I was going to post this in the General Questions thread but it appears to be closed.

And before I start, I do understand the stupidity of the stunt I'm about to talk about attempting.

So there's this place near where I live called Morrison Springs. It's a really good place for swimming. And at the springs there is this tree with a branch 40 feet up that you can climb to and jump out of. I want to do a back flip out of it. Yes, I understand how incredibly dangerous and stupid it is.

But my question is, in the event of me over-rotating the flip and doing a back flop as some call it, would that be enough of a force to knock me unconscious? Or would it most likely just sting like a mother :censored:er?

And yes I understand that the type of flip I would want to use is the layout and NEVER the tuck.

I'm guessing it could break a few ribs and possible fracture a few vertebrate, there would also be a chance of paralysis . That of course is assuming you don't drown.

Edit: If you wan't an example of what a 40 foot fall would look like search for Jake Brown on Youtube, his fall was about 40 feet and he was lucky to only break his legs. I won't post the video though as it is kind of graphic.

Well the 40 feet is just an estimate. Chances are it's a few feet shorter. But I probably wouldn't drown because my friends would be close by in the event that I did fail epically.

Have you given any thought to what would happen in the event of internal damage/collapsing?

You would need instant medical attention, which I'm guessing wouldn't be there.

If you look at an Olympic high dive (about 33 feet), it takes years just to learn how to do a front flip properly from that height. And even than they have failsafes in place with the pool side medical staff.

Sorry but some amateur stunt isn't worth risking your future. Especially a spring with (I'm assuming) no nearbye medical facilities in case something serious were to happen.

Also, one thing I've learned in high school is that the kids there don't know how to properly handle emergency situations(just look at the amount of teens that could be saved if someone would have just taken their drunk friend to the hospital instead of the corner).

Don't. Do. It.

Seriously, a poorly executed dive from that height could seriously injure or kill you, especially something like a backflip where you would have very little control of how you enter the water. The potential for serious cervical/spinal damage is very high.

Even if you don't do any bone or nerve damage, you've got an excellent chance of blowing out an eardrum if your head hits the water sideways.

Or, at the very least, you should get someone to film it so you can get some money from your equivalent of You've Been Framed which will pay some of your medical costs...
