Ok. GTPlanet, I have a bit of a problem. This problem is pissing me off to no end.

Ok. So, I talk to computer savvy people, and I come to the assumption that all I have is 3 PCI slots.

Well, I look at intel's site and for my chipset, the D845GRG, and it says I HAVE AN AGP SLOT!

Well, closer inspection doesn't show it to me.

So, I run Everest Home Edition. It says the same thing.

Here's a screen. I need to find a pic of the mobo to concur.

I just looked exactly where it should be and found a bunch of silver dots and what looked like 3 holes. I bet Gateway took the AGP Bus off. Cheap bastards.

Well, I can buy an AP Mobo that supports what I have now.

The slot circled in blue is AGP. If Gateway somehow took the slot off, then you got gypped.

The image that you posted shows that you have a micro-ATX sized board (usually goes in small form factor pc), and they often don't use all the features of their chipsets, as for example they may not have all the PCI or the AGP slots you could have with an ATX board. If you have a full size or a mid tower, it's a bit of a shame though, it must look a bit empty when you open it.

For example we had (very cool) Dell SX270 and SX280 at my last job, and the only things that we could upgrade with them were the hard disk, cpu and memory, which wasn't an issue since they were used in an office. You have to be careful with these things when you're buying a new one.

Can't you just open the case and check?

Anyway, if your PC is manfactured at Dell, Gateway, etc. It's more than likely that there is no AGP slot. They probably get their motherboards from Abit, Asus and such to ship them without an AGP slot to save money. In leiu of an AGP slot/graphics they intergrate the graphics into the chipset. (In your case, Intel D845GRG) In order to keep manfacturing costs down. So, it's a 90% chance or so that if you open your case, there will be no AGP slot. Although if you were to buy the exact Motherboard from newegg for example, it would come with an AGP slot. Although it wouldn't exactly be pragmatic to buy another one.

Suggestion: If you cant shell out the money for a Decent prebuilt or custom, You're going to have to settle with a PCI Video card which I think is what you're planning to buy anyway.

I am considering upgrading the CPU and mobo soon. I will probably save a bunch of money and buy some things.

Or just save for a whole new comp.

And yes. I knew what AGP was and all that.

I found where it should be on the board and where it should have been installed.

Gateway just didn't do it.

Which is gay considering we paid $1200.

Oh well.

You should get a new case, too. You can't shove an ATX motherboard into a mini-ATX case without breaking anything.

Who calls it the Mobo?

1337 users do. I don't know about you but, it gets a little tiring typing out motherboard every time you want to talk about it.
