A10 World Series - a revived A1 Grand Prix?

As we all know, A1GP died a rather inglorious death a while ago, collapsing under its own weight of financial troubles. However, a website A10 World Series has become known recently, though it's just a countdown timer for now. Furthermore, a blog post on the A1GP directly implies that the series might be making a comeback. The countdown timer lasts until some time tomorrow - about 10am GMT tomorrow - which is right in the middle of the first day of the Autosport International.

Thoughts?
 
I still unsure if A10 is related to A1. :rolleyes:

Exciting news. I just hope they allow sponsors on to the cars as well as a nations flag and colours. Also my nation are current champions.:D
 
How come its so close and almost no news? Don't think NZ is competing though, nothing about it on TV and definitely no coverage. I'll see if I can watch it online, might be something good to watch until the f1 season starts. BTW, what exactly is that timer for? Is there actually a race in that time, or something else?

Because if the A10 World Series is a revived A1 Grand Prix, it's not going to be an announcement of "Hey, we're back on for 2011! We start racing in two weeks at Portimao!". It would be an announcement of the re-launch, probably stating what they intend to do and how they're going to address the problems that hamstrungtheir predecessors. I'd be very surprised if A10 intends to race in 2011, and if they do, then it probably won't be until October-November at the very earliest.

And if some teams have signed on to re-compete in A10, there may be a confidentiality agreement that prevents them from talking about it until the organisers allow them to. They no doubt want to go for maximum impact an annouce it all at once at the Autosport International; it won't do them any good if everyone knows about it a month in advance.

But they'll also be competing with the launch of the Renault R31 livery, which I believe is scheduled for today. It might only be a livery launch, but Mercedes unveiled their 2010 livery on a Brawn BGP-001 about this time last year and it got major coverage (possibly because it was Schuamcher's first public appearance for the team). But the R31 livery is going to be unveiled with a full contingent of Lotus-backed cars. I wouldn't be surprised to see an R30 in R31 dress, plus Indycars and GT cars and so on. That's a major event, and one that threatens to overshadow the A10 annoucement, so naturally they'll want to keep things quiet until the big reveal.
 
I see. Wonder what the countdown is for then. I don't think it'll be a good Idea for them to start too late into the year, as pretty much every other motor sport season is on. Also, I'm confused about the Renault thing. Isn't this the livery for the car? It looks like a modern f1 car and has Pirelli tyres.

That's a mock-up of the livery. I don't know know who made it. It was kind of like the one that was released when Mercedes purcahsed Brawn; an image was released of the BGP-001 in silver and turquoise. The Renault livery that gets unveiled will be the final version that appears on the 2011 cars. Probably with new sponsors.

But this is getting off-topic. This thread is for discussing the A10 World Series and the possibility that it is a revived A1GP. There's no real problem with having the series start late in the year; the original A1GP series often began late in the year and finished early in the next. GP2 Asia has done it, as well.

Wow, all this offsetting is very good at killing any interest I had in the series. We had a countdown timer that revealed an announcement ... of an announcement. And now that announcement is announcing another announcement.

Bollocks, that's what it is.
 
They must have the same marketing department as Polyphony Digital :D
 
The engine doesn't sound too bad, kind of like a budget version of a formula 1 engine, which I suppose it is. Now we have to wait till next week to find out what, the size of the tyres?
 
Strange that there's no North American race. Although the Central America round(s) will probably be held in Mexico. Unless there's a high-quality racing circuit - like FIA Grade-2 - in Central America that I'm unaware of. I can't see them building a circuit especially for this series.
 
I'm going to guess the races will be touring car style sprint races as 20 seems a bit much for a brand new series.
 
I like how they say Oceania instead of Australia. There are basically only 2 countries here, so hopefully there will be a race in New Zealand. Probably miles away in Taupo, but I can live with that.

You have to laugh at their way of keeping us interested, but at least they actually give us some information.

I loved that track and was annoyed when the rumours surfaced that it was going to be back on the F1 calendar never materialised. I remember when I was 5 and came back from school to find my dad playing this on our amiga. He'd picked the Mexico circuit, let me have a go and tried not to laugh as I crashed almost immediately.

I miss that track. The trouble is, it's not the same track anymore. The Peraltada was the one truly great corner on this track and it's now been gimped.

Didn't realise it wasn't the same track anymore... Well that sucks. I knew they had used different layouts for different series, but always assumed that the original track was still there. Another one bites the dust...

And I have great memories of the Peraltada... :)

It was time for a change. Personality-wise, Richard Castle is a lot closer to the actual me. And I also write when I have the time.
 
I went to one of the first A1 races in Australia (Eastern Creek) a couple of years ago and wan't impressed. The cars were good but the quality of drivers (aside from a few) were not.:dunce:

The real world cup of motorsport already exists, it's called Formula 1.
 
They just posted up the race formats. Looks pretty intense, all the practice and qualifying one day, then 2 races the next. This all seems like such BS, I'm starting to think it's a hoax or epic scale troll of some sort. Interludes, how did you actually hear about this?
