i know they are doing their best to make every car look as in high detail as possible but i'd expect with the time this game took they would have at least double that. The standard cars look so out of place, and it's the livery on some of them that look so pixelated. I hope in future updates they convert some standard to premiums so the game can do the cars justice.

Just a simple texture update for the standards would go a long way... Even without touching a single polygon.

A PD apologist will be with you shortly. You will hear them say, "The PS3's hardware just cannot take all the information. It took them 6 months to develop a premium you know? But things will be better on the PS4!!!"

What will probably happen? PD will create the 100 premiums on the PS4 to such a high degree that the PS4's hardware won't be able to take it then. But hey, there will be 1100 standards and old premiums to make up the numbers with an upgraded Autumn Ring to race on !!! 💡

They should have focused on making the standard cars into premium cars instead of spending all that time on modeling the interiors. Interior view is useless. Or even just make the standards look a LITTLE better, and add the option to change the damn wheels.

Whatever... they SHOULD have done a lot of other things...

Now I know were all entitled to our own opinions, but just give them a little bit of a break. Yea some standard cars look a little rubbish with the textures and stuff but they will update something eventually (look what 1.06 brought us). This is a driving simulator, so I don't care what my standard car looks like. Not saying that I don't want a nice car to race in but seriously 6 months to model 1 car, that's dedication. PD just want what's best for you guys so give them a little time and they could sort it out. Don't want to start an argument, just saying that's all.:)

Thanks for reading.

brad.

1) The interiors aren't useless. Several players use them. Besides, interiors are standard for all major racing games, so lacking them would mean being inferior to other racing games like Forza and even Need for Speed. There's really no excuse for lacking cockpits today, and to do so would be sub-standard.

2) Turn 10 managed to churn out at least 400 Premium models for FM3, and every single one of those had interiors. It took them only two years to do this. None of those 400+ cars are recycled FM2 car models, but rather ever single FM3 model is a newer, higher-polygon model with far more polygons than any of the FM2 models, so the GTFDL can't even argue that they just recycled the old FM2 models.

If we jump back in time to the end of 2009 when FM3 was released, if FM3 had a bunch of car models that were identical to GT5's Standard models, would you be perfectly happy with them or would you criticize FM3 for them?

Turn 10 has over twice the amount of staff as PD and out-sourced a lot of the modelling work.

facepalm :banghead::banghead::banghead:
If Kaz isn't making excuses or saying vague things in japanese, his legions are defending him by belittling other developers' efforts. So Turn 10 outsourced their modeling work and PD did it in house? Does PD deserve an award?

Cockpit views are useless? GT5 ain´t no more "just" a racing game. If you want the utmost realism, you will always stick to the cockpit view. Of course, for people who do not drive those cars with all assists off, that wouldn´t be an issue..

OMG!!! Turn 10 duped teh car-modellers!! Teh'yre cheat0rz!
PD are for realz because their staff do genuine grinding! Not that lazy outsourcing!!!

Indeed. Some of the excuses for GT5's poor outcome are getting outright silly. 👍

It really awful when those standard mix up with the premuim in a race. looks terible and downgrade the so so so long waited GT5. While we waiting, they talk about perfection and give us high hope. And when it finally came, it is indeed the best driving simulation on the market. But far from perfect!

Some people are quite ridiculous with this topic. They think, "Oh, six years and this is all they could come up with?!" Well, what did they come up with? Amazing premium cars, amazing tracks, amazing graphics, and even better physics; the best on the market for this genre.

Comparing Forza to GT is useless. Forza is on the 360. The technological advancement from the Xbox to the Xbox 360 isn't that significant. Let's look at Final Fantasy XIII, the graphics look breathtaking on the PS3, but on the 360, screen-tearing is an issue and the graphics even had to be downplayed for the 360 to process it correctly.

If it took PD to make GT 5 in six years and it was on the same console, then you all would have a proper reason to complain. But this took them six years to make on the PS3. That's a whole new system. Just look at the size of the PS2 and compare it to the first-gen PS3's. The PS3 is absolutely enormous and the technology far surpasses the 360.

Not only did they have to make ideas, scrap those ideas, see what ideas worked, see what standard cars worked, etc.etc.etc. but they had to do so much more. And with all that time they took, they would be losing more and more profit.

tl;dr - Don't be so butt-hurt by the number of premium cars. Any person with a reasonable sense of mind would realize that they took the correct time needed for this.

Strangely, I have no eye for detail in video games, and can't see much of a difference except tinted windows and maybe some blurry decals. :)

The only difference is the detail on the premiums when you look closely in photo travel, the lenses on the lights even have the manufacture stamp on them and the screws holding them in are rendered perfectly. It's a bit ott imo as most people don't notice or appreciate the amount of work that has gone into it and neither do I when I'm racing in the game.

People saying that Forza has 400 premiums are talking bs tbh as they are not even close to the detail of GT5's premiums although Forzas level of detail is enough for GT5 imo but like I said about GT5's they are far more detailed and I wouldn't like to guess how long it took to make each one.

So yeah, if they took less time on the premiums and made them just right then GT5 would have been a far better game, I also think it's bs when people say that the PS3 can't handle the detail in the game it seems fine to me, they are just making excuses really.

And was making 200 premiums the only thing they had to do in those 5 years? Does GT5 solely exist of those 200 premium cars?

I find Standard Cars more enjoyable than Premium Cars :3, but you're right, they probably could have made more Premium cars.

I only drive in cockpit mode so sadly and I mean sadly I have no need for the standard cars, I like so many others out there do hope that in time a lot of these standard car will be transformed into premiums

Having a game that is heavily Sim based and driving standard cars in 3 person mode seem a bit ( defeat the object ) I would of though that seeing as most feel this is a "driving simulator game" but then give you only 20% of the cars to Sim drive is a cop out and make a bit of a mockery out of the game and what it meant to represent , but that said I do like the game .

Yes i agree that some of the standard cars do like terrible! The wheel arches and the some of the liveries do look pixelated! And i would rather have a bunch of new cars rather than updating some of the standard models to a premium models!

I used to be narrow minded about the premium-standard issue.

When I got the game, I was selling any standard car I could sell that I won, just because they had no cockpit.

So I later decided to change to 3rd person view (still use cockpit here and there), and got a whole new view on standards.

Now I have over 150 standards in my garage, and I'm still buying anything that pleases my eye or looks like a fun car to tune/drive. I mainly hate the fact that you can't bring them into photomode. You can't zoom in on them, so I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed in photomode.

Turn 10 has over twice the amount of staff as PD and out-sourced a lot of the modelling work.

And.....? Sounds like PD should get more people in their office or outsource some of the work. Don't try the "less mistakes" route either, as GT5 has just as many modeling errors (per car) as Forza.

I see people are still pushing the myth that GT5 is the only thing PD have worked on for the last 5 years as strongly as ever huh.

No one put a gun to Yamauchi's head and told him to work on GT PSP and 3D and half hearted damage. If he didn't feel up to the task, he should have had the courtesy to stand down.

But no, I gotta go smell the BBQ at Nordschleife !!11!!!

Premiums are too detailed.

Honestly, the ONLY time you can see the true quality of a premium model is in photo mode, with magnification set to X2.

There really is no point in having cars this detailed. I didn't buy the game to take pictures of the beautiful premium models, I want to see them while I'm racing them!

If PD would've dropped the bar a notch we could've seen 300+ premium cars, but I guess photo mode is more important than say, I don't know, racing cars.
