I have noticed that a lot of our new members are announcing themselves in the recent 100,000 member threads recently. There also seems to be a bit of a trend of new members announcing themselves in other places around teh boards.

Should we create a new thread/subforum to welcome all of these folks to the 'Planet? Maybe we could use that to help keep them here too, if they make that first post.

I support this idea, it'd be nice for new members to have an introduction area, since just throwing yourself into the mix can turn out a little messy.

I support Manual transmissions.

What about clear corners?

Not that i'm talking about cars with OEM clear corners or anything.

Also we dont need an introductions forum tbh, if people want to introduce themselves they can do it in the rumble strip or whatev. Seriously it's not like anyone remembers 99% of the people who post a HI GUYZ IM NEW WHATZ UP KEKEKKEKEKEKEKEJAJAJAJAJAJAJA thread.

I was thinking that it would take a little pressure off of the new guys to make that first post, which means we will retain even more members. Plus, being able to talk to us "senior members" might make them feel a little more welcome.

True, we won't remember 99% of those new kid threads but I would bet that 99% of the new members would remember their "watsup" threads. And we could school them on the rules around here before before they start going "DOOD! I7 WUZ TEH WIKIDIST DR1F7 EVAH!!!!!!!!" in all of our more "serious" threads.

It is also something that I have seen on many of the other boards that I have taken a look at. (GTP is still the only one for me.)

I think that this would be a good idea too, just because I t hink that newer members would be more likely to post if there was a distinct "Newbies" area.

Sounds great! I think that the sub-section should be underneath the Premium section (on the main GTP menu part) or something similar like that so then they find it easily without having to trapse through every section just to find it.

I agree with everyone. Maybe a "introduction corner" wouldn't be so bad. And it also make the newbie learn more about GTP. I mean it could help them not to make threads that already been made (unless their spammers of course ;))

Apart from the odd spammer with nothing else to add other than 'Welcome to GTP....' who is actually going to visit the thread other than new members???

Most new members will naturally head straight for the GT4 or GT5 threads anyhow, it will probably be months before they stray into the Rumble Strip, by which time they'll no longer be new members. If a thread along these lines is created the GT5 area would be the place to have it IMO.

But like i said above, who other than the newbies and the terminally bored will ever bother visiting?

We've kicked the idea around on numerous occasions, and the general consensus among the staff is that a specific forum is not required because traffic is not that high. I also prefer to not have a dedicated "New Member" thread, because then each new member tends to get lost in the shuffle rather than having his or her own thread (if they wish to).

Of course, Jordan will make the final call, but know that it's been proposed and discussed before.

I support destroying Camaros by train.

An I'm new area is a pretty good idea, good place for stickies too.

I support being the one driving the train.:D
I also support the new member section, we could also put the "read these before you post" threads by Jordan and the moderators there.

:-)

Yep i support this too, why not a sub-forum in the Rumble Strip?
Yeah, I believe a sub-forum in the rumble strip should be for birthdays too, so things can be a bit more organized, but this is just my opinion, thats all. :)

I support it, a few car clubs i'm in use this feature and it does make it easier to make that first post (unless you're here just for one reason or whatever) and i use a introduction forum in my forums too.

I support it. It's easier for new members to introduce themselves instead of just jumping in. A site that I am a member of had a separate forum for just saying "Welcome, new user" run by the administrators. Although it should most likely be a sub-forum of the rumble strip or a sub-forum on the main message boards screen.

Traditionally, I never really saw the need for one, as I'm not sure if such forums actually increase user retention or participation. I know that, personally, I never do bother to venture into such forums when I join other sites.

I think this is a good idea :) saves cluttering in the rumble strip of threads which will not be sustained, but posted in several times in a short space of time then forgotten.

We don't need an "introductions sub-forum".

1) Lots of new users probably use it to ask oft-asked Gran Turismo questions, which migh not encourage searching (or reading for more than 60 seconds).

2) More junk threads are likely to arise. Most new-member threads don't have much of a point; I'd prefer to learn more about them, their experiences, and knowledge through traditional posting. I don't need to be bombarded with lots of useless "stats".

3) Introductions are welcome in the Rumble Strip.
