Good morning,

I am looking at upgrading my rig from a 40" LCD to a 3 monitor setup. I was considering using 3 pico type LED projectors and building a "wrap around" screen onto which to project them. This would eliminate the bezel situation.

My question is two fold...
Has anyone done this (I assume somebody out there has tried it), what issues were experienced?
Has anyone got design schematics for a 3 section wrap around screen?

I'm thinking these little projectors could handle 3 40" (or so) screens in a semi-darkened room.

Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated! 👍

Danke,

Hi, you do not give much info, are you for playing from consoles, PC or intending both?

Their are several guys on the forums here that are currently going or already have done the "triple projector" configuration.

Of course on PC their are much more options and support including specialist software that can correct an image for a curved or indeed dome style screen.

On consoles you will have a distorted yet still impressive image like shown below.
(LOL @ 6:50 :))

However really only GT & Forza seem to be the only games that get "multi-screen support".

Is 3D an interest to you?
Several 3D projectors are available at decent prices but if going 3D compatible look for one with a high lumen's output to help with the 3D image (usually darker). Take note of different projectors throw distance and space required to get the screen size you require. One thing is certain these type of configurations need a lot of planning and effort put into ensuring the end result projects onto your screens perfectly.

Nvidia 3D Vision in surround seems to have a great deal of title support. Various 3D projectors can be made work with this using some (Acer ini.file). Nvidia are likely to update their official compatibility lists with recent models.

Ati do apparently have new upcoming driver support for Eyefinity in 3D. Something they have yet not offered. Game support will be the question on everyone's lips as already Nvidia offer loads of supported games.

Personally I am for using 3x Optoma GT750 projectors as for me these offered the best spec at their price point and it offers full HDMI 720p 1.4 3D support as well as being possible to use with Nvidia's 3D Vision. They do have a very short throw lens also giving typically twice the image size as a standard projector.

I will be waiting to see how Ati's drivers evolve and gonna hold off to March before building a new PC and considering the upcoming 7990.
