I just found this old article on Mazda's site about the 10th aniversary of the 787B and the birth of the RX-8. I thought someone would like to see it ...

Yup. [sarcasm]See, 2001 - 10 = 1991, the year it won[/sarcasm]

I haven't really payed much attention until now, how is Mazda doing in LaMans? Are they still running rotary engines, or are they entering at all?

Well - thanks for that

Let's just say I was a bit shocked to realise 10 years had past since they'd won it.

I don't think Mazda have run there for years, certainly not in factory guise - I'm not even sure if they ran in '92.

love the rx7, when i got the money i bought it and finished most of the beginning races with it

mazda rocks

Hey, I just remembered I saw the 787B at the Melbourne motorshow back in '92!

The scary thing with those Group C cars is they're actually quite small - a lot smaller than they look in photos (all those flat surfaces).

Yea, I've seen a BUNCH of photos from the "4th Annual Seven Stock" with people standing around it. The top of the wheel wells come to about mid-thigh and the cockpit is just above their waste. It's low to the ground and just all around tiny. Pocket Rocket. But all those cars are, like you say. Have you seen Indy and Formula 1 cars with people standing around them? Very small as well. The drivers are like horse jockeys, little people.

True - I sat in Alesi's 1990 Tyrrell-Ford (the high nosed car - my favourite GP car) and I've no idea how they drive them. I'm not a big bloke (a tick over 5' 10), but I'm reasonably wide shouldered, and I could hardly turn the wheel, and let's not talk about the pedals!

Still, having seen Mika Hakkinen run past at Adelaide in 1993 we're not exactly dealing with NFL players here...

The 787b is mentioned in the Csaba Csere column in the latest Car and Driver, which I've not read yet.
