GPR's vision of the theme:

Quite often I find myself thinking 'If only that barrier wasn't there.' or 'What if there was a massive cityscape beyond the track.' Basically what I'm getting at is you can take any shot you want but I'd like to see some modified scenery, like barriers removed and elements added like buildings or mountains or trees or even sci-fi elements if you like. Transform the all too familiar tracks in to something unique or enhance what is already there. Of course being 3.0 go nuts with fx if you like or a simple subtle edit, it's up to you.

Locations: Any
Phototravel:Nope

UNIQUE RESTRICTIONS: Must alter the scenery in some way.

The rules are given a lax hold this time to allow for the theme. It was a theme not to be missed!

Please, ensure you read and understand all requirements for this competition. Failure to follow
the rules may result in disqualification. If you have questions, send me a Private Message.

This Thread will answer many possible questions you may have.

• It is recommended you host your image on ImageShack, Photobucket, or Flickr.
• Not sure how to post a thumbnail or preview image? Read this sticky!
• Please use a clickable-preview to full-size, not a separate text link for it;
it makes poll creation much easier!

• One entry per user.
It must be your own work, and never previously used in a comp.
• Do not ask other users to choose your entry.
• Mark your FINAL ENTRY clearly, with red text.
• You may change your entry once. Do it clearly; edit out your previous entry, and
either post the new one in a new reply, or in place of the original.
• When submitting, use either a thumbnail or a preview image, linked to the full-sizer.
• Preview images can not exceed 500 pixels in either direction.
• A preview image must be representative of the full-size image. Do not add effects to it.
• Do not post "Honourable Mentions" or outtakes - just your Final Entry, that's all.
• Winner gets to choose the following week's theme, as well as the Top 15.
• Winners cannot enter in their own theme!
• The Host may ask for the original image and it must be submitted if so.
• It's recommended to save the original image (preferably in-game) until week's ends.

• Crop and/or resize an image.
• Adjust the level or curve values.
• Alter the colour tone of the image (gradient maps, photo filters, colour balance, etc).
• Car body colour change (all stickers/design features must remain, see "Remove Items" rule).
• Adjust brightness, contrast, exposure, shadow/highlights.
• Enhance shadows or highlights (dodge and burn tools in Photoshop, for example).
• Add noise and/or diffuse glow.
• Add a post-game tilt-shift blur, or apply a motion blur to a stationary Photomode shot.
• Make use of Layer Blend Modes.
• Use a Sharpening filter and/or tool.
• Scale or enlarge rims.
• Remove or modify license plates.
• Remove the GT watermark.
• Add a personal signature.
• Clean up or fix jaggies, texture pixelation, or colour separation.
• Add a vignette effect.

• Artistic filters are allowed; that means green light for lens flares, ghost effects, etc.
• Weather edits are allowed but do refrain from using it on every single entry you put out.
• Multiple photos are allowed, HDR and photo-stitch away!
• Selective colouring and masking of the car or background is allowed.
• Light leaks, dirt particles, fractal effects, typography, and any along the lines of the mentioned are allowed.

• Small images outside of GT5 is allowed. This includes logos, car body parts (e.g. rims, decals), textures (e.g. retro filter grain), small objects (e.g. trees, grass, bricks).
• Large images are, however, disallowed. This includes background swapping, placing a whole car into the photo, changing the environment entirely and etc.

(e.g. trees, grass).
• On the issue of placing cars into photos, if the car is taken from a GT5 photo, and placed into another GT5 photo, it's fine. This makes for multi-car phototravel shots.

• IMPORTANT: Winners, to allow for a more open competition (not too restrictive), please limit the description of your theme at your own will. (Try to avoid themes like "Mazdas at Nurburgring", or "Only at Trial Mountain")

Please refrain from distancing away from the theme with your edits, saying if there is not really a need for a weather edit, it is recommended that you don't add it in.

Failure to follow these rules will result in ignored entries and/or disqualification!

Metropolis...Somewhere In Time

Stranger In A Strange Land......

I've always loved the image of massive cities in the future full of flying cars and old abandoned roads that lead out of the city.

In the midst of a busy day, flying cars, huge transporter ships in the sky and the glow of the neon there is a sound that hasn't been heard for over 100 years...the sound of an old supercar racing out of the city. It's owner breaking the law for one last drive.

👍👍

You made me cry... I now imagine some guy in the future, who goes drifting wth some JDM-ride, illegal of course, and people look after that very old piece of technic, which screams, lets his BOVs whistle and shots massive Turbo-farts out of its exhaust:sly:

Great shots guys, LOVE the theme GPR. Still twisting my brain on what to do. I really like the challenge of working heavily on the background, this would be a first for me.

Well this has already gotten a good response which is great to see. :) Albeit mostly older shots they are still great. Still, will be nice to see some more new stuff come in. 👍

FINAL ENTRY

Dreading Civilization

Repelled and disgusted by civilization a man decides to go on a drive far away and cut loose. Sadly, shackled by the chains of society, he must return back.

Lovely theme George! And Lee, good to see you're here too! :D
Also, great work hgrf93 and RaY29rus! 👍

How exactly is this meant?

"• Large images are, however, disallowed. This includes background swapping, placing a whole car into the photo, changing the environment entirely and etc."

Mentioned in the OP. For any of you missing it though, here's it again. :)

Giulietta: I would add a small outer glow around the lasers in that pic. Maybe even with some slight opacity to darken the green so it doesn't look like it came right out of MS paint. Great photo, just my 2 cents.

Cheers Mopar:tup:
I used MS paint for the whole shot:lol:

I did mess around with gaussian blur on the laser blasts, but settled for a slight blur in the end.

You got an entry coming soon?

Probably not. The last time I used photoshop I didn't set the date on my computer back so the trial is over, and I'm not gonna spend the money or time for a key that works.

I've also checked out the pic on flickr, and it does look better than the compressed version seen in this thread. From GTP it just looks like some neon green lines

Yeah I noticed that too. The original shot was on x2 mode on the gt5 camera, so the compression hurts even more.

I use GIMP as its completely free. 👍
