A noob question.

If I change the user name in my PS3 will it affect my save file? Will my save file retain my old user name or will it use the new one? I have no idea on it.

If you change your user name, your name will be changed in the saved file but it won't affect it. For example, you'll see your new name on the starting grid. Unless you create a new user, which is a different case.

At least that how I remember it when I changed my user name in my old PS3.

If you wish to change your name of your user account typing your new PSN ID, you have to newly create an exclusive game data apart from the one you had retained on your previous account,(The data is transferable if you maintain two accounts on the same PS3, but it becomes impossible to attain exclusive trophies on the account)but the data doesn't get affected if you just change your username shown separately from your ID itself.
