I bought GT2 used two days ago from EB, and whenever I play it on my PS2, the music randomly stops ingame, and the disc makes a clicking sound, and sometimes makes the game lag as it tries to read it. Then other times the screen will turn black as it tries reading the disc after races. It'll work if I open the tray then close it again. It isn't supposed to do that is it? I don't have a regular PSX to try it on, but i'm guessing it's compatible with PS2 and it's just the disc. The disc doesn't appear to be scratched much at all, either. Also, I have two different GT2 saves thanks to a friend borrowing a memory card and me getting bored in the meantime. Is there a way I can combine the data/cars/records? I tried doing Data Transfer>Combine, but it didn't seem to do anything. Much thanks

Can't help you with the game error but I can help you with data transfer.

Cars - use data transfer>trade...
Records - use data transfer>there should be something like merge/combine records etc.

When I tried trading, it wants me to buy them, and I don't have enough to buy them all. And also, when I did the data transfer for the records, it didn't seem to do anything. That doesn't give me the money, licenses, etc., does it?

Ok, I loaded my game from slot 1, with my other save in slot 2, I clicked on Slot 2 for the merge/combine, and it said successful, but I don't have my licenses, nor the golds/silvers/bronzes from it on my slot 1 save, it didn't seem to do anything at all..

Okay, first of all: since you got your game used, it's probably an early copy of GT2 (version 1.1 perhaps) and is therefore bugged. Buy a new copy of GT2 (Greatest Hits version) and get rid of the one you have...

#2: When you trade cars, you're actually buying them from one memory card to another. And (this is kinda bogus) the game doesn't trade the car, it actually duplicates it from one card to another..so that now there's 2 of the same car on 2 different cards. All parts are duplicated, as well, which is why a $4,000 Honda Civic will mysteriously cost up to several hundred thousand credits.

#3: The license transfer only works if you have played GT1 (not GT2) and have acquired all B, A, and IA licenses from the first game. If you use the same memory card that you played GT1 on, and hit transfer, you'll automatically get the B and A licenses in GT2 and won't have to take these tests. You won't get the IA license, tho. Confusing....

To add to that last comment, you also don't get the license at whatever level you had in GT. So in GT if you had the B license @ Gold then in GT 2 you only get bronze, and all the individual license are given as kiddie medals :grumpy:.

If you have a cheat cartridge you could try having more money to buy all the cars and then edit the code to allow you to have the same money as before.

Actually I think your disk is somewhat scratched or damaged. I scratched the TOP layer of my Gran Turismo and the disk often stops, has poor music that often cuts out. But it still works. Quite often after certain times I have to hit open and close. So the disc respins and loads.

Go back to EB and ask for a better copy since they sold you a dud.

No doubt. Game stores don't check all of the used games they play. If someone turns in a dud or lemon, it's your job to trade the game in so that they can give a smack upside the head to the poor chap who sold it to them. ;-). I usually get new games, since the price difference is miniscule and your games probably have better quality, and a higher resale value. 👍

If you live anywhere near a Wal-Mart, Target, Fred Meyer, mall, etc, there's no reason to get a used copy of GT2. It only costs like $14.00 new in my town! Divide that by all the hours you'll play (in my case, it's gotta be in the thousands by now) and it's such a bargain.

I buy preowned and don't have a problem with them. I scratched my GT disk as well sometime back, it wouldn't load the B license or the Sunday Cup races. When I started the game again I swapped it and havn't had any problems since.

B license and Sunday Cup... Who the hell cares?

I've never even looked at the licenses (aside from the odd accidental clicky) since silvering and bronzing them, and I never race hte Sunday Cup because of the slow cars, bad money and **** prize cares.

Like I said, who cares? ;)

One question, so I won't have to create a new thread just for that:

I have GT2 since few days and have tried to play it on my PSTwo today. I have two memory cards in slots 1 and 2 but the game says there is no memory card. So what is that about? Does it needs PSOne memory cards or what?

Yes it does. The PS2 memory cards are of a different format than the PSOne cards. So, you need a PSOne card to save. PSOne games work fine on a PS2 so its not the game.

Funnily enough I cared... I cared enough to get it swapped. Why? Because I was starting a new game again, my girlfriend was also starting a game and if those tracks\licenses weren't working then which others might be the same. I didn't trawl through the disk checking every single race.

Besides GT is the best game.

Your signature is bang on.

This is a bug on the very old PSX models, even if you got a mint condition GT1 the game would still do this on the first gen PSX models.

Sounds like a scratched disk to me.

There should be no music pausing or the game going blank. Of course, if you've played for over 5-6 hours; then PlayStations of all varieties tend to have the rare, but always annoying "freeze-up" problem.

It was on my ps2, but I returned it and got another, and it's been working flawlessly.

Cool. I love happy endings. :)

i find the easiest way to avoid my psone freezing is just turn it on and flip it upside down. that way those little vents get more cold air. and my ps2 just plain freezes alot, i dont know why, and ive already replaced it once because it wouldnt load any games
