360 at the Ring

hello all...this is my first post on this forum, so apologies if this has been done before...i had a look round but couldnt find anything that quite matched.

Anyhoo, i'm sure there are a few of you out there, like myself, who fancied a small break from the usual high powered, brown trouser inducing widowmaker races we are used to with GT......so......i decided to take the "loveable" little Subaru 360 '58 for a spin round the Ring.......and what fun!!!!!!!.....ya can get all the way round without once using the break......or taking ya finger off the acceleration button, although i think i now have tendonitis. :nervous: . A very pleasurable drive it was indeed, although by the back straight i felt like getting out for a walk, or at least sticking my leg out the door to scoot the car along a bit quicker. (50mph top speed....downhill!!!)....and i was a lapped by a guy on a pogo-stick!!!

The car set up was....1st stage turbo (31bhp), 1st stage weight reduction and R3 tires front and back, everything else was set as when it was bought from the little man from Subaru.

Time for one lap...(drum roll please).......16min 13.865 secs

I'm sure there must be someone else out there who fancies a crack at this.....i'd love to know how ya get on. :)

ps....ya dont have to stop to read some of the graffitti either.

EDIT: Are those times for a standing start, or *cough* excuse the term *cough* uh, flying laps?

Mine was my 2nd lap. You can gain about 20-30 seconds over the normal rolling start lap if you are on a flying lap.

EDIT: I know this should probably be in the lap time comparisons forum, but it'll get more laughs here!
 
I've read on this forum someone has actually done this with one of those two pre-1900 cars. Top speed is like what... 16km/h?
 
The 2cv was boring as it was on the rev limiter all the time, but I think the Carol got up to about 80mph!

You realise of course that your screenshots show that you did 5 laps of the Nurb in an hour...

This sounds like fun. I've been having a play with these slower cars at the 'ring lately (The old-skool Beetle, the 3-wheeled Midget, etc) and I'llhave to try the Subaru and the Mazda.

With the Midget I had to change down into 1st gear to get up the steeper hils, and tapping the handbrake to coast downhill was a hoot!

It sure gives you time to concentrate on the scenary! - And boy does it make you want to get the perfect line. But at these speeds that's not hard, but I end you wanting to be inch-perfect on every corner, to keep maximum momentum... :crazy:

It's kind of infectious and addictive... :nervous:
 
I think it's a challenge to drive these slow old cars on Citta di Aria. I tried the 3 wheeled Midget (untuned) on it (reverse direction). That steep part after the long back straight killed me...
 
My exercises in futility at the Ring:
Life step van - 14 19.591
Model T- 16 10.29
360 - 17 45.813
Midget (3 wheel) - 17 55.76
2CV - 18 10.241

All are completely stock in Arcade time trial mode (b-spec(3)) except the Model T that can't make it in b-spec but goes fine in a-spec...
 
Me and my friend did a 360 race at the 'Ring. I beat him, and my time was just under 21 minutes. We actually got to play a little bit of cards on the straight, and just kept our thumbs on X.
 
I did it in the Model T, it was kinda fun. Tapping it into neutral, coasting downhill to nearly 90mph, nearly losing it as you try to make a turn at that speed...fun times.

The 3-wheel midget currently holds the record of "slowest car built after 1950 around the Nordschleife" at 18mins or so. I've got a log of my best lap times somewhere - all done with no aids on N3's, hence slower lap times than people are setting here.
 
Definitely still one of my favorite cars of GT4 though! Even if i never drive it, it just looks saikou! I mean... 60s (always good), that baby blue color, 3 wheels...
Is it possible at all to complete a Citta di Aria reverse lap with it in stock in arcade?

Amusingly, it seems to me that the Midget will spend most of it's lap time slooooowly decelerating. It's not so much the optimal time to upshift you have to worry about, it's the optimal time to downshift.

I'd say that applies to any car that needs to change down around the course...

Honda N360 - possibly THE worst car to drive around the 'Ring. It's got no power, gear changes take forever, and the engine screams sooo badly it will give you a headache :sick:
 
You guys inspirewd me to waste 17 minutes and 42 seconds of my life last night taking the Midget around the 'Ring.
You know there's some thing wrong with you when you start thinking 60 mph is fast.

the fiat panda is my slow car of choice around the ring. it's just like taking a leisurely sunday ride home through the ridiculous countryside.

I will try it tonight and tell you my time!

Edit: Ok, tried it just now with the same settings... Stage ! Turbo, Stage 1, weight reduction and R3 Tires.

My time 16:09.759 How you ask? Simple... just don'T let the rev limiter get on... its better to always go at 79KM (mine is set that way) then to go from 74 to 80 all the time because of the limiter.

jammyozzy, that picture doesnt show that it's fast, it shows it has terrible body roll and traction. For this, I will quote one of my friends:

I did that with the 1886 Benz 3wheeler. It was a great fun: reached 90-95km/h on the downhill section. That's what I call extreme sport! The replay looked very cool! :)
