 30 seconds a lap now as those tires are really slow (I found out the hard way). I'm about 4 minutes behind with a bit more than 2 hours to go. I think this will go down to the wire!

Hope all goes well for you man, I'd tear my hair out of I did a 24 hour race & only came second!

Remember keep calm & carry on!

Grats for taking on the challenge mate 👍

I am actually going to take a week off of work (I have too many days anyway so no dramas from HR/management) to do both 24hr races in 4-6 hour stints. I bought the game at release, had A40 approx. mid last year and still haven't done them :( I have tried to but ended up annoyed.

Now I know of this 'hack', I may just have to play on it ;)

I would feel better than if I had won simply because I had cheated, that's for sure. :)

Be warned that the suspend bug can work against you, for example when it is raining and the resume screen displays dry weather. The AI will be significantly quicker than before.

I think this happened to me in the 24h Le Mans race (it was wet the whole way through). I still managed to win that by about 2 minutes. :)

bryanf: This might not help you any more since it's turned wet, but the way the pit stops work in this game makes it so racing soft is *always* faster than hard and medium in long races. Even if you have to pit every single lap, the time you gain out on the ring will make up the time you spend in the pit (albeit pretty boring to never get to drive down the s/f straight!).

The reason is because the crew changes tires and refuels at the same time, so you always get 12-13l fuel "for free" while they change tires. Or putting it in another way; If one lap consumes 13l of fuel you get that refill for free when you change tires every lap, while someone who pits every 3rd lap has to refill 39l so he's stationary 3x as long each stop. That means the only time you really "lose" by stopping each lap is how long it takes to drive down pitlane at XX km/h compared to going full speed on the straight. On the ring I think it's about 15s, and you gain a lot more than 15s per lap with RS over RH. If you can stretch softs to two laps it's not even funny.

This is not something I normally recommend, since I think it's unrealistic and takes all the fun out of it, but if you're in a pinch then it's a sure way to gain time compared to finishing on hard tires.
