The 2012 [Endoftheworld] Model will crank out 750 hp in standard tune and 590 lb-ft of torque. It uses an upgraded version of the 5.4-liter V8 currently found in the GT500. The optional Shelby/Kenne Bell tuning will get buyers 800 hp on pump gasoline.

New York was chosen for the debut because of the history Shelby and the Big Apple show have. The first Shelby car was introduced there in 1962, and another was shown in 1968. The 2006 Shelby Hertz GT-H began its journey in Gotham, as did the 540-hp GT500KR.

Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but representatives from the company promise this Shelby will come in at less than $100,000--for both the donor car and the upgrades. The car will have a limited production run, with cars available to the public starting on May 1.

The 2012 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake includes:

-- Ford Racing handling pack including dynamic adjustable dampers, lowering springs, tuned stabilizer bars and front strut tower brace

-- Optional Shelby/Eibach handling pack

-- Six-speed manual transmission with a 3.73:1 rear-axle ratio and short-throw shifter

-- Borla exhaust system

-- Shelby-designed Alcoa 20-inch wheels

-- Forged Shelby/Baer brakes with six-piston calipers and cross-drilled, vented rotors

-- Front-brake cooling ducts and behind-the-door side scoops

-- Unique fiberglass hood with the signature Shelby design and hood pins

-- Shelby classic Super Snake stripes in either matte black or matte white

-- Super Snake vehicle badges and an embroidered interior

The 2012 Shelby GT350 coupe and convertible will also debut at the New York show. The car will be offered in two new body colors, Race Red and Kona Blue.

Sounds like a very good way to commit suicide. I like it. 👍

Bad ass car !!!

 to Shelby of America.

Now,go tell your insurance agent that you have just purchased an 800hp Shelby Mustang and see how hard he dings your wallet. :ouch:

I dstill spend less and buy a Mustang Shelby GT350. Naturally aspirated, mild 525hp, or a nice 625hp model with the GT350 logos.

In a scale from "Madness" to "Sparta!", this car would be immediately above "mindblowing kickass". In a scale of 1 to 10, 14.

How I feel

(tears of joy)

Seriously, though, this thing sounds pretty bad ass. The actual sound this car will make will be absolutely insane I bet.

Don't like the hood scoopes, but otherwise, this is abso-freaking-lutely awesome.

I can't wait until someone gets their hands on one and run some tests. I want to see how this compares against the less-insane Mustang GT.

don't really like it, looks a bit over the top, bonnet vent/scoop looks hideous! Would take a standard GT350/500 over it any day!

800 hp, I can see the handling of this being the same of JCs review of the Mercedes Brabus SL or the SL 65 Black Series, though the torque output in the Merc's is in the 700+ range and this new 2012 GT500 SS has only 590 pounds of torque, so maybe not.

some notes on the price:
Pricing for the Super Snake package alone starts at $34,245, not including the $48,645 required to acquire a donor GT500 to build from. Play your options right, and you can easily watch that total ring in at just under $100,000 ($97,079, to be exact).

All this and - NO WARRANTY

According to the company, the Super Snake will pack the most horsepower ever from an American muscle car introduced at the show, 800 to be exact. The car is legal in all 50 states and owners will be able to use pump gas. Among the many upgrades used to make this kind of power is a Shelby/Kenne Bell supercharger, which, not surprisingly, voids any remaining powertrain warranty from Ford.

It actually is....These cars are very durable with big power.

He means on the street... I think.

800hp won't be "useable" in that going WOT will send you past every speed limit ever instantly or spin the tires... Both of which are illegal. Doesn't mean the car won't be absolutely awesome to drive with knowing if you wanted to you could stomp everything ever and never needing to prove it.

It'd actually be a perfectly acceptable daily driver as well... It doesn't need a gigantic lumpy cam to make these power levels and will be just as streetable as a V6 Mustang.

Was part of the design goal to make it uglier than the KITT Mustang? If so, they've almost succeeded.

I'm with niky on this one, the 'Stang got me by the lightweight and sober looks. This one looks like it is trying a bit too hard, just like the Camaro....

Which is exactly what I meant.

How many people actually go WOT in cars with even 400Hp? Or spin the tires at the lights?

800Hp isn't going to phase anyone who knows what they're doing. We've got 1,000Whp daily driver Supras here. Owners know their limitations, & the cars are still amazing to ride in.

800Hp is going to be just as useable as 500Hp in the GT500 b/c the cars (newer Mustangs in general) usually have no problem running such power without making it harder to drive on the street.

800 hp is going to be just as usable as 500 hp because even just 300 hp will roast the rear tires if you floor it.

Quite agree. Stupidly powerful sportscars don't make stupid amounts of power all the time. And the ramp up on something like an 800 hp V8 isn't going to be as severe as on a 500 hp 1.6 liter Civic with a mad turbo on it, so it's going to be controllable.
