I may end up doing a comparisment test to find out SA best offroader. (any sugestions)

Ive driven a few 4x4 and well ive found suprises and ive found let downs.

Suprises:
Sadler, yes that redneck pickup that looks like a bobcat, its 4x4 and its goes up big hills, apart from low groud clearance and not much suspension travel this is a suprisingly good offroader.

Let down:
the Yosemite is a big let down, such a nice truck but only 2x4 :(. The landstalker is also bad, crap suspension means 4 tires are hardly ever on the ground at once, thus giving bad off road performance and nearly always flips. Same can be said for the mesa. Bobcat is also bad, it just lacks power and doesnt have much of anything.

Brilliant offroaders:
Rancher with NOS and Hydros
Huntley with NOS and Hydros
Patriot
Sandking with Hydros
Sadler

Not the best
Landstalker
Mesa
Bobcat
Yosimite (2x4)

Id Say the Sandking with Hydros is definetly a contender for SA best offroader title.

Id like to hold a comparisment test, but im not sure of the places to test and what and how to test, and what critera is tested.

Should vehicles be tested with NOS and hydrolics if they can be fitted as this makes a big difference to 4x4 as it gives way more suspension and power, though not all vehicles can be fitted.

finally, what are your findings on SA offroaders, share your cliffhanging experiences, opinons and thoughts.

The Buffalo, and the Sultan I believe, is 4 wheel drive. It's an awesome car to 'off-road' with hydraulics, but I haven't tried with NOS. I can't remember if the Flash is 4 wheel drive, or if it's front wheel.

I was pleasantly suprised by the rancher and the police rancher in both on and off road ability, they are both good but the police rancher is one of my fav cars in SA.

The Sandking, even without hydraulics, I think is the best off-road performer. Goes like a mother on the black stuff too.

yes the Sandking is the pawnoz of 4x4. The dune is good but its quite big and heavy :(. It still goes up hills and goes offroad good though.

Liquid Li0n
The huntley (Range Rover clone) it awesome if you mod it!
I agree, nothing beats it. Or is that just because i happen to like Landrovers?

Gnome: the Flash is FWD and the Buffalo is RWD
Where are you doing your testing Small_Fryz? Most of the offroading I've done in 4 wheeled vehicles has been desert runs. While doing the drug interception missions in SF I always used bikes, which is why I've found the best off roader is the NRG-500 :scared: It weighs next to nothing, is powerfull, and doesn't loose traction easily.
Actually, the only bikes that aren't any good offroad (I've found) are the Wayfairer and Freeway (to much torque).
Things to try: BF Injection, quad bike, Semi trucks (They're 4wd, it's just the rear 4  ), Turismo (only other 4wd car I can think of)

Slightly off topic: While everyone is trying out the Dune, do all your headlights point backwards as well?

well i will test the cars once i found a suitable spot, any ideas guys?

Yeah, I noticed that also. It must've been a modeling s.n.a.f.u.

Small_Fryz, why don't you try doing different backroad sections to test the cars in more than one category? You could even use something like a points system too.

There is one dirt road that goes north from The Truth's farm, that gets steep and it's sort of banked to the center, that might test which 4WD is the most top heavy while negotiating turns. Of course that would mean you'd have to drive all the cars the same way.
If you want to test something like turn response you could try going up Mount Chiliad, maybe not go all the way up, but at least up through the really twisty parts.
Or just do a general test using the the 'Bandito Country' trail, going both ways. Lots of turns to negotiate, plus there's some places to get some speed, and even a couple watersplashes. :D Though they would purely be for entertainment purposes.

Personally, I think one of the most challenging backroads is one just west of "The Farm" on the map, that one really gets steep and it's narrow too. Pretty demanding.

thanks for that, i will see what i can do. There are also some rock piles in doughty construction yard thats tests out supsension travel and groud clerance.

I will get to work comparing them, but im not sure how long its gonna take. I will use a point system i think.

Testing grounds:
-Bone County in general
-The north and east edges of the LV island. Comes with an unfortunatly large chance of dropping in the ocean though.
-Chiliad: Unfortunatly, the really good bits are near the top.
-San Fierro: Don't let all that asphalt destract you, there's lots of hills and many good geometric shapes to test articulation on.

well i was driving the dune and i must say, its the best offroader in the game. Lots of power, and gets up big hills, heaps of ground clearence and suspension. kudos to the dune  👍

I'm not sure whether you are including sports cars with hydrolics, but i did find that cars such as the bullet are great off road, but not great for hills! :(

well, sport cars with hydros are good, but they arnt as good as a Rancher with hydros or a Sandking, and they definetly arnt as good as a Dune (has anybody got a Dune with hydros??). Sport cars with hydros (Sultan) are quite capable and beat most offroaders.

I'm just about to try a dune with hydros :)

yeah, the sandking cant be tuned either, but sometimes its spawned with hydros. Im thinking this may happen to the Dune as well as the suspension setup is the same

I'm not sure, I've driven the Dune more than a couple times and I don't think it spawns with hydros. It is a truck after all.
I'd say the Sandking and the Rancher are the biggest vehicles in the game that support hydraulics, and just barely at that.

the sandking spaws with hydraulics sometimes??

in anycase, yes, the rancher with hydraulics is very good - i like takign the Landstalker offroading, because its not that good! lol

A) Surely this must be the best
B) Where the heck do I get this beast?

A) Sure it's a good vehicle, but not the best. Once it tips over, it's pretty hard to turn it back on it's wheels.

B) It's a prize from the Las Venturas Arena. There's two races there, the other prize is a BF Injection and I don't remember what day rewards the Dune.

the dune is the best off roader i think. Takes a lot to tip it and so much torque and suspension travel.

With some AR codes for super nos, im betting it will climb up some insane hills.

I've gotten the monster and the dumpler up and off Mount Chiliad.

Both of them lived to tell about it. :scared:

The Dune is awesome. Sheer pwnzorness, and it will batter its way through anything.

The FBI Rancher is a fantastic off roader, if you can get it.

The boring coloured one of the American flag one?
