458 TT Sacrilege or Awesome?

I found an article where Hennessey has twin turbocharged a 458 Spider

Sure it has more power, and naturally a faster 0-60 time, but I'm not so sure its a good thing.

Would you prefer the turbo'd version? Say there were both versions of the Spider available to you for a full day, and you could only pick one, which would you choose?

Amazingly, if Ferrari had continued with turbocharging, we might be seeing this engine in the current F12, considering its virtually identical power output, just an interesting what if scenario...
 
I'd have the normal one. That's how Ferrari engineered it to be. More power, to me, is not always better.
 
The 458 is nice as an N/A, forced induction seems wrong on a Ferrari.
Apart from the F40, because that was the "thing to do" in the 80's.
 
I am cool with it I am not a fan of Hennessey tho. If it was a URG car it would be better. Forced indcution is pretty much the only ticket up here at high altitude for street cars. I cannot recall a fast street car here that doesnt have a turbo, s/c or spray.

I think it's awesome, if I had the funds I would definitely buy one but I'd rather have the car built/modified by Dallas Performance, UGR, or AMS.

I agree. I think it depends more on the circumstances though and what your intended use of the car will be.
 
Underground Racing did the Regular 458 :3.






I have no issue with it, I somewhat like it.

But if i would TT a Ferrari on Lamborghini i would let UGR do it :).
 
Sacrilege assumes that any mass-produced (meaning: there's more than one in existence) automobile can truly be considered sacred.

If a turbo system is done well, it can be good. But then that necessitates working on the car's handling balance to suit the power.

For Example the TTG 1,500AWHP There basically only meant for straight lines.

But then again, because of very obvious reasons that I shouldn't have to explain I wouldn't buy a 458 in the first place.
 
I like it, if I had a choice I would still take a standard one myself. I don't have a problem with people modding cars like this, there's plenty standard ones to choose from if you're not into it.

I would lower one and change the wheels if I ever had one, as I dislike Ferrari standard wheels.
 
I hate how people put Ferrari on some pedestal as if they can only do justice to working on these cars, there are certified Ferrari technicians that don't work in Maranello or the service dept. at Ferrari dealerships across the world.

I guess that is crazy to think that though :dunce:
 
Ferrari's still churning them out at 4 or 5 a day, so it's not like they're some rare precious thing that must be preserved. If someone's not on the list for a LaFerrari, but they must have a more powerful mid-engined Ferrari, then why not? - even if it will probably ruin it.
