ps i would love to test my grip skills there, i however would not drift there untill i mastered it.

The Nurburgring is not for drifting. Take your ricer somewhere else.

I'd love to have the oppertunity to be able to drive on the track however I'd much rather ride as a passenger and let a skilled 'Ring vetern do all the driving instead.

if u read carefully thats what i was trying to say ( not in so many words ), i would not attemp to drift that track at all,

chill out, and when did drifting become rice, that doesnt make since at all.

im not even drifting on the streets in the states yet, i keep it in parking lots so i can learn to apply my technique. and if u think drifting is ricey it may be because u cant do it, that seems to be the case alot.

have a nice day.

ps ur a new member like me here, u should be tryign to make friends

If the accident rate goes up there will be more people killed in germany than in WW2*sarcasm*. The Nurburgring Nordshleife is one of the most dangerous tracks in the world and your not going to learn it by playing gt4.lol
I'd still go slow on my first 10 laps and then get progessively quicker, but watching the video of the M3 GTR i really do recognise the corners, so Id work out breaking distance and lines quicker than otherwise.

I am pretty familiar with the track in GT now. I know the bits where I can drive flat out the bits where a bit of caution does not go amiss. It is still easy to make a minor error, even knowing the track. Once the car went completely out of control when it went up a curb. I have yet to do a perfect "clean" lap in a fast car, but at least I seem to be able to avoid simulating "fatal" accidents on most of my runs there!!

If I ever get to drive it in real life I know I would be extra careful initially.

I've done around 5-10 perfect laps, I hit a 7:12 in my Skyline N1, only it was with a fair bit of drafting, Im gonna tune it and then go for some hard core hot laps on sports tires.

Anyone remember that video someone posted a while ago with someone driving a RUF at crazy speeds at the Ring?? I mean in real life that is, next to the video of one driving the Ring in the game. You saw him go past motorcycle riders, holy crapola, I'd hate to ride a bike there knowing that cars will fly by at 200km/h. I doubt there's much of a chance to survive once a RUF loses traction, spins out and crashes into you on your Yamaha.
The cyclists there are no good though, they take lines like they're setting lap records and dont yield for the proper drivers.

Heh when I did the IA final test (?) with the Merc Evo II (Not race car) I noticed the bronze time was 10:00mins & I thought "Well Clarkson did it in a diesel Jag in 9:59 so I better beat that!" thankfully I got one of my few silvers on my first attempt. :)

I was suprised on that test, i already knew the track from racing it loads on free race and i found the pace car slowing me down too much. I hit it 5 times because it broke to early and went too slow through 2 different corners. So i had to back off a bit but i still cleared Gold by 6 seconds.

 yeah I found that too on a number of occasions. Nearly crashed a couple of times due to trying to avoid rear ending the pace car. Still it was fun.

No pace car in final S license though, although I only got a bronze on my first attempt :grumpy: Partially due to me taking it easy though since I just wanted S License :sly:

The one other thing that people are forgetting about the real Nurburgring is the weather.

I've driven the 'ring (IRL) and the changes in weather around the track was quite amazing. One part of the circuit can be totally dry, while its raining in another part.

It makes it quite a different place in the real world, as the wet, cold surface in places provides minimal grip.

On the subject of bikes at the 'ring, I must confess that i've never understood the attraction. As an ex-biker I know just how badly the adverse cambers and surface undulations would affect the handling, its no wonder that the majority of accidents at the 'ring involve bikes. Its also a far quicker circuit in a car than a bike, as all the lap times I've seen demonstrate.

Have been to the ring a few times in my Intega Type R, probably drivin about 30 laps, still don't know all the corners properly.. GT4 is pretty accurate, but there is no way in real life I could drive as fast as I do on GT4 with a Honda Integra Type R.
The GT4 track does help you remember some of the corners

Love those videos! I always thought I'd love to take my GTI out there, but now I'd be looking in my mirror the whole time, making sure that I don't block the racing line. :nervous:

Do they have anything at the track where you can sit passenger to a local pro?

I believe there are Ring taxis you can book. In fact the girl who beat Clarkson's 10 min in the Jag (mind you that was from bridge to bridge, not the GT4 lap) drives one.

Driven the ring in my focus a few years ago, can vouch for the weather changes, it was a bit slippy to say the least. Took a video of the lap and compared it to the GT4 version, so similar. Now have a Integra Type R over for a holiday, hopefully later this year! Now I can drive a virtual lap in my car!

..thats fing uncalled for.. i bet you dont even know what the word "rice" comes from.. really... or even know what "rice" is at that.. cause alot of people dont and im sick of people saying they know stuff when they dont.

speaking of going to nordschleife.. man.. when my dad lived there (when his dad [..erm grandfather? lol] was in the army, they moved around alot) he was just a few miles away from that town, and its actually a really spectacular place, beautiful scenery

anyways... it only costs 20$ a day to drive there.. for a whooole day! :D
(and if yall saw that edition of Top Gear when they went there.. i still had to laugh each time i saw that of the guy that said he crashed his car there and STILL went there every day! lol poor guy)

sad thing is.. im 16.. and i've raced that track probably about 9 or so laps on GT4, and about 3 laps in GPL... and i nearly know the track by heart lol

Wow, so many corners to perfect on the nurgburgring. First time I was driving it I was amazed at the elevation changes. But that makes me wonder.....if it already takes a lot of time to perfect the ring I must be mind boggling how many times you'll have to lap the ring in real time if you would wanna perfect it in real life. And with so many bumps I found it surprising the death rate isn't already succeeding WWII. I mean it crazy so dangerous sometimes taking corners at 180 km/u, hard to imagine you can become a ringmeister without spinning off the track a few times. With the pace of some straights it's insane to imagine anyone can learn this track without the aid of some sort of virtual test ride.

I agree. Everytime there is writing on the track...that's where people have died.

very well said, person he was talking about lol. Im the not looking for trouble, I dont know if that guy is a bad guy: but that comment didnt need to be made.

thanks

I think in GT4 I'll need around 500 laps on the nurburgring to really get to know it, but still far away from a ringmeister. In RL you gradually build up your skill, so that means it would take you at least 2000+ laps or something to really master it. And I suppose in RL it's not worth it pushing yourself so hard on such a dangerous track. Pushing hard can be fun but not at 250 ks/hour. But this sure sets me thinking in how much aid GT4 can give you. I guess I'll have to wait till I can upgrade car before I find out. 1.4 liter Renault 5 wouldn't do much good there I guess lol

thegreatms
maybe not that many poeple are wrecking because they don't have very fast cars
doesnt make a difference.one guy from a local board wrote of his 1.2 cleo on the second corner cause he thought he had perfected the track on a computer game

I saw a racer being interviewed about the Nurb before and he said it'll take 50 laps to know where it goes, and the rest of your life to actually learn it.

It was on Top Gear not that long ago where the presenter (Jeremy Clarkson) had a diesel S-Type Japguar & was going for a time under 10 mins. He said that he couldn't comment on the lap as he was driving & that he was feeling really ill as he was no nervous.

I remember that show - he eventually clocked a 9:59 - then a local girl got in and beat his time by 30 seconds!!!

there is the 507 hp bmw m5 ring-taxi, which you can book for 160€ the lap (fixed price, up to 3 passengers). its usually driven by sabine schmitz (the girl from the top-gear episode). she is really fast. problem is, its already booked till all the oil reserves runs out...
http://bmw-motorsport.com/04-856DDBDA77A3B53706C6B00DEAE3C0EE/ring-taxi/de/index.html

then there is the 420 hp zakspeed viper gts, which you can book for 260€ a lap, of course only for one person. ;)
its usually driven by peter zarkowski who won the 24h race on the ring several times with the viper..

but of course you can also just go there, walk around the parking lot and ask some of the people. maybe someone will just take you a lap round for free. :)

REALLY?

I thought it was just people scrawling :(

The track is accessable at night on foot. Common myth that its dead names its not. otherwise I must be dead about 15 times!

cool, now its just the little problem of getting there...
(i.e., got no time or money)

trust me.. a lot of learning can be done in a renault 5... plus the chance of you killing yourself less.. becuase you wont push yourself as hard...

Well yea any car can be raced actually. But a cheap renault 5 is 1 not reliable enough, and second, I'll be checking my mirror more often than checking for the next corner. I rather wait for having bought my next car. I'm thinking about buying a '94 or '95 nissan 200sx or something like that. When I have that, and learned the course, THEN I'll go. And then slowly building up skill instead of doing the same that clio 1.2 did whahaha.

Also, that Honda S2000 around the ring is an awesome vid. That guy really knows the track pretty well. I wonder how much tuning is done on it. And what's wrong with his shifting? Everytime he heel and toe's when he downshift it looks as if he throttles too less, leaving the rest of the rpm matching work up for the engine/clutch. I've never seen BMI drivers do this, they seem to be a lot more really accurate in RPM matching.

I have driven in the ring a few laps and been in the passenger side a couple of times, quite a few of them in the rain, very nice, by the way,Buzzin Hornet, I was there in 2004 when that massive rain hit. if you know what you're doing and pay attention, the rain can also be very fun, we even passed GT3's when it rained in our Golf Tdi, so it's not the fast car, just keep the momentum up and you'll do fine.
I believe by what everyone has told me and by a bit of experience, with 50 laps if you do them slowly and learning are more than enough to be fast in a slow car, then to really know the track and be fast in fast cars you need the rest of your life.
