Hi, people. Longtime not see.

I too was shocked what I read about GT HD. But I heard there was a mistranslation at the Japanese business site Nikkei and it wouldn't be all that bad.

I know I could post it in the regular thread, but it could be looked over very fast. And I want to clear this confusion asap.

I read a new article that would clear the confusion. It's a dutch article, so I will translate it to English in my best possibility.
The article goes like:

Gran Turismo HD comes, like previously announced, in two versions. The Classic version will be no less then GT4 in High Definition and it will include every car and tracks of GT4. You will however have the possibility to buy cars and tracks if you don't wanna bother unlocking them. The prices for these "unlockables" are, like previously announced, between 0,35 euro and 0,70 euro for a car and between 1,35 euro and 3,35 euro for a track. Rest be assured: these buys are completely OPTIONAL. PD will however release more tracks and cars on top on this game.

The Premium version is gonna be a Prologue-like version of GT5. The game will have 2 tracks and 30 cars, but also updated graphics from the Classic version, like the 3D public. You will not have to buy additional content for this game.

I read Gamespot has confirmed this news.

More information also from Gamespot:

*GT HD will come out at the end of this year in Japan en next year in Europe. GT5 is planned for 2008.

* PD uses GT HD as a learning school, remarkes of gamers will be adressed in GT5.

* The online mode in GT HD will be based on GT4 Online Bèta, it will contain all four gamemodes (Quick Race/Tuned Race/Private Race/Time Attack), but there will be new modes too. There will be a possibility for car clubs where you can trade your car models. There will be leaderboards. The online mode will be worldwide available at the release.

* There will be a damage model in GTHD, but only for race cars. They still don't have permission to damage portrait consumer cars. :(

*Ferrarri will be in the game en will have multiple models. The Ferrari 599GB '06 is confirmed to be in the game.

* There will be thousands of upgrades, updates and other items available at the PNP network. PD will give us regular updates for the AI, so the AI will challenge us anytime and the races will be more difficult with each update.

I hope this cleared a lot of confusion.

And I hope amar22 will hear the same news very fast, so he can confirm all this.

i hope this is true as it would make way more sense on the buying cars thing.

I hope that is true, I just wish that either way Sony or PD would jsut come forwards and officially confirm something.

I thought it came with 4 tracks? Though I am confused as I saw video footage at La Sarthe, Tokyo, and Nords, as well as the Grand Canyon, unless they were from the classic version.

they really like that Gran Canyon map don't they?

As for the car purchase thing being optional, that's interesting. It makes more sens then what was previously rumoured.

They were from the GT-HD demo at E3 earlier in the year which was based on GT-HD:Classic.

That= WOOOOO HOOOOOO

hopefully it CAN BE CONFIRMED

That would make sense that you either unlock or buy..... but im not going to spend loads on what is basically a demo, if it costs asmuch as a full game to include all of the GT4 stuff then I will just wait for GT5.

Car buying makes a lot of sense. How about the Premium/Classic thing though? Originally, it was believed that they were two different modes in one game, or one set. If they are calling them "versions" in this new information, are they now a two separate releases?

From what I saw of the demo that KY was playing on in the announcement, HD Premium and HD Classic are on the same game.

I'd consider it similar to GT1, and the hidden GT1 in "HD" mode or whatever they called it.

That's nice. Not that big of a deal to me though.

Definitely sounds miles better, if this is the truth. However, I believe you. Thanks for clearing it up.

Well.... this is very strange news. It may be that translating the details from Japan is more confusing than it should be, or maybe that Japan is getting a very rough early version of the game to combat interest in the Wii. Our version in the west is going to be delayed till next year sometime, so I suppose we'll learn the nitty gritty in the coming weeks. I'm hoping by Sony's October conference.

It sounds great but almost too good to be true. (the full gt4 mode and just unlock your cars and tracks by play)

I'll say it here just like I said in the larger GTHD thread -- if the need to buy downloads is an option for the lazy, how will Sony/PD profit from a game that they hope will cost as little as $5, being sold to consumers who consist largely of hardcore GT players who will gladly sit down and unlock everything for free? :indiff:

Because the GT:Classic content has already been made, they GT:Premium additional content however will probably cost money to download. I'm not convined that this thread is providing correct information myself though, but I can see how they can still make more per person than the usual profit from selling disks from the GT:Premium.

Thats the first positive thing I've heard in the last months, I hope that is true.:dopey:

Ah, good point. I didn't think of the "GT:Classic's content has already been made" bit.

Still, that doesn't help the fact that, provided that the prices we've heard are accurate, GTHD:Premium will be charging too much for its cars and tracks, and GT5 could end up adopting the same prices and pay-to-download system.

I really hope this is true, but I'm not convinced yet. :scared:

Hmm very interesting information. Taken on board. And awaiting confirmation from the actual games release (which seems like the only thing that can confirm something!). Its a lot more pleasing then what we've heard so far (imo).

RE: GT:HD Classic content being already created. This is undoubtedly the case. With my background knowledge there is no way i can think this otherwise of such talented and "proffesional" digtial content creators. The norm is Create more then you need, then downscale/rez.

NB: also... i dont know if its all that accurate about it taking months to model a vehicle. i've created items of similar detail (and much greater detail) in far less time and seen many surface modelers re-create brilliantly detailed vehicles quicker. And they all hold day jobs to boot (i.e. dont do the modeleling of the item full time like the guys at PD would be). Plus with reverse engineering (which i do a lot of as well) and the toosl available today.. you can get things digitised very quickly in perfect detail. And this is without even mentioning the fact that you can generally get the native models from the creators without that much fuss. Especially when licensing and what-not is concerned with such a large company as PD.

Needles to say that all this info and may more has been collected by in the very first thread (throughout insane 500+ posts :)). However, nice from you that you've compilated info from few sources.

As for optional / non optional downloads - it has also being mentioned few days ago, just lika everything else. It sounds most resonable of all speculations, and sounds logical-wise, especially when you take into concern the amount of cash that could be derived from track-revenues. We all hope it will be the way GTHD Classic will be presented in final.

However, nothing will be clear until PD decides to put out official fact sheet about upcoming GT game. Due to fact GTHD should be out in December, I hope that first full press-release can be expected in the beggining of November.

I've heard that they're going to add motorcycle into the game, I hope this is a confusion.

id bet that it is, they had motorcycles in the E3 demo, but i doubt they are going to include motorcycles, that would make Tourist Trophy Pointless. I hope they bring that game back to in a GT game syle(buy/sell/modify bike)

Having a fully detailed model is one thing, but I think half of the struggle is to simplify it to GT's native resolution so that it still looks incredibly detailed but takes up as little space as possible. They'll test it, see how much processor power it takes to do the model, simplify it, critique it asthetically, test it, simplify, critique, etcetera... that's the part that probably takes a long time.

I suppose they could always create a program that does all the simplification automatically, but that's PD's problem, not ours.

It's also possible that the time needed includes dynamics modelling and the like... not to mention that they'll probably be doing a couple of cars at the same time.

------

This all sounds exciting. I hope they release this soon. :D

Indeed. It's very irritating when you see a great 3D model on a user-created car for RACER, or even one of the Need for Speed games, only to download it and find out that it slows the game down because it uses 9,000,000,000,000,000 polygons.

Some amateur modelers just don't know the meaning of "efficiency."

Know what you mean... of course, I don't race on the computer any more... having spent nearly $1000 on rims and tires, I don't have any spare change at the moment to spend on a good wheel... but I would p*ss me off royally downloading stuff for counterstrike, then finding out it wouldn't work right on our server. :ouch:

The way I see it, everything still hinges on how GT5 will open up cars, tracks, etc, and what new Premium content must still be bought in GT5. If GT5 unlocks content as all previous versions have, what are all of the implications surrounding that process?

There was no mention of bought content being optional in either the Famitsu interview or the TGS post show presentation and you'd think that that kind of point would have been made clear.

I have to presume that GT:HD Classic will disappear and all we get in GT5 is the equivalent of GT:HD Premium mode and I also presume GT5 will unlock stuff, as we play the game. So, any amount of money invested in Classic content will become worthless each time a Classic part we bought earlier is unlocked in GT5 with gameplay.

It will be really interesting to learn what Premium content will be available and how much of it we must buy just to access it.

Cheers,

MasterGT

yes guys of course doing all the other things would take time. I wasnt denying that (and am quite well aware of other aspects obviously). Simply stateing some facts about some comments i've seen lately about how long it takes to reverse engineer something.

Texturing robably takes a fair amount of time. But then agan they are fairly simple decals on vehicles so come to think of it for cars that woudlnt be that time consuming.

Its all rather interesting thats for sure. :)
