I think that this isn't racing. It's more like chasing the 1st car and overtaking it. You don't have to defend your position and you always have a rolling start 20 seconds behind the 1st car:crazy: Remember Gran Turismo 2? The AI wanted to overtake, they were agressive. In arcade mode the AI is a bit better than in GT life but anyway in the next update they should tweak the AI difficulty:sly:

Purpose of all races in real life: Get first place.

Purpose of GT5 Seasonal Events: Get first place.

What's the difference? Whether it's a rolling or grid start, you aren't going to be starting the race at the exact same time with the guy in first place. Use a faster/slower car against the AI to make it easier/harder for yourself. It's as simple as that.

OP has a good point, seasonals don't really feel like races, to have a car fast enough to catch up with the car that starts in first place by the time you get to him you'll pass him far to easily not to mention all the cars between you and first place, now I don't mind using a lower powered car to make seasonals a little more sporting but then I find I might get up to second place in the final lap but by that time the leading car has got at least a 10 second gap which is damn near impossible to make up, when I start a seasonal I pick the car based on whether I want to win or have some close racing but at best only get second place.

Then don't race the seasonals. They aren't the only races in the game.

I think with only a few minor tweaks seasonals could be amazing, perhaps slightly more aggressive AI and grid starts with highest pp cars at the back of the grid could eliminate the trade off of winning or having a close race.

Although I agree the seasonals aren't the most interesting, and can be rather frustrating, I wouldn't expect a change of pace any time soon. They've been using this recipe for as long as I can remember, and PD doesn't seem to fond of change. Just gonna have to take what you get for now.

This has been discussed at length in the right section: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=242
You should move it before someone else does.

What we have are handicap races. These type of races are quite popular outside professional racing:

Best Motoring use reverse grid starts in most of their battles (I imagine PD is quite influenced by Best Motoring).

In the High Octane series from NZ they used time handicap reverse grid races. This is probably the best example of a "GT5 race". Made for some action packed races with lots of overtaking. Ketzal is annoying though.

I have also seen quite a few comparisons between F1 cars and road cars using this type of handicap start.

I'm sure there are countless other examples as well.

Its not just the seasonals, the AI in GT5 is non competitive. They barely race each other let alone the player. I'm an average driver at best and yet most of the so called races are very easy to win even when using cars that are lower powered than the AI.
The recent seasonal is a prime example of how bad the AI is. Its supposed to be for cars up to 500PP and yet I've beaten the Cape Ring race in a 395PP car that is completely stock except for changing to Sports Medium tires. Worst part is that the AI field is extremely uneven so that same car will finish 15+ seconds behind the Series One if it shows up on poll yet can have a tight finish with most of the other cars that show up in the field.
I can't race with other people online so for times I want to feel like I'm actually participating in a real race instead of some odd time trial with traffic I end up playing other racing games. (yes I'm unfaithful to GT so sue me but it's not the only game in town and risking yet more heresy it is far from perfect.)

The performance bonus in the Seasonal races is a great change for me. I've always run these races using a handicap in PP against the AI and I use OEM tires - SH or CS or whatever the car comes with.

Now, I actually get more money for making the races more competitive.
