A CD Dilemma

CD's in the car or at home

  • Nicely stored in their cases at home ?

In the CD rack at home in their cases or in the CD holder in the car ??

I like the idea of them being all tidy at home in the cases but then Ive to kepp on getting them out whenever I want to listen to them.

Or I could keep them in the car in the CD holder ?? but then they get scratched and stuff because they are caseless !!!

I always struggle and keep on changing my mind ??
 
At home - Definitely at home.. Then make MP3 copies and get a carstereo that'll play MP3 files.. That's what we do....
 
Put them in a CD wallet that you can carry from your house to your car and then from your car to your house.

Duh.
 
Mine are in a little CD wallet thingymabob.
 
I have a 60-Disk CD Changer / Player and a 60-Disk CD Case Tower. My favorite 60 CDs are in the player and their corresponding case is in the propper place in my tower. The rest are either on a shelf somewhere or in a spinning CD rack.
 
OK. All 700 CDs are stored in their cases, alphabetically by artist, then chronologically in order of release, in CD Racks in the house.

Those CDs that are in the car are copies. That way, when the wife scratches them (and she will), it's only a 10p copy.

Hmm, maybe I should do the same thing as Giles. I've only got 1/10th the CDs anyway.

Right now I have them all in a portable CD case.

this is whart I do at the moment but I quite fancy Giles's idea of getting them all copied - Originals at home stored nicely in their cases and copies in the CD holder thingy

Ive only got one CD drive thing with my pc so I guess I'll have to see about getting another one !

I dunno about you but Id be heartbroken if they were to all get nicked !!
 
all 200 or so albums sorted by genre, then by artist then by album name - all on my hard drive. The exceptionally good ones are just scattered through my room.
 
I have 25 of them in my car. The rest are in alphabetical order in my room. :) I spend more time in my car than I do in my room, so it makes sense to do it that way.

Here too, though I've split it into a third category - new artists vs old artists, then alphabetically, then chronologically. I haven't got near 700, though.
 
define new/old? when is new when is old ... just a question
 
Mine are always kept in the cases unless they are in the 6 stacker in the car

Giles: 👍 700 Not to shabby there, makes my 300 or so pale in comparison
 
I always just make copies, or make MP3 CDs. That way, when someone breaks into your car, you'll just be out a couple CDRs (and the head unit, but compared to rare, irreplaceable, CDs, that's not a huge deal) instead of your favorite CDs that you'll never be able to replace.
 
Most of my cds are copies from friends. I'm poor and cant afford to buy cds.. Heh. :\

Anyway, i have just over 20.. They are all stored in cd cases that go in my backpack because i listen to my cd player at school more than anywhere else.

I gave up at around 400!

Usually, it's by artist, chaos (lazyness?) eventually takes over until the evening when I can't find that old CD...

Oh, sorry.

Don't laugh at organization. I hate being in a hurry and looking for the CD I want to listen to right now. So everything goes back in it's case every night.

Or at least, the next morning.
 
I have this thing to carry my walkman around in and that's where I usally keep my cds.
 
put a computer in your car running windows 98se and set the shell to winamp.exe or whatever and load your mp3s onto the hard disk. :D
 
well its like right now my CD's are in the car (in the garage under the house so not in arms reach of a would be thief!!)

and I fancy listening to one of them but cant

I think Im going to get them back inside and where they should be, and just take one or two with me for way to work etc
I suppose I could always take more if Im planning on going somewhere long distance

Yeah that what Im going to do keep em all at home where they belong.

Why for the question??? You never have seen that done? I install them in my friends cars all the time. . . Well not fully certified yet but taking my MECP in less then a month :D

You mean a comp head unit that will play the mp3's and you can have loads of then on the hard disk

No, I mean a whole computer system in the trunk of a car with a little 5 to 8 inch LCD screen installed either into the dash or the glove box or where my client's want it installed :D
 
Aaaahh the penny, it has fallen !!

And I trust your client will lace your wallet with plenty of those paper things you can buy stuff with !!

Do you have to run more than one battery to power it ?

It is all depending on the setup the client wants and what they can afford to run. Most of the time I setup a two battery system in their cars because they are running more things then the car can handle with a capacitor in the eletrical circuit. Sometimes it is a pain what some peeps want. . .
 
I though you'd have to use a cap

I always fancied one but my system never got big enough for one really

I had 2 12" kenwood subs - 2 Alpine V12 amps Kenwood 6 * 9's and Infinity kappa tweeters and mid-ranges up front

but that was a few years ago now. I was cool :cool: yeah !
