This is just ridiculous. I know for a fact that APC is a useless, clueless company that does not make any parts for drift cars. But to let them plaster their name and logo on a drift car is going too far.

This is also unfair for the companies that put dedicated time and effort into making these cars perform the way they do.

No, all they have to do is pay the driver money to put their sticker on the car. That's it. Did Pepsi help tune that EVO 8 being given away? No, they didn't.

Um, what were you expecting? Do you think any league is going to get anywhere without outside sponsership?

I just don't want it to be like NASCAR, where the car's main sponsor is Tide or Cheerios:lol: In all seriousness, however, keep the outside sponsorship to a minimum.

BTW: Many of these cars are created by tuning shops with LOTS of money. Thus the need for outside sponsorship is quite negligible. All it does is lead people to buy ****ty products from ****ty companies like APC and have them think that Altezzas will help increase downforce.

So capitalizing on a fad is bad thing?

You drift AND you're a communist?! Damn, what a terrible combination.

1) I don't drift, I have never drifted, nor will I ever drift in the future.

2) I am not a communist. And please enlighten me as to why I am a communist, oh mighty Klostrophobic.

No, I don't believe that a company should be able to capitalize upon something that they have not actively been involved in. All APC has done is payed **** loads of money to get their name plastered all over the place. That, in my opinion, is corporate laziness.

so doing somthing automatically means tuning oh, ok.

the money that the sponsership makes PAYS for the tuning which alows them to become more competative. i see a alpine sticker on the car also, do you think they came along and gave a hand in tuning the car...... NO

you DO realize that many of these drift cars are payed for by their respective shops, right? They don't need lazy a** companies to pay for things. Those stickers are more for the benefit of the companies that put them there than the drivers and teams themselves.

Here's my take on the APC issue taken from another thread:

Actually, APC is serious about drifting. Supposedly they're trying to change their image and that's one of the reason they've been funding Team Orange. They're paying for all of Team Orange's expenses, track fees, shipping fees, driver salaries, etc, etc. So if you've seen them at a demo, you have APC to thank for it.

They're also releasing a whole new line of "Drift Spec" parts, which sounds "ricey", but it's actually made with the help of the owner of K-Style as well as some other well known and credible japanese drifters. From what I've heard, it might even just be rebadged K-Style products (which would be awesome). I've also heard that APC is going to be selling Kei Office suspension and MSports body parts. These are all very good things, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see how things go.

All types of racing requires money, And its always eaiser to spend a sponsors money before you spend your own. Especially if you want to out class the rest of your competition.
Honestly I dont see why you've gotten worked up over about a sponsor being associated with racing series, exhibition series or cars in general. Would you have cared if Playboy was sponsoring that car instead of APC?

And how exactly has this been going, might I ask?

From what I've heard recently, APC is supposed to be releasing some Msports body kits with APC labels on them fairly soon. Whether they'll cost as much as regular Msports kits or if they'll sell for a lot less, I don't know. We'll just have to wait and see.

My take is that NismoSkyline jumped on something he didn't know much about, because he said that ^^^, if the tuner shops didn't need "Lazy *** Companies to pay for things" they wouldn't take their money and post their stickers on their cars

..Hokay. if APC has a sticker on a car.. and they didn't contribute to the car, thus making it suck.. then what is your problem? Were you mad when everything was advertised with Pokemon, too? I obviously has boosted sales, or I doubt they'd spend the money to have their logo there. And if no one has mentioned it yet, APC is coming out with a "Drift-Spec" line for the drifters. Or whatever...

It's either that or no drifting, NISMO, you decide.

No drifting then, if that is what it will be reduced to. It's no skin off my back (I don't like drifting THAT much).

And I'm not trying to be one of those people who believe that drifting is the "pure automotive sport" that we Americans are going to ruin.

I just think its kind of stupid that companies will pay heaps of money just to get a sticker on a car because people might buy their product.

The issue here is not exactly drifting, it's sponsorship. I apologize for the poor title of this thread.

All the sites that have popped up that feature drifting is another sign. Especially the articles in magazines that cater to "the auotomotive import blah-blah lifestyle."

I don't understand very well what all of this is about, but from what I seen, this topic is basically about a company that (in one person's view) provides a sticker to slap onto some car just to get some exposure and get people to buy their stuff. Well to me, it sounds like this. Take the NFL for example, alright? Nike is on the footballs of the football players who play on the field. The sneakers the athletes wear- Nike. The helmets? Nike. And then someone comes along and slaps on (you're going to be like "What the hell?" about this one) an APC sticker because they want to advertise their products to as big of an aduience as possible. Or even better, why not put APC and APC text advertising on Wall Street and all the TVs in Times Square? Or, how about APC on the baseballs that the Chicago Cubs or the Houston Astros would be using. Put on APC stickers... oh what the hell, all over GTPlanet! The thing is that if people see a sponsor as long as people are interested in that product. But I think if a company is going to throw around, I'm sure the company will have the finances to back it up even if it appears on the side of a car or even on the underside of a rear spoiler. And I agree with you. I think drifting won't be like NASCAR in terms of sponsorship. I primarily think that people can be diffrentiated by more than just their sponsors (for example, telling it is Dale Earnhardt Jr. because of either the #8 or Budweiser).

I think regardless of the quality of the product, I think APC is trying to come up with parts and to better expose themselves regardless. So I guess to say things less critically, give them a chance.

thank god my car is not japanese. i forsaw the sinking of the ship 3 years ago. too many people are stupid in this world for the "scene" to stay clean.

atleast initial D isnt on MTV........ yet.
