I know what you mean. Like you are fully awake, but cannot birng yourself to physically get up. I just attribute it to extreme laziness.

Sleep paralysis - teh coll!

You have a neural block while you're asleep, to prevent excess movement (unless you suffer from somnambulism, in which case you're a freak anyway). If you're woken too sharply, you can actually be awake before the neural block has dissipated - so your mind is active but you cannot move. It's pretty much normal - but it doesn't happen often.

Yep - I've had it at least twice I can recall.

Sleep is one of those fabulously interesting things for scientists. What our brain does when we're grabbing Zs is just weird beyond the telling of it. One of my favourites is "lucid dreaming" - where you can take control of dreams, rather than going along for the ride. I used to have a persistant nightmare as a kid, but I learned to lucid dream and never had it again.

Humans are odd!

How do you exactly do lucid dreams?? I want to have a dream that I can control.

I got that after skating one time, i was ripping it up and then I just couldnt get up, my friends are like 'come on man we have to go' and I'm all "FFS I can't!" Nuts, same as after I ran the City to Surf (race in Sydney) It was nuts. Othertimes Ive done the oppisite, im totally unaware of something and my body just does it, often in stuff like bike ridin when something happens suddenly I'll go into almost slow motion before breaking from 40 km/h, up onto the front wheel in about 10m (ok I don't know how far exactly but not very far) before stopping.

It's difficult, but easier if you have a certain type of brain - one where neither side is dominant.

It relies on you forcing yourself to remember a dream/nightmare when you've woken up - and thinking of what else you could have done - and then remembering that you're having it again when you're having it again and doing it differently... Not everyone can actually remember dreams when they're awake, which rules them out.

I've actually been able once to control a dream I hadn't had before - or that I don't remember having had before (more importantly). But I'm a freak all round really.
