Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I installed the 7 gigs of info on my PS3 and yet tracks still take the same amount of time to load. So what's the point of this dl again?

If you have an SSD, it makes a HUGE difference. No load time at all on cars in the garage and track load times are at least halved.

I played my copy on a friends PS3 to show him the game recently but obviously didn't do the install onto his system......trust me.....the install makes a BIG difference.
Maybe not as noticable in loading tracks but try browsing through your garage or the dealerships without installing and the difference is stunning.

Can I see somewhere if I have installed all?

Yeah, you can check that and do the install from the game options, bottom row under utilities. You probably have, the game gets annoying and keeps begging you to do it unless you go into there anyway and disable the warning.

An SSD is the best thing I ever did. you have to get the right one though as it has to support garbage collection on it's own (windows usually does it) and only a couple do it. But now, when I use my other ps3 with regular drive.....it's painful.

For you guys with SSDs, which one did you get? Just out of interest, as I'm not sure whether I can justify it at the moment to buy one myself. :(

People get too worried about TRIM. Unless you're doing insane amounts of writing to the drive, you'll never have a problem.

I went with http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Intel%26%23174%3B+-+X25M+Mainstream+Solid+State+80GB+Internal+Serial+ATA+Hard+Drive+for+Laptops+-+Silver/1287619.p?id=1218247186230&skuId=1287619&st=intel%20ssd&cp=1&lp=4 and would never look back. I don't use it for a media server, so 80GB was more than enough and the performance on the Intels are top notch. They do offer a 120GB and 160GB option for around linearly more money. I wouldn't go with the 40GB unless you literally do nothing but GT5 and never plan on doing anything else.

It doesn't say it, but it has it's own garbage collection system.....I loooked into it pretty thoroughly before buying one. It's one of the only ones that does it, which is important since you won't have windows to support trim. I've seen speed comparisons done on youtube of solid state vs spinning drive speed and they show a small difference. The difference in mine however is huge. I've not timed it, but it "feels" twice as fast. Like I said, the old one is painful now.

Can I access these files? And how or where (USB or on the PS3 itself)? Someone said to delete a 40 kb file to get my stealths back to stock (stupid engine stage 3)...
