That'll be the new Zonda R then...

From Autocar
"Inspired by Group C racers such as the Porsche 917 and Jaguar XJR9, the Pagani Zonda R’s design is unencumbered by any requirement for the car to be road-legal or homologated for racing competition; “It was born out of pure creativity,” said Horatio Pagani, owner of Italy’s only remaining independent supercar maker.

The Pagani Zonda R’s all-new body and chassis are made from carbonfibre, aircraft aluminium, titanium and magnesium.

Powering the car is a development of the Mercedes 6.0-litre racing engine that powered the late-1990s CLK GTR racer. The mid-mounted narrow-angle V12 produces 739bhp at 7500rpm and 524lb ft of torque.

The Zonda R weighs just 1070kg, giving it a Bugatti Veyron-beating power-to-weight ratio of more than 700bhp per tonne. Pagani claims that the Zonda R is capable of 0-62mph in just 3.0sec and a 233mph maximum speed. It should also be capable of significantly improving on the Zonda F’s 7min 28sec record lap of the Nurburgring.

The Zonda R’s rear wing is much larger than the Zonda F’s and is accompanied by a large rear diffuser and a front splitter. Together they produce 2000kg of downforce at 186mph."

Given what an amazing noise the Zonda F Clubsport made, this one must sound trully biblical.

Wonder if I have a rich, senile old relative I can con out of their fortune.

I wonder if that Zonda will literally fly like the Merc did..

Probably not given it creates twice it's own weight in downforce!!

I'm sure the CLK-DTM made similar or more numbers, but if you get the right amount of air pressures underneath the car, then your thousands of pounds of downforce in the back become thousands of pounds of lift in the front, which is what happened at Le Mans in '99.

The CLR was also helped along by its overall shape, though.

The CLR was never designed correctly.

It created far too less aerodynamics for it's shape, and before the qualifying sessions they had to add extra winglets to the front to keep it on the ground. It wasn't really the shape of the car, but it was the front that was aerodynamically designed wrong, and I assume those bumps in the road these cars were going over at 350 km/h at the time were forgotten as well. At least there was Toyota to show a real design, too bad the reliability of the TS020 cars were not that impressive as the design was.

On the subject now:

I've been looking forward to see the real thing after I saw those 3D models. I was truly menacing, and the looks were astonishing. I've always had a soft spot for the Zonda designs, but this one takes the cake. I can't wait to hear, and see it in action! 👍

I'd call it a pretty race car, and I'm sure the performance will meet up with the good looks. More power to them, fight the Audi powah, RAH RAH!

Only 15. And one is going to be kept by Pagani.

But what an extreme car, both in terms of looks and performance. So this is just a car for private track time that'll probably beast on almost any other car out there?

WISH. IT. COULD. RACE.

That's quite the nice car. too bad It's not legal for most competition.

Just saw this on Pistonheads, what an awesome machine. The colouring is a bit too much for my liking but the styling is just stunning.

It's another one of those 'what's the point' cars (FXX, Caparo T1 etc). Looking at the slicks i presume it's not road legal.

Still looks like the 1st year apprentice got the job for designing the rear end:yuck:

Where did this thing set a 11 minute lap time?

And despite being function over form, I thing it is a gorgeous car. but I may be the only one to think that. And what's up with the tach? That is really weird...
