Why is it, that after three editions of Gran Turismo, there are no skidmarks? Doesn't it bug anyone besides me to floor it off the line, peel out, and have nothing to show for it? And one other tiny detail, maybe I'm just nitpicking, but why don't the reverse lights work on the cars? Are these really that hard to implement with the game engine? Every other racing game has them.

Sorry, its 3:30 in the morning, and I'm kinda not all here. :dunce: I may be new to these boards, but please don't assume I'm some noob to the whole GT scene, and I'm not some retard who wants to make GT more like NFSU or any of that crap (Although, it is an enjoyable game.). So please, refrain from making comments about telling me how to not get flamed. Thank you.

You're not about to get flamed for any of that man, you're about to get flamed for not using the search button, if there's one thing that pisses a choice few of us off around here it's duplicate threads.

Damn you!!!!

Whoa there... calm it down fella... We were just being helpful...

You'll be glad that it wasn't Viper Zero that saw this first.

EDIT : Dammit... you beat me again!!!

I'm sorry if that sounded rash, that's not what I intended. Just trying to be polite and courteous, unlike many people I know. And I know you were both just trying to help, and I thank you both.

Yes not having the tire skid marks has annoyed me and yes not having real indicator lights, and reverse lights has REALLY annoyed me!!! :irked:

So ure not the only one................... :D

Cos you're gonna indicate when you're going into a turn?

EH?!

Some people get annoyed by the smallest things - racing against only 5 AI cars REALLY annoys me - couldn't give a s**t about indicators or reverse lights - i'll leave that to the petty gran turismo police

I hoped this would be a threat about details that should be fixed in GT4 (some threats about exist already, but it would be usefull if someone could add the links :dunce: )

- possibility to erase best lap times
- ability to put off menu sound effects and music
- ability to put off the count-down sounds every time you start a race
- ability to unselect stupidly waving people besides the road
- better (higher) view angle behind car, and not fixed straight behind the car like the far away view in GT4-P

Details to keep like in GT4-P

- no spectators noise

Agreed a hundred times over. I think the number of oppositions should increase with difficulty, to say take some boredom out of long races. It should start off like one on one or 2 opponents, and then gradually work its way up to 21 opponents in formula GT, like it should be.

Nonetheless, GT has been built on attention to detail. They don't need to sort out any of the huge problems, because there aren't any - okay so racing against 5 braindead AI isn't great, but imagine the mayhem 19 braindead AI could cause. At Monaco. You wouldn't be able to get in the pits for them all stuck on the barrier at the entrance...

Niceties like proper reverse lights and even horn/headlight flashes are part of the "petty" details GT was founded on and has developed with. I would certainly like to see them (not so much indicators - I don't think there's any buttons left for them, for a start - only D-pad up and down are free), although not at the expense of any larger developments.

I agree on the AI situation. I really wish they would put in more than five. What is Nurburgring going to be like with 6 cars on th track? It's going to suck! By the end of the race, you'll all be 5 miles away from each other. And like Famine just said, they need to make the AI so that you aren't racing slot cars. Because thats pretty much what they are. The race in a perfectly straight line, and when they try to pass on a straightaway, they mess it up because they aren't following an AI path, espeically when that straightaway turns into a sharp corner and they aren't at the outside of the corner to begin with. I just wish I felt more like I was racing another human being.

Having skidmarks for each car takes up memory. Especially with the drifters. The wouldn't be playable with real time skidmarks.

reverse lights should be easy... but Indicators?!?!?!?!? When was the last time someone signalled their turn during a race? Although it might help Sato finish more gp's ;)

In touring car and GT races, people often use indicators to signal to faster moving, lapping cars which side of the track they'll occupy so as not to block them. Or sometimes just to say they're going into the pits.

- ability to put off menu sound effects and music

You can do this... try the options menu in GT3.

First off welcome to GTP Omen87, the AI situation is more a case of can't than won't, the number of calculations GT has for each movment of the car is vastly greater than the number used in Race Driver for example. They take up a large amount of processing power, so until the hardware improve ie PS3, there can't be more than 6 per race without sacrifcing the perfect car control and physics KY is aiming for, they are far from perfect, but for a console game they are the best around.

Reversing lights and Indicators no, well at least ot indicators, but skidmarks should really be included. If only you could upgrade the hardware of a PS2... :sulk:

The wouldn't be playable with skidmarks i know, (sorry i like typos like that) but it would be such a great addition, tosee at least part of your carnage, even if it isn't bits of bodywork...

You should be able to set how many opponents you want in Arcade though, and be able to set it really high for a laugh, like 30 or something. (I am serious, so i'm not going to pick something stupid like 100)

You can brake - you have brake lights. You can reverse - why not have the reverse light(s)? It's not a difficult task, comparatively...

I think people here are forgetting the fact that by the time GT4 is released, probably without all the little things suggested, there will be a grand total of zero availible bytes of data on the disc. I'm sure PD has had to find new ways of compressing data just to get it to where it is now. Hell I'll be supprised if it's released on one disc.

Perhaps like I did in the first reply?

I don't personally know the actual speed of processing of the PS2 in respect to tracking cars and changes to them. I wouldn't expect it to be anything above 60 times a second. With 6 cars on track being monitored they manage to pull out, process and return the data 60 times a second. The speed of processing would be a function of the amount of memory (variables) that have to be accessed and potentially altered. It stands to reason that a change to the amount of cars on track necessitates an expansion in the amount of memory, and being a fundamental part of that function, a subsequent change the speed of processing as the amount of data being processed increases.

I recall reading a while ago that reverse lights had been omitted because there wasn't enough polygons for them, which seems ludicrous, but it could be a processing decision, we don't know. I can't personally recall seeing reverse lights in action on a race car but I wouldn't be surprised if they are still in use.

Go read some of those other threads where we actually answered these questions, I can't be bothered retyping my explanation against skidmarks.

Hey man I agree about the lights and skid marks I want them to.
WELCOME TO GTP! :D
enjoy your stay.

Thanks to all of you who have welcomed me. And sorry I created such a controversy.

I'm pretty sure that, in Britain at least, racing regulations dont require a working reverse light. But since a majority of the cars in GT are road cars, then they should have working reverse lights anyway.

Having said that, i don't care for reverse/indicator/interior lights!/flashing headlights/horns/working sunroofs/heated rear screens or wing mirrors that fold automatically when you park etc etc being in GT at all - i know they class GT as a 'driving simulator' more than a 'racing game' but you can take this too far. If this is the direction people want to go down - why not have the forthcoming Paris circuits, not as a rally stage or street circuit but just as an every day city with traffic etc. That would make it a more realistic 'driving simulator' wouldn't it? Think of it as Gran Theft Auto - without the crime missions or guns. Perhaps in the online version your fellow 'competitors' could make a 'citizens arrest' on you for not indicating when turning or driving beyond the speed limit - that would be a fun game wouldn't it?

The indicator lights are important. With some more AI you could turn them on when you want to overtake an opponent... :P

Damn, one more day and it would have been a whole YEAR since this thread dried up, where you been?
