Couldnt find much out there about driver AI.

I LOVE GT5, so dont get me wrong, but the AI is so weird.

Has anyone else noticed that when you get close to the computer opponent, it slows right down, often backing off instead of accelerating out of a corner.

It ruins the 'racing' experience, if a driver did this in real life, depending on the concequences, his licence would be withdrawn. Anyway, just a massive fail on PDs part, as in order to have a ''race'' you have to spec your vehicle much lower than the opponent.

For example, if you enter a JGTC races, in the apropriate vehicle, Rain or Shine, its a joke, there is no 'racing' you just go past them all, and stack up a huge leed?

This has resulted in seasonal events, where you have to work your way from the back of the grid, to the front, which is made easy by the ''stalling'' opponents. Near them in a bend, and BANG, you either go intot the back of them or go straight past!? Some seasonal races would be good, if the AI wasnt completely flawed....

The game has huge potential, amaizing car models, great handling, etc... but the AI is just a joke. I know there are YouTube videos showing how they are more inteligent than previous, or better than Forza, or whatever you like, you can finds a video to support your theory. But it doesnt matter. The point is, its too easy to beat, and there is no real racing.

Some of the PC sims are so hard by comparison. Like, impossible, you cannot aford to make one mistake, or they will be all over you. In GT, they are useless!

Anyone else finding this? Does it matter to enough people ( it should its a racing game ) that PD could consider doing something about it?

Yeah this topic horse has been beat'in! Yes the AI drivers redefine timid driving..does it alter the experience, you bet! Solution...play online or don't drive behind the AI into a turn, keep your distance then pass....GT5 is still highly enjoyable, you just have to learn to improve your experience by positioning yourself correctly when racing against the AI. And if you are using a controller, then you most definitely, aren't giving yourself the best experience with GT5! I highly recommend a Logitech G27 bolted to a Playseats. Peep Amazon!

Hi.

Thanks for responses.

I am using Fanatec Turbos S ( w clubsport pedals ) and a G25. 2 Player racing online is great ( having two wheels in our house makes it really good fun ).

And I agree, you have to posistion yourself in a way which meens you can just fly past. Now and again I forget and smack into them when they decide not a hoof it out of a bend.

But big fail. In a way.

I will agree, its still a joy, love setting laps on leader boards, and generally modifying / seting up cars etc. . .

But why is it then that PC sims get much better AI? Is there a technical issuse ( think not ). Or do people expect a console game to be easier, less sim like?

I suppose the real future is Online racing anyway. So i should quit moaning about this. But the Online experience is comprimised too, handling isnt great , more like GT4.

Please just use the search feature im tired of all these AI complaint threads. Im pretty sure 95% of us are.

1. Yeah, they back off. This little flaw was introduced in one of the patches. Hope it gets rectified.

2. Everyone is aware of the slow AI in "chicken chase" mode. Would be better if it was standing starts (or rolling starts with minimal spacing) thus, faster AI. However, change the AI in these races without changing starts is gonna lead to an impossible race (unless you can make up 5 seconds a lap).

3. Couldn't find a topic about AI???. Really... Did GT5 AI topics suddenly become the modern day equivalent of Shergar without anyone noticing?

I think they need to make a patch where the b-spec drivers aren't so stupid as they are now.

sorry in a way to have even mentioned it. However, I guess you have an option to use the search filter too, so that you dont find topics you dont want to read. Then you could not comment in them. :sly:

I will have a look. ;)

But yeh. Glad to see it is such a hot topic. At least there are people talking about it, and I suppose that makes it more likeley that they will do something to fix it.:cheers::cheers:

B-Spec drivers and AI opponents certainly must share the same programing. B-Spec drivers get "better" as they get to higher levels so a Level 40 B spec driver is as good as they get.

I took one of my Level 40 Bob's and put him in a race and then I took the exact same car/setup and entered the same race. My lap times were over 4 second faster.

They clearly aren't programed to drive as fast as a relatively compotent human.

I expect this is done on purpose because people won't race in games if the AI drivers win all the races. PD has lots of information on how fast the average GT driver is and sets the AI lap times accordingly. It might be nice for them to make the AI skill adjustable but the fact remains they will always set the AI so their customers can win the races.

Given this system the human driver who wants to up the challenge can select slower cars until their lap times are competative with the AI cars and race that way. I certainly approach the Seasonal races that way so I enjoy the challenge of winning the gold with as similar car and set up as the AI but still catch the lead car which has a 20 to 25 second head start.

The AI / Bspec in the whole GT series is notoriously brutal / lame!

In the past, the AI would stick to their lines at all costs! It's the same now, but they're even more brutal, the higher you go. (I'm running without any updates... Long story  )

Anyway, Bob can't / won't late-brake, or rotate like we can... He can also be an utter retard when it comes to passing. But again, that's nothing new.

Unlike many other games there's only one level of difficulty in GT5. I think the AI is the way it is so it shall suit less experienced gamers as well. If you want a bigger challenge you can downtune the car or drive on lower grip tires.

Why couldn't they have kept the difficulty for experts and let the beginners over tune there car?

Makes no sense.
