For a left hand turn, I'd initiate a drift by steering to the right hard for a second, and then jerk the wheel all the way around to the left. Once all the weight has transferred back (Less than two seconds), I hit the brake (NOT the E-Brake!) and this causes the back end to swing around. Then I begin countersteering, with the wheel turned to the right.
I've actually never managed to successfully start a drift using the e-brake. WHat usually happens is the car will start pointing in the direction I want to turn, but still travels in a straight line.
I've always wondered though...what is the technical definition of drifting? If I oversteer in such a way that the front wheels are pointing straight ahead (Steering wheel is centered), but the car is still turning and negotiating a turn perfectly, is that drifting? Is that really an effective way to corner? All 4 tires are sliding, so I'd imagine all 4 of them would be slowing down the car.
