It'll be interesting to see if the accident rate goes up at the Nurburgring with the release of this game.

I do a lot of track days at circuits like Donington and Silverstone etc. and you always get someone stuffing it into the kitty-litter after they've 'learned' the circuit on a driving game.

If the accident rate goes up there will be more people killed in germany than in WW2*sarcasm*. The Nurburgring Nordshleife is one of the most dangerous tracks in the world and your not going to learn it by playing gt4.lol

Wow, so many corners to perfect on the nurgburgring. First time I was driving it I was amazed at the elevation changes. But that makes me wonder.....if it already takes a lot of time to perfect the ring I must be mind boggling how many times you'll have to lap the ring in real time if you would wanna perfect it in real life. And with so many bumps I found it surprising the death rate isn't already succeeding WWII. I mean it crazy so dangerous sometimes taking corners at 180 km/u, hard to imagine you can become a ringmeister without spinning off the track a few times. With the pace of some straights it's insane to imagine anyone can learn this track without the aid of some sort of virtual test ride.

It might. But me, I wouldn't drive it like I do in the game at first, because the way I drive it in the game sends me into walls sometimes. I'd have to warm up first ;)

maybe not that many poeple are wrecking because they don't have very fast cars. And they are not used to pushing their cars to the limit. Remember in gt4 we are driving crazy hp race cars with no fear of death.

Get me to germany with my car on that track and i will drive alot slower than in the game. but it will still be tons of fun

On average, there are 2 life threatening accidents a week on the ring. I think if people know the track better, than that will help them, but if they think a game is good enough, and try to push themselves before they know the real track, then you'll have accidents. Most ring guides insist that new drivers are passangers for at least 5 laps before they drive on it. And then, you need at least 30 laps before you start to push yourself hard.

i have no clue where i should be asking this or what but does anyone know what all the writing on the track's pavement is for i noticed some of them have names of people and stuff so i was thinkin they might be names of drivers who died at first but then i noticed opel's logo is at some places on the pavement as well as audi's and the peace sign

i would say as long as you are not a reckless driver, training the ring in a game before can help you. because then you know where the very difficult bits are.
driving the ring for the first time without any knowledge about it can be especially dangerous because if you go really slow and take a confused line then you will be an obstacle for the really quick guys and you would have to look even more into the rear view mirror as well as on the track in front of you.
even if regular road laws apply on the ring during the track days, lots of regular ringers drive too fast and do dangerous overtaking maneuvres, also on the right.
and if you are a reckless driver i think it does not matter whether you have driven it before in a game or not.
i guess i would be more scared of the fast drivers than of the track itself...

I believe its just graffiti, since the track goes past three villages and through a lot of forest. It must be fairly easy to sneak in.

Well actually we germans know how to drive fast cars on dangerous tracks :)

You know about the formula one Champion and record holder ? He´s called Michael Schumacher and he is german :dopey:

But now honestly: It´s amazing how many really good drivers are day by day at the Nurburgring.

There are not many beginners and even if there are a few stupid ones they normally gain respect after the first corners of Hatzenbach.

And the Adenauer forst will sort the others out :)

The locals tell me it takes about 300 laps to get to know it , not master it. Im currently around 150-175 and only last year did I do my first laps in the wet. Scared the bugger out of me. Visibility wasnt the best. Some piccies here: http://scn.game-host.org/~nick/gallery/ring2004

The track is accessable at night on foot. Common myth that its dead names its not. otherwise I must be dead about 15 times!

I have heard many people including Racing Drivers Past & Present who have raeced at the Ring say that it is the Most Dangerous & Demanding track in the world. I have done several laps on GT4 & many on Grand Prix Legends & i agree with them. Me & my mates would love to drive around it in real life, maybe not push like mad & go for speed but we would love to get to experience it 1st hand. It was on Top Gear not that long ago where the presenter (Jeremy Clarkson) had a diesel S-Type Japguar & was going for a time under 10 mins. He said that he couldn't comment on the lap as he was driving & that he was feeling really ill as he was no nervous.

I have heard the opposite! People with a hundred or so laps on the ring says that it is damn accurate and well suited for learning the track. This game does however not make people into regular Walter Röhrl's. ;-)

I still don't see how people want to ride on the motorcycles on the ring. Theres no way in HECK that I would go out on track in anything without a rollcage and proper safety gear. Knowing that someone could have the tracked blocked up ahead, slowing down for a crash and getting hit from behind, or just hitting a pool of oil or some other crash debrits really puts me off on going out on track on a bike.

As far as saying that more crashes will ensue from GT4 having a very nicely replicated Nurburgring then I doubt that more crashes will happen from first timers going 100% on their very first lap because they set the world record in GT4. NOBODY will do that, even I wouldn't and I know the GT4 nurb front to back. Real life is a whole different thing.

Anyone remember that video someone posted a while ago with someone driving a RUF at crazy speeds at the Ring?? I mean in real life that is, next to the video of one driving the Ring in the game. You saw him go past motorcycle riders, holy crapola, I'd hate to ride a bike there knowing that cars will fly by at 200km/h. I doubt there's much of a chance to survive once a RUF loses traction, spins out and crashes into you on your Yamaha.

I saw that episode--one of my favorites. It was really funny because at the end of the show they played the tape of the female guide (who had grown up driving the 'Ring) driving the Jag for the first time and demolishing the time that Clarkson tried so hard to get :D.

lol that was hilarious on top gear, i have it saved on my computer lol

but hey... thats EXTREMELY good for not knowing the track... at all!

omg.. thats a good idea, is that jaguar in GT4? that would be good to compare that and make a list lol hmm...

The real RUF CTR on the ring on street tires "8'17.xxx in traffic!!!", http://www.gofastvideo.com/gallery/...acing-videos/ruf-porsche---stefan-rosler.html though right now their server seems to be having problems, I cant get the video when I click on the play link. Lots of pictures aren't showing up on there too, so check bace every now and then to see if they get it back up.

 shameless plug for semi comparison.

i done it in the jag s-type with sports tires, no assists and no mods. My first complete lap was a 8:22.051, but that was a R and it wasnt a diesel.

It'd be interesting to hear from someone who's driven the real Ring many, many times what they think about GT4's version and it's accuracy.

Heh when I did the IA final test (?) with the Merc Evo II (Not race car) I noticed the bronze time was 10:00mins & I thought "Well Clarkson did it in a diesel Jag in 9:59 so I better beat that!" thankfully I got one of my few silvers on my first attempt. :)
