3D CG Models Anyone?

Anybody build any 3D computer models for fun?

I used to build 1/24 scale plastics but I glued my fingers together one too many times, so I've switched to the digital variety. This is one of my latest projects, it's made with a program called Solid Edge (V12). Every part of the car is an individual file and the suspension, steering, doors, hood, trunk all work.

It's not quite as cool as a platic model you can hold in your hand, but less clean up after you are done working...

I do loads of models in CG. www.sketchup.com is the prorgam I use. COmbined with Photoshop, to add flavor to it and I've got a rendered image for presentation. I've worked in 3D studio, and FormZ.

This is a model I did up for my wife. In little less than an hour.

I know Neon_Duke does a bit of work in 3D as well.

I,m just envious...I went to college when all the CG you could do was wireframe and the code was input with punchcards
 
Nope, as you'll see, there is sand on the bottom of the tank.

EagleFan, You've got a few years on me, but when I was in high school, and Apple IIe was high tech. ;)

You'd be amazed at what we design into schools nowadays.

I haven't quite gotten as far as a car but I do 3-d work on a variety of programs I've had to learn myself for my Industrial design major. There's a link in my sig, click on "Designer".

I do, using the same program AO uses. Here's one I did a few months ago.

Yup I use 3DS Max though with my stuff. But I haven't really felt compled to sit down and play with it for a while.
 
I dabbled in Milkshape for a while, as well as POV-Ray and Amabilis. I wish I had more time to commit to learning how to become a better modeller, because it is something I am very interested in.
 
Eddie, was that done with AutoCAD? just curious, as it the line edging kinda gives it that appearance. If not, what program did you do it in?

hmmm that looks just like Autodesk Inventor. You ever use that?
 
I used to do animation stuff a few years back but a lack of time and several different things got me out of the loop for too long to be able to get back into it. I might spend a bit of time this summer relearning 3d studio or something.

My buddy made this for a project in Maya I think... or was it 3D Studio? Either way, it's pretty cool:

Here's a stand design I just worked up for my MOMO wheel and pedals.

This is meant to sit directly in front of my gaming chair with those rear legs just in between the front legs of the chair. The thick bar under the wheel deck will be where the clamps go - they don't seem to tighten down on anything less than about 1/2" thick. I also noticed a brass threaded insert near the nose of the wheel. If there is a separate clamp that screws in there, the wheel deck is held short of that hole so I can use that too. The pedals just sit and are held in place by that little lip.

I ended up using a 15 degree rake for both wheel deck and pedal deck. The wheel should probably be steeper so the wheel itself is more upright, but making them on the same slope simplifies construction quite a bit.

I'm going to have my nephew weld this up out of 1/8" or 3/16" steel plate and 1" thinwall tubing. I may also price having it fabricated out of aluminum, but I don't expect that will be too cheap.

Comments are welcome since it only costs time to change things at this point!
 
Nice Duke! I wanna learn this stuff but I guess its kinda too late now since GT4 is about to be released and I wont have time for anything else! :lol:

I like the stand Neon_Duke! I need to build somthing to mount my momo wheel on too.
