I had a lot of fun with the game over but recently it's felt like a chore. Then today my PS3 froze during yet another B-spec run and I thought about just how much time it has spent over the past month or so just doing stuff for the sake of progression rather than proper enjoyment.

After rebooting and making sure everything was running fine I went out for a real life drive and when I got back I had two cravings; the original GT1 and Midnight Club.

The bottom line is I've been playing because I felt obliged to, it's stopped being fun. So as much as I'd like to own ever car in the game I think I'm going to give it a break.

Cool story dude, thanks for sharing.

Yeah who cares about owning all the cars. Just play for fun and buy the cars you actually want. It's a game bro

Not everyone enjoys the game. I haven't been away from it for more than 36 hours at a time since November 24. I'm loving it and there's no end in sight for me.

Enjoy your time off, it might help you out.

I rarely play outside of Arcade after reaching level 32 and feeling like I was just grinding to level up. Now I only race several days a week and not every day, sometimes just the Super GT championship or grand valley endurance.

Online is the only way to keep it fresh. I am getting into doing mild tuning on realy cars e.g evo lancers and going around tsukuba. since my net has been down. Can't wait to get back online.

This makes perfect sense I feel the same way. I will be continuing to play for a while but only because I have commited to running a few leagues with our Clan.

The RubberBand Grind has saved this game for me! I can now just play online whenever I want and if I ever need a car for online racing I can afford it straight away.

Even better I can concentrate on playing F1 2010 on my XBox while my PS3 Rubber Band Grinds me more cash.

I've given up on progression and have just been grinding credits and cycling the UCD to pick up some oldies or rare cars. I supe them up and race them online... then go back to grinding/UCD until I find something else that intrigues me.

When a game as big as GT5 dwindles down to this kind of a routine, perhaps a wake-up call is appropriate indeed - but allow me to be the first to credit this kind of persistence with a lack of social life.

but allow me to be the first to credit this kind of persistence with a lack of social life.

LOL I've been married for 12 years and have 2 Children.....my social life died a long time ago.

To Me, Gaming is a hobby...GT5 is a Chore, but GT5 online is good enough to keep me happily racing my friends now that the RubberBand Grind has been invented.

The only 2 things I enjoy in GT5 are: racing online in stock cars with my friends (who are exceptional gentleman racers) & just having a drive on certain tracks in certain cars. Pretty much everything else in the game sucks from my point of view, I stopped playing the offline game a while back because I find it mind numbingly boring & tedious, never touched b-spec, never will & don't care at all about exp points.

My advice is just use GT5 to enjoy whatever it is you enjoy doing with it, there's isn't any real pressure to complete the game is there! You don't have to do every event, for instance I myself hate the idea of endurance races & I'm never gonna even attempt to do one period.

Why are the forums now littered with little pointless threads like this? "My GT story" by A.nyone.... This isn't Facebook you know.

Look at me, I may or may not be playing and/or enjoying GT5 anymore...

Fascinating.

I think the problem is - you are perfectionist :) you just have to do it all just right :) I know whats that like, been there done that :)

But seriously, I too have resigned myself to buying new cars and time-attacks, although I've started to play online more. Fun if you can find a good room:tup:

It's such a chore I actually rather do my university assignment than play it! And that aint me, I usually do it the day before but this game so so lifeless I'd rather write essays!

While it's a bit pointless... I do understand where the OP is coming from... I guess it just hasn't gotten that bad for me. Whenever I feel bored with it I throw another game in. However I always get the craving to go back to racing within a day or two. At the very least I play once a week for the seasonals...

Get Saints Row 2. It will remind you what fun is.

Theres nothing like watching your homies beat a stripper with a baseball bat and shoot down an FBI chopper while driving a Countach analogue.

For me the single player game is really just a mind numbing chore, same as it's always been with GT. They really need to work on the single player game, give it an actual focus, an actual sense of progression which equates to far more than just levelling up and getting more credits (both of which happen at an incredibly slow rate, combined with some ridiculous car prices). They could really make the single player game into something worth playing, rather than having a completely disparate set of events, which you can enter massively overpowered cars into to just run away with a win, instead focus it, really build up and make sure you're in comparable cars. I'd love to play a proper race weekend, you know, practice on a track, learn the braking points, then qualify and then have a real meaningful race, one where I might not always be guaranteed to win. I can do this now, but it's not enforced and it should be. With GT5 it's all content and no structure, it literally has not progressed one jot since GT1 and that's a bit sad in face of the competition. Competition which balls up the handling and maybe goes over the top in some elements of presentation, but competition which can at least structure a fun game out of it.

All I want to do is go into practice mode, in my favourite cars on my favourite tracks, and if I can race against fair decent racers online, no one going backwards or using the FGT all the time. My main issue right now is that playing the game seems almost futile as the credits I'd receive for doing anything, even some of the endurance races, is pitiful, and I basically I want the F10, I want some of the other nice and overly expensive cars in this game but as I can see it it will literaly take me months of grinding to get anywhere.

B-Spec is so uninvolving I don't see why it has been included apart from giving people a chance to set their PS3 on autopilot and grind for credits, which is really not what this game should be about. The seasonal events were massively heling me get close to buying some of the cars I really want to play around with, but now it seems it's back to rubbish amounts of credits and I made the mistake of blowing 4 mil. on the FGT in the hopes of grinding Indy Dream Car or something, but now I don't really have much interest in doing that as it will still take several hours to get all those credits back and more just so I can buy the one or two cars left I really want. I payed my money, I wish they'd just release a DLC Path for a nominal fee to unlock all the cars, I'd be very happy with that, that's how I want to play, the main game is so utterly appalling that it's no fun to actually play anyway, so just give me the content in the game, please!

Oh yeah absoulutely i can see where the OP is coming from, i'm always just miffed as to why people feel the need to share such things.
He already said early on he only played "for the sake of progression" - that say's it all to me right there.

I don't play for progression, I play because i want to drive cars i otherwise wouldn't be able to and to see what they are/aren't capable of, i play because i LOVE cars and driving in general. I play because i LOVE coming home from work an being able to virutally hotlap the nurburgring.

If i bought Hannah Montana Rock Goddess (fictional game) and all i wanted to do was to progress to level 50 so i could and unlock some blonde hair extensions, then yeah i would find it completely boring too.
Bottom line is, not EVERY game is for you, some games you aren't going to enjoy, but wtf tell me and the world about it? 98% of people couldn't give a flying toss if your bored TBH.

I agree with the OP in that the game can get hard to simply just have fun in. I could care less about the XP, its the credits I care about. And unfortunately, if you want to enjoy the game fully, you needs lots and lots of grinding, and thats where the game becomes a chore. I also love racing online, but unfortunately the prizes there are just so little.

I think that's purely so you can't have all the cars at once and to make you appreciate them more when you have them. In real life you can't go on a 2.5 million shopping spree to buy 3 lambo's and 4 ferrari's, you actually have to put in the hard yards to reap the rewards at the end ( much like in real life ) I

It's something not everyone appreciate's about GT, I however love the fact your forced to save for exotic / rare cars.

There are HUNDREDS of cars you can drive without grinding, you just want to have the best , fastest ones right away without earning them or even proving your capable of driving them.

There are also plenty of other games availiable if you just want to buy the fastest lamborghini and put it into a wall because you have learnt how to handle 300hp let alone 600hp .

I wouldn't mind if I was actually having "fun" making money, but like I said, it turns into a chore with all that grinding. I would love for PD to give us more money for online races. Why is it that I can make a 100k in 5 min at the American Championship against stupid AI but I make 1/10th that against real opponents at a more difficult track lasting 5 times longer?

The more i think about it, the more i tend to agree. I think it just boils down to the lack of different / challenging single player races.
I take your example on board as i do that same Am Championship for 100k in 5 laps only to do my 1st endurance and get 160k for 60 laps, i actually couldn't believe my eyes when i saw the prize amount, did they forget another zer0?

The online prizemoney is lower IMO to prevent people from collaborating online to get 20million etc.. I can't think of any other reason so avoid such little credits vs A-Spec.

I wish PD would add matchmaking to maybe try to avoid that, so friends can't just sit in a room and farm.

+1 to matchmaking. It is coming apparently just not confirmed when, couldn't friends just make a private to lounge to "farm" in though?
This has surely got to be the reason for the online rewards, if i can beat 15 tards all trying to crash me out on every corner possible then i deserve a bloody good reward.

The thing is, I don't see how you can farm it though with the current system. I mean the people still have to complete the same amount of laps, and the only things that might be rigged are positions, so maybe PD can close the gap in rewards between finish positions.

I don't see how either, certainly can't think of any ways to get $ faster than just racing for 1st normally.
Payout is dependent on laps, track length etc i take it?

I only mentioned it because i can't see any other reason for the lower online payouts. I'm stumped.

Ya, it is based on how "long" you race for the most part. Probably a lot having to do with distance covered.
