This an official cry for help here. I need help with an essay/dissertation, whatever... it is to be about 2000 words, argumentative and on the title "international civil war"
If anyone has any ideas or readied pieces i would be soo soooo grateful! It is part of an english folio at the end of brittish high school and MUST be in before thursday... and i am the master of utterly rewriting these things, so if youre doing a similar assignment, i guarantee plaguerism will not be commited.
So please please help if you can.

International civil war? Isn't that a contradiction?

Exactly. I thought that up looking at the action the UK(and others) are taking in civil wars in, mainly, Libya. It sort of makes sense that way...

So it's more of an opinion paper on current events than a historical research paper?

Thats the plan. Sort of. I should have made that a bit more clear. Sorry...

No problem. As an american I'd be inclined to write on the initial involvement in Iraq by the clinton and Bush administrations. Lots of easy to access info on that one and you can sound "educated" as long as you provide a biased argument. Plus you may get brownie points for writing on something international that may not have been in your news every day (not sure if it wasn't to be honest :P )

Do your own damn work.

I see where youre coming from, except that the PM over here is Still trying to get away from the memory of Iraq, it is still quite a topic here. As if doing well in Libya would somehow make up for all the percieved mistakes in Iraq.
But maybe a shift to looking just at the mid-east generally would be more sensible, as Libya could change overnight and make my essay look really stupid.

To be honest, it sounds like your teacher is fishing for you to write about Libya. I mean you could always go back and write about korea....I'd want to write something different than everyone else but also be sure that your teacher doesn't ONLY want to hear about Libya.

Try doing some research, and earning the grade, yourself. Who knows, you might actually learn something in the process.

Theres no need for that.
Learning, i have covered. Just so you know, i am one of the top students in my high school. I am in ffifth year (in scotland we go to six) and doing four highers(or gcse in England) and two Advanced highers (which is the highest grades you can acheive without going to a University.)
English i am coping well, i just thought i would get a slightly broader view of the kinds of ideas people could give me for this political persuasive peice.

The teachers not pushing for Libya, we just got given the persuasive remit and left to find our own topics. The death penalty, abortion, twilight and "Size 0 Culture" are the sorts of slightly clichéd (imho) topics a lot of people are covering. So libya is something that got quite ignored...

1) I'd rather go with, say, Somalia than Lybia. Too recent to actually write about, in my opinion. Lack of readily available information and a bit too tasteless, I'd say...

2) Don't copy stuff. A german politician had to resign very recently due to that kind of stuff...

The lack of info is part of why im struggling to be honest...
I dont think that the Qualifications board looks quite so deep as ideas, just for fairly obvious copying so with my genuine aptitude for totally restyling an essay, i can (and have gotten away with) multiple copy, paste and rewrite situations from major news sites. Its not the skill im lacking, more of a general tone or angle to start from...

Thats the easy part! It's an opinion essay - just choose one and move on :D It doesn't even have to be your true opinion as long as you write it well.

Then i really dont know why im finding it so difficult. :-S
Thanks for helping though, a topical change and a metaphorical self kick to the face, it has done wonders.

Well I just had NO clue if the (huge) number of Americans on here use essay in school... so many odd little words never quite cross the atlantic. So yeah, I have wriiten my one-tenth of a dissertation, typed it back up, then emailed it to both my emails and backed it up on my PSP. Just because the school computers corrupt stuff all the time. And yes, that is overkill. :)

Talk about me. I'm awesome.

Rewriting somebody else's paper IS PLAGIARISM. So check your original post on that. Also, if you can't spell "British" you are highly unlikely to get through their high schools.

FURTHER, you say:

If that's true, you should have no problem at all spelling things properly, using punctuation and capitals properly just like the AUP of the forum says you will agree to do when you sign up. Being a top student (who doesn't do their work until a couple days beforehand, who asks a video game forum to do their homework for them, and who thinks rewriting another paper is A-OK) all this should come easy to you so I'll end this message now.

Its my phones keyboard not picking up double taps (or spaces, or even the right letter mostly).
And i agree, it was left stupidly late which i should never have allowed, but sometimes, s*** happens and you end up in hospital for two weeks and miss all the preliminary exams. So hey, the simple fact that Im STILL at the top prooves something, right?
And if picking an entire piece of writing apart, changing every aspect of tone, style, word choice, sentance structure, paragraphing, imagery, maybe opinion and obviously font doesnt remove the crime, then what does? Its more like research into similar ideas. Like Porsch bought one of the first Nissan GT-R's, but they havent made a front engined giant killer with an insane gearbox thats exactly the same... As with me, i steal something brilliantly copyable, but by the end, no one can tell. Its just an idea i take away... a not quite writeable aspect of a good essay that isnt part of the words.
I decided to ask a VG forum because it is possibly one of the less hostile places for something like this to be brought up. And anyway, my essay is now done, with nothing more illegal than a bit of advice from the people on here, so nothing was really violated.

It's not plagiarism, it's intertextuality. :p

I'm pretty sure a dissertation would have to be a bit longer than 2,000 words.

EDIT: I really need to read all of the posts before mine before opening my mouth. Anyways, good luck on your research paper. :)

"Go write <something> about <anything>" topics were always the worst for me to get started on. Give me a topic and an argument and I can run with it.

Why not write an essay on how retarded the title is? An 'international civil war' is basically a 'war'.

I do not see the correlation between the (tongue placed firmly in cheek) acknowledgment that essay writing is influenced by the subconscious absorption of other texts, and being sexually promiscuous. Please enlighten me. :)

Allot of blah blah blah, and self-elevation. Bottom line is still the same. Do your own work.
