Season 12 of the premier electric single-seater championship and the last of the Gen3 era.

17 rounds starting today in Sao Paulo and ending at the London double header in August.

10 teams on the grid. McLaren have left, Citroen have joined.

New faces amongst the driver lineup - Felipe Drugovich and Josep Maria Marti. Oliver Rowland defends his title in the Nissan.

Rules and regs including the head to head qualifying battles and the in-race Attack Mode.

Ways to watch

Entertaining race 1 as ever, but also as ever the feeling that the results are based more on lucky timing than actual pace & racecraft. I hope one day they will try racing without the overpowered attack mode boost.

All I know is that some failson in Formula E's marketing department looked at F1's AWS analytics boxes and thought, "How can I make that worse?"

Round 2 today in Mexico City

Good race at Madrid on a proper old school track. Proof that these cars can handle more than the straight/chicane/hairpin street circuits.

Just got my ticket for the Saturday in London. Got a Nissan fan seat whatever that means.... Free cap hopefully! Woohoo

Gen4 car for next year onwards. Getting a bit big and fast for the circuits they've generally used to date. Switching to some permanent race tracks is ever more likely.

Am I right in thinking Excel isn't gonna happen after this last one? I think I saw there were talks about Brands Hatch, Silverstone short track or a similar circuit for the UK for future seasons

Yes, the Excel contract ends this year and the track really isn't suited to the big fast Gen4s. Brands seems most likely as a replacement, it can just about still be marketed as a London race which they want. Some issues apparently with the layouts though.

Soymotor provides extensive coverage of Formula E.

I recently read an interview with Alberto Longo (one of the founders of Formula E) and António Félix Da Costa.

They mentioned that they would like to maintain the initial idea of bringing Formula E to city centers.

But if that isn't possible due to the increasing size and speed of the cars, it's very likely they'll have to look for new circuits to race on.

They said that Jarama and Shanghai are here to stay.

And that circuits like Zandvoort, Brands Hatch and Imola are on their radar.

They also emphasized the importance of visiting USA and India.

They cited the Tokyo circuit as an example, which is too narrow for the Gen4 cars and won't be on the calendar.

São Paulo will continue, but modifications will have to be made.

Another possibility they mentioned was racing on F1 circuits like Miami, Las Vegas or Baku.

Brands would be amazing.

We went to the Jarama race, it was pretty good but slightly ruined by them having a terrible "no cash" policy. You had to load money into an app to buy anything at the track in set amounts, no refunds.

I don't know if this is something they do in Spain regularly but it felt like extortion to be honest. They asked for feedback afterwards and I happily provided it. I have never seen BS like that before at a race track.

The return to Sanya went as expected, terrible track, terrible race. Unfortunately it'll return next year.

As for the rest of the 2027 calendar - the "London" round moves to Brands Hatch, Austin and Zandvoort join the schedule.

Open joins the grid in 2027 (hopefully they rebrand as Vauxhall for the UK round) along with the 2nd Porsche entry.

Very happy to see Brands, my boy loves FE and Brands is much more appealing for me than the Excel. Once they moved everyone indoors I didn't want to go, there was some nice viewing places outside at some passing spots.

One day with a 30-minute sprint and the second day with a 45-minute race? Mmmm.... Any chance of some support races now you are trying to fill these bigger circuits? I would be more in favour of two races per day if you can't have any support.

A friend of mine knows someone at FE so when I recently banged on about how crap Jarama was with the rip off app purchase BS, he ended up texting him with my complaint. Not sure I was totally convinced by his response but it's nice to complain to someone who is involved in the organisation. I really hope we don't see something like that here.

Can't see anything yet about support races.

Brands will have some minor modifications for regen purposes, which I guess is code for an added chicane somewhere (maybe the return of the old one at Dingle Dell). I assume the attack mode activation would be at Druids although it's a bit narrow.

COTA will likely use the Nascar layout and Zandvoort will be a shortened circuit as well.

Ahhh I'm looking forward to the Excel race again now. Guaranteed to be the last indoor race I see in my lifetime (unless they build a grandstand in the Monaco tunnel?)
