i take mine out all the time...ist ok to take it otu when not saving, but the thing was he went and loaded it up to a freinds hosue and he probably switched cars to show it off and it autosaved and then it autosaved bakc over when he got back to his place and it only knew he had 1 car, the clk

turn off of autosave, and never remove the memory card while the ps2 is on. that is what i have always done, and i have never had any problems with my 10$ memory card :)
 
yeah, i have some sympathy for you, but not much. There's a reason they tell you not to:

1. Shut off the PS2 while saving
2. Remove memory card while PS2 is on

And you found out. The hard, hard, hard, HARD, hard way.

But hey, at least you know what you need to beat all the races to get back to 50%. BONUS!
 
and backup in the PS2's memory card manager (NOT BY SAVING TO ANOTHER MEMORY CARD FROM WITHIN GT4!!!) on at least a weekly basis.

GT4 obviously breaks some serious rules with how it writes to the video hardware (as evidenced by the flickering and interlace errors) as well as the memory card. It's not writing that 1.5MB of data every time but just poking new changes into the 1.5MB file. Very unusual and few if any other PS2 games operate this way.
 
Thanks for all the, er...kind words. Im actually having fun re-living GT4 all over.

Is it just me, or do the prize cars suck? I dont like any of them. (Except in the Endurance races). I mean, a DMC Delorean for completing the first 10 missions....whats up with that? They should have at least modeled MJ Fox and the doc in the cockpit....If you want to make it look even more ridiculous, put a silver wing and Bridgestone #006 wheels on it. hahahahaha...

And where do I win the old Beetle?

Thanks for the wakeup call. I had intended on buying a second card specifically for GT4 data only, but had forgotten about it once the game came out. I was having too much fun playing. I'm going to be picking one up this weekend and backup my info.

While I did obtain all the licenses and missions myself, and enjoyed every minute of it, I'm certainly NOT anxious to have to go back and do them all again! :lol:
 
When I tried to save onto a memory with no gt4 save on, it warned me that I'd lose everything, so I didn't. Im using the same memory card since I started and haven't removed it unless my PS2 is off so you just have to be careful.

Make a backup copy of your GT4 save on a second memory card from the PS2 browser, NOT from the game itself. It's a good idea, especially if you can't keep yourself from futzing around and trying to 'trick' the game. My memory card never comes out so I don't suspect I'll have any problem, but I'll be making a backup just in case... :nervous:
 
Why in GOD SAKE did you put your memory card out. Nothing can go wrong with having the card still in.

Okay, so I have no life and I have been playing GT4 pretty much non-stop since it came out. Im in college and I have skipped a few classes each week to play the game as much as possible. Well, last week I had spring break and I was right at 25%, so I vowed to get to 50% before coming back to school. Sometime last week, I was doing the 24h Nurburgring race with the CLK-GTR on B-Spec mode, and I decided to let it run its course (no pun intended) and go shoot pool with a friend. I pulled the memory card out while the race was going, so when I got to my friends house I could show off my 70+ cars. (He is only at 15% - I like to rub it in). When I came home later that night, put the memory card in and let the race finish, I ran into a problem. When I went to save the game it told me that I had inserted a memory card with the wrong data and would I prefer to over write it. I thought, sure, why not? ....bad idea. After over writing my old save file, I went to the garage to find that I only had 1 car (The CLK-GTR) Noooooooooooooooooo - all my cars were gone. But I thought, okay...dont freak out...you still have 2 million dollars and a CLK-GTR, no big deal....I continued on. Well, I came back to school sunday, hooked up my PS2, loaded the the game and guess what?! My save data was corrupted. Noooooooooooooo....even worse. :yuck: :sick: :nervous: So I had to start all over. I had every liscence, 1/2 the missions done, completed Beginner, Professional, Japanese, American and European events. I had 4 million dollars. I was 1/2 way through the endurance races. I was about 1/2 way through the game, and I had to start over. So, here I am....3% through the game. A, B, and IB licences....I just slept my way through the Lightweight races. $96,000.....162 A-Spec points....10 cars.....and I still love it. :sly:

no not asking for it, i have a back up on a noteh rmem card i always keep up to date, and i dont take it out and play on other ps2's i just take it out sometimes if i buy a car and try it or something...just to mess around with, but i dont put it back in if i like the car cuz my fiel will go poof

Tape your memory card to the PS2! that way it will never corrupt......

do the second special conditions races. its easy and you get a 260k car. that will get your cars back
 
My friend's game save got corrupted but fortunately he had a backup. He did not remove the memory card from the system while it was on.

Yeah, I know...but I didnt think it would matter.....I didnt know that I would loose all my garage when I overwrote the file. Which brings me to another topic...the manual included in the US version SUCKS. Its horrible...not that I need it or anything, but it doesnt even list certain stuff (Like the wing shop)....I mean, wheres that 200 page booklet the Japanese got?!?!?!? Not to mention the cooler CD and the slipcover....the SLIPCOVER!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:

Nah, for real tho...I dont care....

You're damn right. The manual is a joke. It's the worst manual I've ever got with a PS2 game. I think I thru mine away. :irked:

I feel your pain. I don't know what I'd do if I lost my garage :grumpy: :banghead: :mad: (146 cars and counting). I jump out of my 1st story window that's for sure :rolleyes:

thats where teh second memory card comes into play...eitehr i can pull it out and let teh 2nd mem card in sometimes it works...or just play on teh second before i actually use teh 1st...but i havent done that for awhile
 
You can also back up memory card data to the hard drive from the ps2 browser, If you have one.
 
Bah, situations like that, just load up a downloaded save game with all the licenses and a billion credits. Then re-run your races for maximum a-spec points.

The challenge will remain but the dick-work will be eliminated as you won't have to b-spec for cash nor screw around on the license tests for that .250 second over and over again..
 
Something similar happened to my buddy on GT3 his wife got mad with him once, and while he was at work she threw the memory card in the toilet.... :nervous:
 
Dude, that sucks! I've missed a few classes myself because of this game, and I could imagine how weak that would be. Here's a similar story: I got Phantasy Star Online when it came out on Dreamcast. I had put in over 130 hours and had a really awesome character. Then I got that disc that they came out with for Dreamcast that let you play GT2 on it. It formatted my memory card in order to save the GT2 data. All my Phantasy Star data was lost. I was crushed. Such is the life of a video game junkie.

That totally sucks. That's a big flaw imo. Other games don't need the mem card in while actually playing them so why shoulg gt4? Pants! My PS2 would've been out the window, games and all (I did it with the xbox). Yes I'm not the most patient man on Earth but that would've sent me over the edge. Well done for keeping so calm about it. My mate has the PAL version and he got 'corrupted' data and had to start over yet he claims that he didn't even touch the memory card. Kinda worrying as I'm quite far into the game as well. All golds in Licence's (nearly drove me insane :nervous: ) and have finished beginner & proffesional leagues and have about 3 mil in the bank.
