Everyone kept on about how the 787B handles so good. I just traded for it last night and it's the worst Race Car I've driven so far. It handles similar to the historical cup cars. It has 5 gears, meaning dropping down to second for turns you would like to take in third or higher. And it seems driving aids are a must. Somebody explain to me what I'm missing.

BMW F1 GTR Racecar or Mercedes CLK GTR are much better in my opinion. The Minolta is better as well.

Uh its a common fact that the car has 5 gears and its def your driving ability.
 
I think the hype is probably because it's a premium car. But I'd take the Minolta over it any day just because of the fact it has the 6 speed gear box.
 
I agree its not exactly an X1 in the corners but its great fun an IMO it has the best cockpit view of the game.
 
The 787B is one of the most fun cars in the game. It's not the fastest race car- as you said the Minolta is probably faster for most people on most tracks. But I'd say it's more fun.
 
Everyone has a different driving style, just because people like a certain car doesn't mean you will too. Most of the hype for the 787B is the nostalgia. It's the only Japanese car to win the 24 Hrs of Le Mans. IMO it's ok, I like the post 90s LMS cars better.
 
You said you traded for it.Perhaps the original owner had tuned it in a bad way.Check all the settings and return them to their original and drive the car again.Something must have been changed cause the car is really good.Also install racing softs if you haven't already.
 
it's a great handling car, better than most racecars IMO. The Mazda787B is revered by auto enthusiast because of it's history. But also to me it's just the best "drivers car" compared to the rest, because of it's cockpit view and it's unique sound (sounds 20X more beastly in real life) but the fact that they actually got a HINT of the real life car sound is just awesome. I really enjoy driving this car. The 5speed transmission can has it's pros/cons but it does matter. ALL FOR CHANGING GEARS@10000RPM?!?!? XD

I love my 787B. I have the Stealth one but felt strangely proud when I actually bought the real one... I love that livery, and the sound, but I'd agree (obviously) that 5 gears is a disadvantage. It seems like it's missing a gear, whereas the Chaparrals only have 3 gears but a higher top speed. I guess I should play with the ratio, but whatever, I never actually race in it as there are better alternatives.

I think it's the most fun car in it's class, though, if only just for the sound it makes.
 
The 787B is, and always will be, my favorite car in the GT series. The history behind it, how it looks, how it drives, and best of all how it sounds. Dear god just crank the volume and switch to the 787B, the start up noise is sublime!
 
Simply said: It won Lemans.

The car is not utter crap. You can't expect to be great on a LMP car immediately either. Whatever LMP car you like is under your discretion.
 
I purchased one yesterday, I think It looks and sounds great. You need to be careful with throttle control, if you floor it you will spin. I do not think it is the fastest or the best handling but it is still fun to drive. The 787b is not very forgiving and to drive it to its full potential you must be a good driver.

Many of the other race cars are easier to drive so when switching to the 787b you might think it sucks but in reality you are the one that sucks, not the car.
 
Must be a different 787B to mine!

Have you tried doing five or six laps to get the feel or did you make your decision after 3 turns? :D
 
I got the stealth one as well, and it's a really great car. 850 BHP is enough for me while mine runs like 370 km/h. If you like more speed, go get the Minolta. If you like super fast cornering, get the FGT/X2010. If you like FUN driving with a bit of all these characteristics and a great engine sound behind your back, then get the Mazda.

My 787B Stealth Model is a perfect car with soft racing tires. She's fast, she's accurate, she has a nice engine sound. I'm lvl 27 atm, and there is no ingame car that could be as good as Mazda is
