I know ABS OFF has been discussed over and over again multiple times through multiple threads in this forum but I've yet to come across anything good for DS3 users. For those that are non-abs drivers that are confident with their driving on a DS3 using the "directional pads" for turning not the analog stick and L2 button for braking please help me!

I usually drive with my wheel when I drive with ABS OFF as I've heard countless times how hard it is for DS3 users to drive ABS OFF which is why I get turned away from using the DS3 to drive when switching ABS off and prefer to go back to my wheel. I'm thinking about attempting that challenge again with my DS3 but each time I do so I give up so easily as I'm finding the hardest part of keeping the tires from locking is not from the threshold braking part in a straight line but its the trail braking part when easing off the brakes and turning into the corner as a slight little tap on the right or left direction of the controller will easily spin the car out. It's so much easier with the wheel as steering and braking at the same time can be gently controlled.

Once again, I'm using the "directional pads" on the DS3 not the analog stick. I tried turning down the steering sensitivity to like -2 but the car still spins during trail braking. Threshold braking in a straight line is fine when coming for a corner as I use the L2 button for brake and can find the sweet spot. It's turning and braking at the same time during trail braking where the car spins out. Even with the slightest tap of the directional pad during turning as I ease off the brakes to 10% the car still spins during turning point. Just 10%?!?!?! I doubt that's realistic at all or maybe I should consider using the analog stick. I'm guessing it must be easier with the analog stick as steering can be more smoother and progressive instead of tapping with that of the directional pad

P.S. I don't like driving with the analog stick because it just feels weird for a driving game as it feels like I'm trying to drive a car like a fighter jet or something haha

The sudden steering input must be upsetting car more. You're probably one of the few who use the d-pad over the analog stick. Give the analog stick another chance. There's no way I could ever use the d-pad because the analog stick provides much more control over steering inputs and allows me to make small and gradual adjustments.

You obviously never played GT4, where using the analog stick was the most precise way to drive. Back when R2 and L2 werent pressure sensitive, I got used to using both analog sticks. It can be done, and eventually, it will feel fine. Just give it another shot.

The difficulty I have is trying not to move laterally on the Accelerate/brake stick.

It is still a problem when using the analogue sticks, I can just catch it though.

You have to try and brake in a straight line or I found I can sort of "pump" the brake if I lock up.

I used to play on Dpad on GT, GT2, GT3 and GT4 and GT5 is the first racing game I used the stick (L2 and R2 brake and accelerate)and I must say when you get used to it, its much better.

analog sticks suck for no abs.

use wheel

no abs on ds3 isnt worth the hassle.

Hi GTPLam, you will eventually need to adapt to drive with analog stick.
I have made a post about using an alternative DS2 stick which I currently use, it does the job perfectly.

But mind you, not all DS2 stick have better sensitivity on the face buttons - while the shoulder buttons are all the same. It's also more like a gamble ,of the 3 DS2 stick I have, only 1 suits me, but it's mile better than my DS3.

Edit : Another post I made that might be useful for stick user

The way i use my pad without ABS is using the rear buttons R2/L2. They are great for braking without ABS as you can feed the brakes on without locking up. I only race without ABS once in a while as i find it quite tiring, but most rewarding when you're in a hard battle and come out on top.

Ahhhh so its the sudden steering response that is causing the unexpected oversteer not the wheels locking up. No wonder they say its easier to drift with a DS3

Wow Ridox you modded your DS2 face buttons to allow you to control the pressure you press? That's very impressive I was wondering how you braked so consistently to 80% brake pedal pressure all the time with just the O button haha

Do you guys remember the rc cars with the controller that you hold like a gun that has a trigger to gas and a little steering wheel on the side? Haha I wish they bring one of those to the ps3

Unfortunately GPTLam, my DS2 may have exceptional throttle and brake control, but the steering with analog stick have shown it's deficiency in GTA, I could not steer smoothly enough to get good lap times. Braking wise, I could brake almost as late as those with ABS on at the Motegi GTA event, but entering the corner is a whole different world compared to using ABS.

The brake balance of 5/5 and it can't be modified in GTA, if only I could have the same BB like in GT5 - 9/7, I could brake as late as ABS and dive in corner without stepping out the rear so much :( Anyway rant over lol, I am happy with the stick, hope you could find a good DS2 like mine and really enjoy braking hard into every corner, blipping throttle and trail braking FTW.

I am a creature of habit and having perfected my driving style on GT1, I still play with the D-pad and X - Accelerate and Square - Brake.

I don't use any aids most of the time and I am pretty good with getting the pressures right on the buttons. I am aware there are much better setups out there, but I like it and I paid for it so I am sticking to it until I can convince my better half that a wheel is a good purchase.

There are however some cars you simply have to use ABS at 1 as without force feedback and pedals with a decent travel you will be pirouetting like an ice-dancer because a pad is simply not sensitive enough to hit the sweet spot.

Also, the tyres, brake balance and lsd settings make quite a difference too, so get used to playing with them.
