After spending some time with the tv (not that I am a freak that doesnt watch TV, but I prefer to spend time with my PS2 or the internet), I got the chance to see an episode from the Real World, in which this melodramatic girl was pissed because she had heard the word "******" to describe a crocodile in one of the many vacation tours they take. So, she was talking about the discrimination against Black people that still continues to exist.

Now I think. There was this ****ty movie ("Beverly Hill's most wanted" I think) in which this white hip-hop-wannabe kid was trying to get more in touch with the ghetto. In my opinion this movie was a total piece of trash, not only because the actors plain sucked but because the whole plot was a total crap. Isnt this discrimination against white people?

Then, we have this thing about only black people being the ones able to call themselves as "*****" or ******". Every other people that is not black calling them with these names is an automatic discrimation. But black people are able to say "whitty" or some other discriminatory word.

Another thing that pisses me off, is when we come to use the correct "hate"-free word to describe African American people. I know that "negro" is a banned word, no problem with me, but we cant also call them black, or colored?. Now wtf are they? Is is some sort of cynism or what?

My final take is that now it is bad for us to discriminate African American people but it is ok for they to discriminate or use hate words against us?

First off, who the hell calls a crocodile a nigger?:confused: That just makes absolutely zero sense to me.

Second. I've found that when they're talking to one another in a friendly manner they'll use the word "nigga." If they're pissed at the other person they'll use the word "nigger." And unless you're also black, or extremely good friends with them, you shouldn't call them by either.

They're just people. Nobody wants to be singled out because of their skin color. They don't want to be referred to as that black guy just as much as I don't want anyone referring to me as that white guy.

It's not okay for anyone to discriminate against another person. I get pissed if someone of a different race calls me a cracker, whitey, or some other crap. Discrimination/racism sucks. If I get pissed at someone of a different skin color, I'm not resorting to racist names, I'm just going to call 'em a b*tch.

This post probably makes no sense. I just got off of work, and am very tired. If it's in anyway offense to anyone, I apologize. I'm sorry for letting the three 'n' words appear. I only did it to let you all know what I was talking about. I don't use words like that IRL, and apologize for doing it in here.

If I can't call them ******s then don't call me whitey, snowflake, or cracker.

They are all extremely offensive.

It was the Real World from New Orleans. The crew went to take a small vacation trip to a natural park, and there was this guy who was leading them, and saw this crocodile and said something like "On your right side, you have the crocodile ****** something"
 
Tercel_driver, you should have seen the "Boston Publc" episode where part of the plot was how this (white) teacher started to delve into how blacks can use the word and when whites use it it's just plain racism. Though he wasn't doing it in a racist way, he simply wanted to find why that was while getting the class in it of course. Very cool episode except it never really solved that problem, can't blame the writers really because there isn't a solution.

Basically, that word has been paved over hundreds of years as a racist term, and just because a white guy approaches a black guy and greets him "What's up n*gga?" it still isn't going to come off as a friendly connotation. It's a very touchy word when used by white people and will be for years to come I'd say.

I've also noticed white people have been taken some crap lately from black people, in a way it's only fair since their race got hammered on for some 200+ hundred years, then again it can't get out of hand with ridiculous "rules" such as the ones you mentioned.
I'm just going to live with it for now.

Exactly, the same **** happens with women and gays, they get so obssesed with not being discriminated against they end up having a prejudice against other ppl too, I cant help been a white anglo male just as they cant help being gay, I'm not going to hold it against them but I dont see why I should be called a homophobe or racist or anything of that sort just because I choose not to hang around ppl of minority groups or whatever, also if anyone called me a cracker or anythign liek that my hand would be almost as sore as their face.

I call black people my *****s all the time. Hell, I even call white people crackers.

I get away with it, too.

But I agree if black people don't want to be called racist names, they shouldn't call white people racist names either.

This isn't true. Many so-called minorities cling to their race or ethnicity. First and formost they characterize themselves as a part of some group that perceives itself as being oppressed. I guess it gives them something to complain about.

It's not okay for anyone to discriminate against another person.

Ascribing a name to someone based on some characteristic that they have is a classic case of pigeonholing. It's also the primary vehicle by which ingroup/outgroup behaviour is manifested.

This is the reason why it's OK for a black person to use the 'n' word, but not a white person: the black person is in the group that is described by the word, therefore it is not discriminatory. A white person is out of the group. This means that all the rules of behaviour change, and it becomes discriminatory.
 
God what a dreadful subject,..... some times I wish I were in the minority so I could try and rationalize why they percieve things the way they do. I'm sure its that same circumstances as in all households.

Anyone who was born in the last 30 years most likely has racist parents or family memebers that they had to listen too growing up. I guess it all boils down to how a person absorbs that particular insight,.... myself, even at the age of 10 I was wondering what the hell minorites ever did to me,.... even after leaving a family gathering with a bunch of racist uncles.

In a nutshell,. it boils down to human character. We're all human,.... 50% of us realize this and accept everyone as equals,.. the other 50% have their heads in their parents (who grew up in segregation) asses.....

"Niger" (pronounced nai-jer) is the Latin for "black", and it is applied to varies organisms. Pinus niger (yes, really) for example, is the Black Pine.

The guide who pronounced it wrong is clearly an idiot. The woman who took offence at it is clearly also an idiot.

I myself have usually considered a ****** to be an ignorant person, no matter what race/skin colour they may be.
 
A black man called my friend a cracker for no particular reason and my friend unleashed his tongue and many racial slurs flew from his mouth. And it was funny.
 
its easy for ppl to discriminate against minority groups... but ppl seem to turn a blind eye to discrimination against "majority groups". What is it? is it that there are so many of them that they dont have feelings???

isn't this whole affirmitive action thing kind of a blatant example of unconstitutionalism. Yes i know slavery broke the "every man was created equally" thing in the constitution, but making it easier for african americans to get into colledge is not the solution. It just seems extremely hipocritical to have this law made in a time when most laws were being designed to be completely "P.C." and fair to all races. Instead of making it easier for african americans to get into colledge we should look into fixing the problem at the roots by giving schools populated by minorities special programs and better funding along with better facilities.

People of color, any color are all people. Even the assholes are people. Doesn't mean I like them any more or any less.

If you are so intellectually bereft that you can only come up with insults based on race, religion, nationality, or region. You must be lacking in several areas, most notably brain cells.
My idea, let's all get together and make 2004 the year we completely ignore or marginalize ignorant people. If they can't be made to see their ignorance. Screw 'em.

As an aside, I had a friend in the Navy, who after traveling all over the world, was suprized to find out that my chocolate a** bleeds red blood, just like his vanilla a**.
It's a long story, but the point of it is when you start teaching kids to be racially ignorant. It just leads to bigger issues of ignorance as they grow up.
