GT4genius or GTP_...
I started this because it seems like an interesting sport that i know very little about, and we can use this to get behind our own countries teams, wohooo Ireland!!! :sly:

So just basically post whatever you know about this sport in general.
I seen this weekends China GP when the Indian team won their first ever race. It was a feature race, what does this mean and what is the other race??

PS if there is a similar thread dont get angry with me for posting this, i looked for something similar but couldn't find anything!

The Sprint race is shorter in length and doesnt have any pitstops while the Feature Race is longer and has pitstops. Grid positions are taken from the four qualifing sessions, the first two decide the grid for the sprint race while the other two are for the feature.

I follow this more than I do F1 due to the fact that there is more passing and is less political and Black Beauty is flying :sly:(Team NZ) also the NZ round is coming soon at Taupo. Cant Wait!!!

A question for you: What are the order the races are run during a A1 weekend?

I did catch a bit of A1 racing action when it was run during last season, maybe I should give this another view if I get the chance. Also, I remember them having a round at Laguna Seca a year or two ago, but I heard something about the attendance for that race not being quite as large. Kinda hard to get interest in the area for a series that doesn't run during the usual months.:indiff:

Sprint race first then the Feature race, if you can find a way to watch it i recommend you do

Thanks for the info. :)👍

And I found out recently that SPEED has A1 on their programming schedule. I'll look at their schedule later on to see when it next airs.

So A1GP is this weekend unfortunalty its on at roughly the same time as my step-sisters 21st and theres also a really good hot rod show at Kumeu this weekend so in short i'll have to record it and watch it later, I'm keen to see how the new turn at the end of the straight pans out for passing. This has been implemented due to the lack of passing that happened last year.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the new Turn 12 pans out as well. Last year there just wasn't enough passing for my liking.

Come on Jonny, give me a birthday present to be proud of ;)

The NZ guy is starting first and the Irish guy is starting in the top 10. Its starting in a half an hour for those that are lucky enough to watch it live. I'll have to wait to watch it tomorrow at 2.

Great sprint race for Team NZ, But for the start in the Feature it could of been a double victory for Johnny. Good to see Canada do well again and if it wasnt for Ireland having to change their front wing then they could of been on the podium, now only two weeks until Eastern Creek in Sydney

This thread has been very quiet! Did anyone see the Mexican race, Ireland won apparently (wohoo), was it a proper win or did most others crash out or retire, I sadly missed it.

It was a proper win gained through really quick pitstops although the second place car got a drive through penalty to make it easier. Still a good win though.

I've just seen the Chineese feature race. Good win for USA, but Switzerland would've won had they not of had the gear problems. And the best part IMO was Ireland's solid 3rd place and, I'm not being biased here but, they had the best overtaking move of the race on, I think it was India.

No big incidents or great drives but a good enough race. My driver of the day would be the Swiss driver, he managed 5th even without 2nd and 3rd gear at times.

imo the driving talent is just not good enough in this series to attract major attention

Hmmm, I was going to object to this post, but find myself agreeing.
As a competition I can't see it ever being on par with F1 or Indycars. It should be seen more as comparable to GP2 or Formula 3 where good young drivers can have a chance to shine and go on to bigger things.
Case in point, Nico Hulkenburg who won the intial competion being taken on by Williams.
It does however give countries such as us here in New Zealand a chance to see open wheel racing at level that we otherwise wouldn't have, and being national teams also gives it the added dimension of following and supporting your country.
Anyhow Ferrari must believe it has it's place, and a future, having signed on to provide the engines for the series. So, if its your thing, Go A1GP !!

what do u guys think of of the new car?

No, you're quite right.

Nelson Piquet Jr, Christian Fittipaldi, Tomas Enge, Timo Scheider, Adrian Sutil, Sebastien Vettel, Alex Yoong, Alex Premat, Nicholas Lapierre, Katherine Legge, Jos Verstappen, Jeroen Bleekemolen, Thomas Scheckter, Scott Speed, Narain Karthekayan, Franck Montagny, Ralph Firman.

Never heard of them.

Err... in order:
- Piquet: trading on his name. F1 failure.
- Fittipaldi: trading on his name. F1 failure.
- Enge: pretty good in sportscars...
- Scheider: what's he doing kidding himself he can drive a single seater?
- Sutil: might be good, but telling that he's not in a top-line F1 drive.
- Vettel: probably good, but not going to be a world champion.
- Yoong: ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! I expected more from you Famine.
- Premat: I've been disappointed by Premat. Thought he was better than he's turned out being.
- Lapierre: ... and the same goes for Lapierre.
- Legge: I'd love for Katherine to go well, but she really struggled in ChampCar, and is doing same in DTM.
- Verstappen: Single-seater has-been. Should stick to sportscars.
- Bleekemolen: Should stick to 911s. Undoubtedly great in them.
- Scheckter: trading on his name. All-round failure
- Speed: should sue his parents under advertising standards for misleading labelling.
- Karthekayan: Flashes of brilliance, but I'm saddened that he never made it.
- Montagny: had a good run at the weekend, but is finished in single seaters
- Firman: See Yoong. Spending the Van Diemen cash.

Aside from the Lapierre/Premat pair (try saying that when you're drunk), none of the supposed stars have won the series, which is always telling. If you're an up-and-comer, you absolutely have to win everything. The fact is that A1GP has not attracted star names. And of the juniors, few have been sufficiently impressive as to tweak the eyelids of the snoozing public.

It's interesting that you missed out Neel Jani from your list - sometime F1 tester, struggling across the pond, but definitely one of the talents of A1GP. And also, you missed out the guy who -for me - is a real star, Nico Hulkenberg.

Nevertheless, it's a bunch of guys (and gal) who have at one time or another been considered good enough to have seat time (in some cases only testing) in F1 - the ultimate in motorsport. I've missed off a few F1 testees (fnarr) because I simply don't know about them, and quite a few of the other drivers are touring car or GT car drivers in their spare time.

The ones I've picked are all names with which motorsportists ought to be familiar. It's not like A1GP is packed with nobodies.

There are only a handful of drivers in A1GP who have shown true talent and only two of them were really consistent.

Alex Premat
Nicolas Lappiere
Nico Hulkenberg
Jonny Reid

To me, Nico Hulkenberg looked like the next Lewis Hamilton when I watched A1GP.

Hmmm, kind of my point. You are judging whether they are good drivers by what ELSE they have done, and yes there are some good drivers in your list. But Indycar and Nascar drivers aren't judged by whether they ever tested for F1. If they are good, you know they are good from the level of those competitions alone.
I stand by my comment that I don't think A1GP is there yet, and at the moment is better compared to GP2 or F3000 where young talented drivers have a chance to come through the ranks.
Don't get me wrong I'm a Johnny Reid fan, but the likes of him and Nico Hulkenburg will only be judged to be great drivers if they go on to bigger things than A1GP, just like you look at the good GP2 drivers and know the real test of their skill will be if and when they make it into F1.

So in one fell swoop the reputations of every A1GP driver has been tarnished because they haven't made it in F1. Graham Rahal drove for Team Lebanon for a couple of races then appears in IRL winning at St Petersberg, also you're saying if a driver hasnt made it into F1 he hasnt got talent, Case in point Scott Dixon, did one test for Williams, is he talentless? There are many drivers that for one reason or another didnt make it into Farcial One yet are actually talented.

Another point Well done to Team Switzerland, Guess Team NZL is Bridesmaid again

A1 will be going to the Gold Coast, Australia next season.:D The old Indy 300 event.

That's pretty old news mate, with the new season in gear whats everyones opinion on the racing this season.

So far it looks like a Team Ireland benefit at the current point of the season with Adam Caroll carring the momentum he and the team had at the end of last season and with Team NZ making a silly choice at taupo having a driver that has never driven on the track let alone a track anywhere in the north island driving while Johnny Reid was stuck with commentating and doing a couple of GT3 cup enduros while Van Der Drift was left floundering anyway enough of my rambling
