Everyone starts GT4 with a cheap car (except for you lucky bastards who still had your memory cards from GT3) and works throught the first part of the game modifying it and upgrading it... by this time, you either have a bunch of LMPs in your garage or a brace of Vipers and Skylines tuned up to and over 800hp.

I'd like to see how sharp your tuning skills are, though. I'm trying to see what's the fastest car that can be assembled for exactly 34,200 cr. or under (or 4 million yen in real life, 3.5 million in GT4). I've picked this number as a good achievable number that leaves at least some cars buyable. Here's the mechanics:

Division I

1. Car must not exceed 34,200 cr. in price. (American Version)
2. Total build must not exceed 34,200 cr. in price.
3. Car MUST be available as "brand new" in the dealership car lots. NO SECONDHAND CARS.
4. Tires are Sports Soft, sponsored by the organizers. THEY ARE COUNTED AS FREE.
5. Oil changes count towards price total.
6. If adjustable parts (like suspension and wings) are put on, please specify settings.
7. As long as it fits in the budget, ANY MOD is LEGAL.
8. Time trial with ASM and TCS off at Autumn Ring. A MUST
9. Times obtained with A/T equipped cars (example: Mazda Protege, Honda Fit W) must be done with A/T option on... no cheating!
10. If the car is a regular manual, use M/T. If you've changed to a sports tranny, use M/T.

Division II

1. Cars in Division II must be available for sale in the USED CAR LOT II.
2. Rules for UCI and Historic Lots to follow. (Will probably give price adjustments)
3. All other rules apply.

Target is a car that can make it around Autumn Ring in 1:30:000 or less. 1:25:000 may be asking too much... (personal best is 1:24:xxx). If you wish to submit a car or time, try to submit more than one... as there are one or two specific cars that I'm expecting everyone to submit once they check the dealership prices.

Cars should also be compared to stock cars around the same course

Will also personally check out your car/setting to see how it "feels" to drive, then will complete a write-up about it in another week or two. I've already got three or four good set-ups, please give me more!

EDIT:

Current Record for Division I: 1:21.425 - Missing Link - C.C.

Sounds good, except for:

I'm not too interested in running an automatic with NOS :yuck:

Why specify ASM and TCS settings? ASM and TCS are going to be slower, no doubt about it.

Why A/T only?

Yeah, transmission and driving aids should be optional. That's the standard for all online racing at GTP.

What I mean is: If the car comes stock with A/T, it should be driven that way only... unless you change the tranny. The only car eligible for this comp that I can think of that this rule applies to is the Mazda Protege. Everything else you can drive manual.

ASM and TCS off. There are few cars in this price range that have such options.

Let me further add that you should compare lap times between stock and your modified. I know some cars will be much faster than others, but I'd like to give props to cars which are much better modified than stock within this range.

For example: If you buy a Subie for 28950 and all you change is the tires, then the difference in time is definitely less than if you tune a Honda Fit W!

My current best is now 1:24:545... for that special car... for all the rest, near 1:31 is all I can manage...

Bump... I hate to do this, but I need my research!

Like I said, AT for AT cars only, anything with a 5 or 6 speed can be played manually. I'm just going to wait another week before finishing my comparo... thanks!

Am First up:

2004 Honda Civic Type R (EP04) - cr 23,310

Lapped the Autumn Ring in 1.30.019

Mods are as follows:
RC Exhaust- cr 4600
Chip Upgrade - cr 1000
Single Plate Clutch - cr 1000
RC Flywheel - cr 900
Sports Suspension -cr 3100
Sports Soft Tires (COmplimentary)

TOTAL runs up to 34,210.00

I found a car that is street legal that will smoke all these cars...It's the tuned up golf R32...32,000 and has 550hp...I'll run a lap or two

Please clear this up for me:
Is it 34,200 for the car, and 34,200 for mods?

Or is it 34,200 for the entire build?
I ask because lines #1 and #2 seem to contradict the bold print above them.

s12ken
Total cost should be no more than 34,200.00

Excellent!!
I have like 8 cars with stock P/W ratios under 7.0, and one under 5.0.

Can't wait to see what they'll do modified.

After I see some other contributions, I'll reveal my ride.

It only took me a couple of hours to come up with a suitable car.
If I give up my "research" too soon, nobody else will have to work for it.

I found 21 cars that are easily eligible for this. I then figured out rough power/weight ratios. I figured the cars moving the least amount of weight per HP would make the best candidates. That narrowed the feild down to about 6 cars with p/w ratios under 7.0 I then played with the 3 with the best P/W ratios.
Even if it isn't the fastest car I've tested, I'm reluctant to give up my findings.

BTW, the HPA Motorsports R-32 Golf sells for a bit over 31,000, and will smoke anything else in the price range.

I ran three laps and got it down into the 1'25's with only and oil change, weight redux 1, and the complimentary tires.

It's so fast that I motion that we declare it a "ringer", and disallow its use.

Also, don't bother with the Neon. It needs more suspension work to make it a contender, but it will run under 1'30. It just takes a lot of concentration.

*edit* Seems I edited out my time.
I was at 1'27.xxx with the car I used.
I couldn't get under 1'30 in 3 laps with the MR-S, or the Neon SRT-4.
I got close... but no cigar.

My first place car is running 1'26.xxx, with no problems.
With a better shoe behind the wheel, It could likely shave 2 full seconds.

I used the Camaro SS

s12ken
uh... what car?

See above post.

There are only like 3 cars in the designated price range with the entire game.

I also bet that allowing the 'used' cars in would widen the choices a lot.

But, I was good I played by your rules. (except for boldly revealing my car)

HAHAHAHA!!!  ... you beat my damn lap-time.

Didn't want to say it, but that 1:24:5xx was with the Camaro!... but with the old 30k rule (still have 4k left).... this means war!

P.S.: Glad someone finally figured out which car gave the best stock-vs-modified split. :D

lol..I knew it from the start..I just was waiting...first I knew about the HPA R32..now this...but there could be 1 more

-1050(racing flywheel)
-1700 sports clutch
-50(oil change)
-1200 (rear wing)
50 cr left

lap time coming soon

Well the best I could muster out of the WRX was a 1:24:660..although I was .875 ahead of it at 1 time so you can expect a high 1:23 out of it when I race later on.

The Mustang is one, but it's slower than the Camaro.

American cars are good for this test, as WR1 does a hell of a lot for heavy cars. On lighter cars, it's not as useful, and the money and go to something else.

I'm going to go home later and see what I can get. :)

I actually thought that the Mustang, ran better than the Camaro.
I was faster in it.
I think because it has a better acceleration curve, w/o having to put in the race trans.
Both cars seemed a bit tail happy, but they turned in the times!

Have a shot at the MR-S, and maybe the Peugeot 106 for kicks and giggles.

Nah, for kicks and giggles, it has to be the turbo Miata, hands down... I powerslid to sub-1:30s in that one, but it's still slow... I'm going to dedicate the weekend to getting a 1:23 from one of these damn cars!

The MRS is great, if only it had more power... :(

PM me your set-ups and times? I'm going to put this as an article in my magazine... :D :D :D

Okay, but for the most part, since the capital available was so short, On the cars that got suspension mods only got "sports" and there really isn't much to do there but lower the car almost to the bump-stops and increase the camber.
I have to go get a set of tires right now, but I'll get the info to you later.👍
