I see this mentioned all the time on here but I have never seen an option to turn it on or off, is it supposed to be in the driving options?
 
Uh, no. Take a gander at the quick tune menu, Its on there, about half way down. 👍
 
how many of you actually drive without ABS on?
 
I haven't tried no ABS yet because I have only been playing with my DS3 since the update came out. I might try it the next time I have my DFP set up.
 
When I get my Prologue, I am so going to turn off ABS for the F2007. XD
 
I run no ABS on all of my cars.
 
It allows me to be the driver I am, not just sit shotgun with a computer doing the work for me. Makes me not just mash the brake when I need to stop or slow down. Makes you work on being smooth and fast. It is proven that a human can brake better than ABS.
 
A human can brake better than ABS, but probably way less than 1% can. In real life I prefer no ABS, but in a game there are so many things missing.
 
I try to not use ABS in time trials but im not good enough with it to be able to use it reliably in races yet
 
I am amazed that till this day most people still do not know what ABS is designed for and what it actually does.

I'm an auto mechanic and I specialize in brakes, including ABS. I agree most people don't know much about it.
 
Im pretty sure I know what ABS was designed for and what it does. I am not saying that I am better than the ABS in GT yet, but I like to know when I have gone past the limits. Yes, there are things missing to be able really feel what the car(and all things in the car) is doing.
I am just saying that my preference is no abs. I would rather learn right instead of just mashing the brakes when I need to slow down.
 
Hey, all I know is that IRL, with ABS, I can steer when I'm braking. Of course, this allows me to pull off all manner of quasi-legal and sometimes outrageous manoeuvres that would have the Old Bill choking on their bacon butties, but stupid is as stupid does! :dopey:

TBH, I don't see the problem is with ABS. If the car has it IRL, then why can't you use it in the game? This is where PD need to enforce the actual mechanics of a car more rigorously than they do. Using ABS, TCM and ASM, does not make you an amateur driver any more than driving without them makes you a professional driver.

Something that also caught my attention was that video on GT:TV about the Lancer Evolution X. To get a realistic feel for that car, I'd say it would be better to drive with all the aids turned ON!

I like driving without ABS sometimes. Its just something different. Manufacturers these days equip ABS on their cars so I switch back and forth between using it on level 1 for the simulation aspect of the test drive and sometimes turning it completely off with level 0 to learn how to drive it without ABS.

I'd like to see the QTS points refunded when we remove ABS from the car or either reduce the cars weight without affecting the QTS points because we removed the ABS system. That is the real life benefit when races remove ABS. Adds more work to their braking, but in turn they get weight savings too.
 
Just tried driving the Suzuki Swift / tuned without ABS, and whilst it was hard, I did enjoy it. One thing I noticed was that the brake balance controllers settings were more obvious that when used with ABS on. I'll try it tonight with an 4WD car to see the difference. 👍

agree with the learning part,but even with abs on,its absolutely better not(!) to mash the brakes....even with abs on you can increase your stopping by not putting 100% brake power to your pedal....:)

I always drive without ABS and that with a SIXAXIS.
 
I vary, sometimes I drive with no traction control or ABS, sometimes I drive with both on, but TC is always set low. It depends if I want to challenge myself and by how much, I'm definitely faster with them both on but I enjoy driving wit hthem off in a less competetive race.

Yeah, I am not saying that I just mash the brakes when I have had ABS on, but its harder to tell when youve gone past the point and the abs actually kicks on. Yeah, if you put 100% braking very quickly yes it will come on obviously, but its hard to tell.
 
Very useful having it turned off for any front drive car(try the mini), as it allows you to rotate the car a little and get it pointed in the right direction. I think its pretty amazing how much the driving experience changes with abs off.

The M3 with abs and all other aids off is real handful.;)

this is true, I will only switch ABS off if the car IRL doesnt have it.BTW can you switch off ABS in the class A,B,C challenges?????

Yep, just ask Russ Swift about rotating a MINI, or anything else with 4-wheels for that matter :)
 
As others I switch ABS off only on cars that do not have in in real life.
 
What's the difference between ABS 1 and 10? Does ABS 1 kick in much slower after your wheels lock than ABS 10?

ahh........Because....... I want the cars to behave realistically, for example I don't want my 07 GTR locking up all over the place when there is no way of turning it off normally on real cars (without doing dodgy mods).

And I don't see how ABS sucks, it is one mainstream aid that doesn't actually slow a fast driver down, although I good driver using threshold braking can do a better job on a good road in a straight line, the ABS has one advantage........ It can control individual tyres, something one brake pedal cannot give the driver control of, which makes it safer and in some conditions faster.

I am more than happy (and enjoy it) to use no ABS on cars that don't have it in real life, but I don't see the point on disabling it on cars that have it in real life (without dodgy disabling), unless it makes you feel like a REAL MAN!
