it would be awesome if GT4 had ABS control on the cars. Like the ASM, and Traction control. in gt3 i always end up sliding in turns, due to locked up wheels, i try to ease off brakes, but doesn't help as much as ABS would, maybe it'll be in gt4...let's hope

buddy, do you know what ABS is? it's Anti-Lock Brake system, the Brake Balance Controler just adjusts the amount of brake power to the wheels, it does'nt preven the wheels from locking up, even on an extremely low level...

I never use the electrical aids anyeay, but the BBS isn't ABS, BBS is how har the calipers clamp the disk, ABS is where the calipers will release the disk the clamp back onto it again when the wheels lock, it's like tapping the brake but really really fast.

I am pretty sure the cars in GT3 all have ABS. I swear I remember reading that somewhere... if you think about it in game, it is true. When you enter a corner and push the brakes as hard as you can, you would just use 100% of your traction to stop and couldn't turn the wheel at all. In GT3 I have done full brake application and still been able to turn easily.

Try playing F355 challenge, and take off ABS. Then you will realize what it is like to drive without ABS.

Also, you aren't sliding because of locked up wheels. You probably are taking the turns way to fast, or have screwed with your brake balance to give you uncontrollable braking. I can slam on the brakes and take turns fine...

same thing with LFS... the car had no ABS an if u try to brake and turn the car just slides straight, u have to keep taping the brake while turning...

i swear to, i think it may have been in the manual that came with the game, or in game, but i am with you on this one.

ABS is by the way NOT the best for race cars ... ever seen any race cars with ABS on .... no ... it's just for those tank-like cars out of Germany ... only way to stop them without sliding ... look at F1 cars ... they don't have it ... and neither does the Viper !

F1 cars did have ABS in the 90's but it was made illegal once again because the cars were too fast and easy to drive with it...

Ok, I did not know that ... but I know for a fact that most race cars in real life do not have ABS.

And Rally cars will never have it ...

If you are a good enough driver, you can stop better than ABS with threshold braking. Sure you can't do it consistantly, whereas with ABS you just slam the brakes as hard as you can and let the computer do the rest. Most real life drivers on the road suck anyway. They only know the brake and accelerator as an on/off switch.

In rallying, you actually stop better with your wheels in full lock on gravel roads. Now, you can't turn when doing that but also since your tires are constantly leaving the ground and if you happen to tap the brakes while a tire is off the ground the ABS will have a fit. And pretty much in rally, you are controlling your car more with left food braking than actual steering input.

ASM is Stability control.

I'm pretty sure that GT3 has ABS, because as someone said you can just slam the brakes down and the car will not lock a wheel and go straight forward. In the GT4 demo I played, on the first turn of Fuji circuit I braked just like I would in GT3 (Ok not exactly, because I didn't use the analog stick for braking and accelerating) and the cars rear actually slid out and I had little controll untill I released the brakes. I was really impressed by that, because I always thought braking was too easy in GT3.

Rally cars are a different story and you are correct there, they will never have ABS, for snow and gravel events anyway.
As for other race cars, you'll find in many classes where some cars run with ABS and some without it, those with ABS are often given a slight weight penalty to slow them down, as it is known to be an advantage.
As Bill-182 said, sure a good racing driver could, a few years ago anyway, beat ABS, but these days modern systems on race cars and some road cars are just about perfect, on smooth grippy roads.

Anyway, back to GT. How do good racing drivers manage to brake so well without ABS? Feel. They feel where the point of lockup is, they feel it through the front wheels, through the pedal, and through the car. All of which I think you'll agree would be pretty hard to do in GT. It's just too hard to be able to accurately sense the onset of lockup in a game, so therefore ABS makes teh cars driveable.

probably the same reason it has pushrods:D

i love my vipers:p

has anybody felt ABS working IRL? goddamn it feels like the car wont stop but it actually is... almost messed my pants. 👎 btw i slamed the brakes from 90mph to 25-30ish
