Firstly I’d like to congratulate you on a very professional new design for GTPlanet
👍. As far as I understand you haven’t had as much time as you would’ve liked for testing, anyway I’ve made a list of problems/errors that I’ve found related to the update.
In Internet Explorer 6 when large horizontal banner ads appear, they stretch the middle content creating horizontal scroll bars. I’m currently running behind the times at 1024x768, I’m sure many other users are on a similar set up. IE also appears to be ignoring any sort of margin placed between the middle and right hand content, which makes the design rather aesthetically imbalanced.
The fact the margin is being ignored in IE it creates plausible overlapping of visual elements in the wiki, not good. So far everything mentioned works correctly in Firefox, although throughout the site the right margin looks smaller than the one on the left by about 7px or so, a rather precise estimate
.
The bottom of the left hand navigation disappears at the homepage in Internet Explorer however it looks normal in the wiki.
Over at the wiki again, the “Contents” box has no line spacing in Firefox compared to IE making content look cramped. Having the wiki context menu underneath the “Guides” menu is somewhat of an accessibility problem having to scroll halfway down the page whenever you want to access a link. Is it not possible to move it to the right hand side replacing the skyscraper Adsense ad. Then put a horizontal one discreetly down the bottom instead? It’s just really frustrating and awkward!
The “…more” links in the “Guides” menu are incorrect URLs and I feel are redundant as they serve the same purpose as the headings, as they both link to the designated category. The “Guides” links also need to be partly redone. The “Other Games” link should lead to a category section holding subcategories regarding GTC, GT4 Prologue, Vision GT (for now), and when I get around to it Tourist Trophy. I originally created the “The World of Gran Turismo” category to house information related to GT, eg. Polyphony Inc, Kazunori Yamauchi, SCE etc… However it really needs to be appropriately renamed and made into its own miscellaneous category of sorts, as it should not be located under “Other Games”, due to the face it is not a game and a main category in its own right. I really hope all of that made sense!
I have other ideas on modifications to the wiki template to enable better layout of information, however I wont delve into those at the moment, as the last thing that you need to be is overwhelmed anymore than you currently are by nitpickers like me.
With GTP8, list elements are a smaller font size than regular text, combined with the line spacing it makes posts look too spaced out. It’s a personal preference really, perhaps you could decrease the line spacing for list elements, return them to the regular font size or do nothing at all, it is your call after all. The “Last edited by Hans Moleman…” text, is also positioned right underneath the user’s signature, it could do with some padding.
Well at 2am that’s all for now, it should keep you busy,
!
EDIT: When signed in as Premium are the ads removed from the Wiki, homepage as well as the forums? The Sticky label on threads may need some styling, it looks rather naked!
