Based on the original format. I ran several cars. If you count the fact that I finally went back and put Sport Tires (T1's) on every car. I probably won't be as fast as I would with the T2's. Though I believe that including the cost of the tires in pretty much equalized my cars with the mods that
Duke suggested.
I was also hampered by my own short attention span.

I cannot stand to run more than about three or four laps at Complex String at any one time. So none of the cars named below got more than 4 laps in.
I Ran only 1/4 mile, and The String.
I tried 7 cars:
Mitsubishi EVO 6 (RS) it's the lightest of the EVO's but I think the EVO 7 is a little quicker. It also requires a Full race tranny for Complex String due to the short gearing for acceleration. It is also a bit of a handful for this track with the 4WD. Getting it to kick it's butt around was not nearly as easy as in the cars listed below. It went exactly where it was pointed. On a track as tight as the String, a little rear "looseness" can be a good thing.
It managed
13.289 in the quarter, and
5'08.083 around the String.
Nissan S15: It has the HP edge of all the Silvia's. However it was slowest in all my testing. I may have to go back and try the 1.8L S13. It's cheaper by 7g's, and it weighs less.
The S15 pulled
14.369 in the quarter, and
5'11.276 at the String.
Toyota MR-S This little car was quite a suprise as it only had about 200 HP when I was finished with it. It felt awsome on the String. The low polar moment of being MR configured, and it's diminuitive size made it a joy to throw around on Complex String.
It was good for
13.908 in the quarter and
5'13.206 at the String.
Toyota MR2-GT-s Also alot of fun to drive. Not too much oversteer, quite a bit faster than I expected.
13.109 in the 400m and
5'12.751.
Chevy Camaro Z-28 and SS Both of these cars are very formidable. I really wish they had a semi-race tranny available for them as I would have had 5,000 extra to add power. The SS was the standout of the two. Both were quite smooth once I had played with the settings a bit. Though I was plagued with oversteer in the "boxes" and understeer in the "loops".

Z-28 with
13.320 and 5'10.839
SS with
13.289 and 5'05.869
Ford Mustang SVT Cobra RLet's just say that this car with it's outdated chassis, and considerable weight, was quite a suprise.

On all the other cars I opted for the "$250 HP upgrade" of an oil change. Since I know the 'Stang actually loses HP with an Oil change, I skipped it. Mods included Sport Tires ($6,000), Semi-Race tranny ($5,700), Sport Suspension (3,200), Muffler/Air cleaner ($2,900), Wt Redux 1($1,000). For a grand total just $50 short of $50,000. This was my second attempt. I went back and started over from "scratch". This pony handled much better than I expected, ran just fine with the semi-race tranny. It topped out at a tiche over 150 on the long front straight. It also stayed "planted" despite having a live rear axle. With IRS, This car would be even faster.
It pulled, in this configuration,
13.284, and 5'01.692..
I saw some places to whittle this down, but reffering back to my attention span...
I ran the 5'01 on my second lap. The funny thing is that I was
14 seconds quicker than with the first set-up for this car, with
14 less HP.
