6 car limit hurts GT4- forza's key to success?

So what!! GT4 is GT4. Forza is and never will be GT4. It's like comparing a honda civic to a Z06 Vette. Sorry, but I really do put Forza that low. But, what does the Civic have over the Vette?? Gas Milage. In the video game world that's those 2 extra cars on the tracks. Still want a Vette over that Civic??? I thought so....

When it comes to consoles there will be lag problems even with gt4, I would not imagine playing with 16 cars in forza.

Why? Why do you think consoles would get more lag than a PC? Lag is not caused by the hardware a program is running on, its caused by the time it takes for a message to get from one point on the earth to another and sometimes network traffic. The internet has no idea weather the signal is coming from a console or a monkey and does not care, it carries it just the same.

Just a general note to all here because I am sick of hearing it (on xbox live mainly)...

LAG IS NOT RELATED TO BANDWIDTH. All the time I get americans coming into a room in PGR2 and lagging badly. They tell me it must be my ****ty connection because they have huge bandwidth and can download 10 hard disks per second. They can't seem to figure out that no matter how much bandwidth you have, you can't drag america closer to Australia. Idiots.

Anyway back on topic, 6 cars is a little limited but its fine. Xbox live racers are quite fun with small packs. PGR2 only supports 8, but most of the time the room is not full so its only 4-6 racers anyway. Its still really fun.

I haven't seen anyone here say that they're not getting GT4. I think almost everyone is gonna get GT4 and if they have an Xbox, probably Forza too.

also about the lag, i guess you have never played PGR2, there normally is very little lag if at all.

Agreed. Also there is almost never lag on Hardware: Online Arena on PS2 when there is 16 players. In fact I can only think of a couple of times I have seen lag on the PS2, and those times it was due to people doing stupid things like downloading porn while trying to play on ADSL.

it all depends on bandwdith, the ditance between you, the server, and the other players.
I'm not too worried. next year Belgium is getting vdsl, witch is 5Mbit up, 16Mbit down. That means if i host a game for for belgians only we could easily have 50 cars without any lag whatsoever. Things are only gonna get better as more and more people get monster connections.
That said, ive hosted 8 player races on xbox with my limited 196kbs upload, witch were virtually lag free

you dont have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that with only 6 cars on track at a time it will be one of if not THE major failing point of gt4. yes i know there is nothing that can be done about it but still... we all want gt4 to be fantastic (yes.. probably even code_kev!) but now with online racing being a focus point i can see people becoming annoyed by the limit pretty quickly and looking for alternatives. personally i would rather play a game with less actual cars but with a better online experience due to 15+ cars on track at once. it adds a HUGE amount to the feel of the race, and possibly more than variety of cars.

(sorry i keep referring to it but...) Live for speed shows this off well, even a race with one type of car can be hugely entertaining, tweaking it to perfection and driving with a large number of opponents = greater feeling of achivement for doing well and a much more action packed race.

so in a conclusion sort of way - if forza can sort out force feedback, has a good physics system, and allows a sygnificantly larger field of cars than GT4 i think it will at least hold its own! ((reffers to online play only, i find 6 cars acceptable offline)

:sly: You're goddamn motha****in' right that GT4 will be able the hold it's own. Wrong on all the other crap, though. WHY wrong. 'Cause Forza's only running at roughly 30 fps, and, honestly, that IS noticable, especially when taking a closer look. This may not seem like a big deal, but trust me, it's BIG. When you've got 16 buddies racing against each other online with a framerate of 30 fps, the game can suddenly start looking like some serious ****. No doubt about it. It starts the stick out like a sore thumb, so I hope that the Forza team will bump up the framerate (and if they can't, then it's gonna hurt them a lot). Comparing the two, GT4 will look a lot prettier online with just the moderately sized 6 car field running at a full 60 fps all the time, and Forza could end up looking really choppy with that huge 16 car field and a framerate of roughly 30 fps. This I can (almost) guarantee.!!:sly:

you have no ****ing clue do you? do you think framerate is related to the number of cars on track and the more there is the "choppier" it gets (whilest still being 30fps funnily enough)

perhaps you could tell me what framerate a dvd movie is played at? and wether you sit there and ***** and moan about that?

funny post. ill keep a copy of that for a project im thinking of starting soon

Actually it is. You are thinking of the refresh rate. Please include your own post in your project too.
