My PS3 became unstable after downloading 1.16. I deleted all data relating to games that I no longer played which liberated 12 gig of sace on the hard disc - for me that was enough to get the PS3 stable again. I hope the same applies to you because if you have to install updates again it can be a time consuming business.
👍 Good advice.
In my experience, and from what I've read, running any type of computer with a hard drive near capacity is going to increase the chances for problems of various types while running games or anything else.
I think a lot of problems that people report probably come from running, particularly older models of PS3, with a hard drive that's all filled up.
I've often wondered if that's why there's more problems right after an update too...
It's not the update itself necessarily, but the fact that many people's PS3 hard drives just got a little bit more full, and they were already pretty full before.
Photomodes also build up fast if you take a lot of them.
If you're having problems, it's worth it to take 20 minutes to look through your gallery and delete all those out of focus & uninteresting photomodes you have built up over the past year.
I'm also a firm believer that the PS3 works best when it's got one job at a time.
Use another device to listen to music while racing instead of custom BGM.
Also, clean the vents on the PS3. Take a look to see if there's dust build up. Then get some tweezers and carefully pull the tufts of dust out of there. Don't stick anything into the vents, just pull away the dust.
Another thing is, you should not have all sorts of cords and different electronic equipment all crammed together & up against each other.
This is bad.
First of all, all this stuff heats up, and you want all your equipment properly ventilated with breathing room around them.
And second, all this stuff, including power cords & such, is putting out electromagnetic signals... and you don't want one thing having the possibility of interfering with another. Give them all space.
