What is it with IT people working themselves into states of physical exhaustion?

A mate of mine regularly works 70-90 hour weeks, on top of weekend stuff from home. Madness.

Yeah, pretty much insane. There's just so much work to be done, that so few people know how to do. The bosses are oblivious to what's going on around them, and the sales people are livid because what they just sold to a client isn't working. Which is the sales person's own fault because 99% of the time they are selling a product that is in developement and just weren't paying attention.

So the IT fellas end up wearing themselves out trying to make everyone happy, because we're all-around nice guys.

Man - that is so not right.

I worry about my mate - his family has a history of heart trouble (of course, his old man was a butcher, so he probably ate more than his share of red meat).
