Should there be a turbo option for the 86 GT

The ugrades are based on real upgrades you could add to the car in real life, not just what Polyphony feels like adding. Not all engines are compatible with turbos.

While it is true that the upgrades are based on realism, it would still be nice to at least have an option to add a turbo. I'm pretty sure that aftermarket turbos will be offered for the 86, in reality, in the very near future. Isn't the boxer engine the same design that's in the Subaru WRX STi? Isn't that a turbo engine?

It has actually said by Subaru that the 2 liter boxer 4 is positioned to low and to far back in the chassis for a turbo to be an option in the foreseeable future.

PD doesnt always base their mods on whats available in RL otherwise you would be able to Turbo the 430, Gallardo, R8, Murcielago, Viper, Ford GT etc.

Not the same motor.

I'm sure that's true about the turbo kits, however the real car has 12.5:1 compression, which is not forced induction friendly. People will need to take apart the motor and replace the factory internals with low compression pistons, and stronger connecting rods.

Also true.

12.5:1 is actually pretty normal for stratified charged engines which would normally be really high for a regular multiport engine, a low boost turbocharger unit should be ok, but yeah for higher boost levels a small drop in compression ratio might be needed.

the car wasnt designed or made for the turbo deal as much as I like my subaru with its turbo. I can appreciate that Subie and toyota wanted to go back to thier roots and just creat a simple sports car. I think the 86 is not about power its about balance and more so about momentum driving and handling if you are wishing for something eles maybe you should wait for Toyta to bring back the Supra.

I think one reason why the 86 GT is a lot of fun for me is because its a momentum car. So instead of relying on horsepower, going fast means keeping the engine right in the power band and using the natural balance of the chassis to keep the speed up through the corners.

What supermelon said!

tracks like suzuka and spa are tons of fun in the 86 because the challenge is to push the limits of cornering at speed. Without the same oomph as a GT-R it relies much more on the input and skill of the driver to keep a nice rhythm going so that you don't have to slow down too much.

Kind of like how in the 3rd initial D book, it talks about how Tak uses drifting to avoid scrubbing a lot of speed through turns-he can't keep up with the GT-R's acceleration so he needs to maintain a high average speed through the turns
