I'm not too sure this goes in here, but if it doesn't someone can move it. Anyways.. I just recently purchased a 1991 Chevy Silverado with a 350 Ci motor. The only thing is.. it has a throttle body.. which i've heard that if you get the right parts, can be pretty darn mean. I was woundering though.. just to change out to a carb.. that would mean I would have to chance the intake, fuel lines and all that, right?! If so.. going to a junk yard for everything exept the intake and carb.. how much would it cost, and would it be worth my time?! I mean.. the trucks kinda doggy and I've been wanting to put a Holly 650 on there with an Performer Intake.. but I'm just stumped as to how much work its going to take and if it will even be worth it. Can I beef up my throttle body just as much as the carb, but with less or more money?! Oh.. and sorry for the long post.

SWEET!!! Something right up my alley!:D

Ok, Don't do the Carb swap! Go to www.summitracing.com and search for "Holley TBI". They sell a 670cfm TBI unit. Also get the matching Intake from Holley. Edelbrock makes a TBI intake also, but I figure the Holley parts work better with eachother. In 91 the computers are probably the same as mine and you can get a JET chip for about 120 bucks. Keep the TBI and all the computer stuff. It's self tuning and more effecient. Is it 4x4? you didn't say it was so i'm guessing no. But if it is, then DEFINATELY keep the TBI. Carbs run into problems when offroading, well, moving on steep and wierd angles and low throttle and such. I have all the parts i listed for my truck, including a PowerAid TB spacer. Just haven't put them on yet. If you can wait, i'll install my parts in the near future and tell you about it. Or not. Now, i don't know how much a 650 carb costs, but i think the Holley 670cfm cost me 398, and an intake is about 200 or less. I hope I helped.

Yes, YES!! Thanks. I was thinking about one of those TBI units. I know I went mudding a few days ago and couldn't hardly get it stuck in 2 wheel, let alone 4( oh and yes its 4-wheel drive..just those crappy self locking hubs.) Anyways... someone had told me about all those diffrent ways carbs screw up when your out mudding or rock crawling.. but they told me that TBI.. on my stock 350.. would help me push a good 250-280 hp. Then with the matching intake, maybe some mid-sized cams with a set of headers.. I sure could tackle alot... with some good mud swampers and a 2-6' lift kit. Either way.. I'm looking into the TBI system as we speak. Yes please get ahold of me when your parts are installed.. I would love to hear how they work before I spend the cash!

I will definately let you know. It will be a couple days though. And it's great to meet another OFF-ROADER on GTP! well, i know that your era Chevy truck requires more lift to fit the same tires as the straight axle trucks can fit with minimal lift. but as long as you don't use a BODY LIFT you'll be okay. If you gonna build it, build it right or not at all. But then again I also understand that lifts for the IFS truscks are a lot more than those for the old solid axle trucks. Anyways I will fill you in when i get those parts one.

Lol, awesome. Well right now.. I'm trying to get a short fixed.. it seems to be throwing everthing off for me. I guess I found it.. it seemed someone put a trailer hitch in the back, cutting into the tail lights, to put the trailor lights in.. well the morons just left the exposed wires there... to short everything. After finding that.. my Neutral-Saftey switch went bad.. so I had to fix that. Anyways.. I know the cons... very bad cons of putting just a body lift on my truck.. but a full lift.. well thats going to take time and money.. like you said.. not like the older gens of our trucks. I have a 81 with a mild 6' truck lift on it.. and it mud swampers came off because dad needs it to run up over to oklahoma when he picks up the 18 wheeler. So I got the mud swampers for me.. Buckshot mudders. Anyways.. anything small to start with.. maybe a good tune up( I know.. in the process), maybe putting a throttle body spacer, K&N Air Filter or cold air( I do mud ALOT, and water always gets in the motor compartment somehow.. so maybe no?) Oh and I have a set of headers...Open headers on my truck right now(thank god I live in a small town where no one cares how loud the truck is.) So what else can be done before I get the money for the new intake and what-not?

Have you ever changed your diff' fluids? You mentioned you do a lot of mudding and water in the engine compartment. I recommend you change your diff fluids. Have you ever taken your auto hubs apart? I don't know how the IFS hubs are, but you might want to learn how to disassemble and reassemble your hubs. and to check for water in them also. Ring and pinions are to expensive to be lubricating with water;)

Oh, and is that '81 yours, or just like the family mudder? If it's yours, or you could buy it from you dad or whatever, then i'd say to leave your 91 fairly stock. OR :trouble: If you wanted to get real ambitious.... You convert your 91 to SFS with parts from the 81! then you'd have something:D But really, if you could have that 81 as a designated mudder, you'd be much better off. It sucks when your only vehicle is out of commission for a week because you got mud in the carburator(my '89 Toyota 4x2 PU):O

Not recently, but I do plan on changin them soon. I broke down while mudding the other day, the truck stalled and wouldnt start. It was just the starter, which wasn't bad. Well the 81 is my dads, but its like a family thing.. his dad had it, then he had it and thats where it stops, lol! Anyways, I'm defintly planning on getting a kit to convert the truck, thier like 2.5k from Jegs. So I should have it in a few weeks.
