my friend found it on the skyline
I understand that this is an ancient symbol that is not associated with the war. But it is unusual to find in GT5.

It's Kanji.. it's pronounced "Ban" or more commonly "Manji" from memory*, so no it's not "Unusual" at all.

*I'm still really atrocious at Kanji, I'm much more fluent with the verbal language

That symbol is common in many asian cultures (I think it's originally a Hindu symbol).
A similar cross can also be found on some ancient rune stones in Sweden, although that has nothing to do with the Hindu cross.

The word swastika is derived from Hindu, meaning "to be good". It was a popular symbol around the world in the beginning of the 20th century, companies like Coca-Cola were keen on using it in advertisements because of it's positive associations.

It was also the symbol of the Finnish Air Force from 1918 (that's before Hitler and the Nazi party) to 1945 and then again for some divisions from 1958 to present time.

The dominant present view in the western world is that it's a symbol of evil, because the Nazi used it. In Asia it's still a positive symbol and in Finland you can even today see the air force using the swastika. Not because they're evil, but because the symbol has a different meaning there.

you guys want to go way in on the topic of symbolism? Youtube search Michael Tsarion, and you will enter an entirely new world. Your awareness and perspective will be raised to a high degree, and who doesn't wish to have higher awareness? I highly recommend the works of this man, for anyone wishing to gain some very deep knowledge and understanding.

Yep like others gave said it is a Japanese letter. That's also how people have them in their comment box on PSN. They use the Japanese keyboard

If I remember correctly that is also the symbol that is used on maps to denote (usually) Shinto (plus other religious) temples.

Also, Make note that the Nazi use of the Swastika also involve it being askewed slightly meaning it stands on it's corner not on a side.

At the end of the day - all the talk of the Nazi and other use of the symbol is off topic.

The symbol is on the car because it is Kanji; everything else is a moot point.

Yeah just like the talk when someone thought the Ferrari 559's were demonic pentagons

The talk about the Nazi version is to show the difference between them. So people can't/won't cry it's racist.

Some Hindus put this symbol on their doorsteps/thresholds at the entry to their homes.

IIRC, it is "the wheel of life".

i live in an area of North Carolina with a huge population of Indian immigrants and you see it painted on the hood of their cars all the time. No big deal. It clearly has nothing to do with Nazis.
