Is comfort soft better than sports hard, and is sports soft better than racing hard?
Ignoring durability but about performance.

Well, you really can't ignore durability as it directly relates to performance n any scenario that involves tire wear. Once heated, but with minimal use, higher grade tires will always possess more grip than lower grade tires. With tire wear on, however, lower grade tires will maintain their own higher levels of grip for longer periods of time than higher grade tires. As it is, I'm inclined to run Racing Hard tires on most every race car, both for the realism and the increased tire life. Very rarely do I throw Racing tires of any sort on a road car, regardless of how modified it is, as the lack of adjustable downforce (rear AND front) means there will still, invariably, be slip. Slip leads to wear (duh!). But I digress. The very short answer is that higher grade tires will always perform better when a proper tune is employed (they can exaggerate deficiencies in a stock tune).

@ DDAAVVIIDD82 - No need repeat what I wrote:)

Nice to strike preemptively at any potential follow-up questions, and I had the time.

A good answer although I would add that the reason behind my choice of tires is to get the proper (approximation) real life performance from the cars (unmodified production).

If that's what you're after there's a good list of recommended car/tire combination prepared by GTP member calan_svc (a link to google document): http://tiny.cc/zeo7r

Also if you have access to skid pad test data- Road and Track has a good collection on their website, here's a stock tire calculator by calan_svc. Right click to save the excel file: GT5 Stock Tire Calculator

It depends on your definition of performance.
CS can never beat SH lap times. They can make the car handle better though.
