Ace Combat 6 (possible X360 exclusivity + huge online gameplay support = ADV X360!)

While I'm not sure of Ace Combat's popularity in Japan, I can think of one other series that is no longer PS3 exclusive where the extra 360's sold won't mean much for the game's bottom line sales.

What? You just said that a few posts ago.

Anyway, I'll just stab away like a blind fool... Devil May Cry? Virtua Fighter? Bladestorm? Aww, just spill the beans!

Well, I would think that VF5 would have some decent sales on the 360, at least near the amount of the PS3 version. On the PS3, VF5 isn't exactly a million seller, and the 360 crowd would probably like a good fighter game.

The Virtua Fighter series is a million seller to such a ridiculous extent that it gives GTA a run for its money...in Japan. In America people either buy Tekken or Soul Caliber. Or second tier crap like Mortal Kombat or Dead or Alive. In Japan the Virtua Fighter series has a fanatical following that few religions can achieve. It will be a system seller for the PS3.
That fact alone, combined with the 3-to-1 PS3 to 360 sales makes me think that Sega not giving Sony the game as an exclusive, while still helping them no doubt, is no where near as big a deal as it is made out to be by various parties.
The problem is, though, that I don't know how well the Ace Combat series does in Japan. I know it is absurdly popular in the U.S. (1.5 million copies of AC4 alone), however, and that market is the prime market for the 360. If Microsoft did in fact take the series from Sony (even temporarily) it will probably be a good move for them.

That's the thing though... 360 gamers want a fighter that doesn't have Dead or Alive plastered on it. PS3 sales in Japan aren't anything worth writing home about (80k per month vs 240k for the Wii and 24k for the 360). Now, if there were several million PS3s sold in Japan, you'd make a valid point, but since there isn't...

I'm not expecting VF5 to sell a million copies on the 360 and whatnot, but it's not going to bomb and sell 50k units in a month, which would qualify as "not adding to Sega's bottom line". I'm guessing about 400k+ sales in the first month at least.

As for the Ace Combat timed exclusive news, that makes sense. But knowing Namco, they'd make AC6 360 exclusive for the hell of it, and make AC7 a year later (like with Riiidge Racer!).

Its been out on the PS3 for more than a month. Has it sold more than 130k or so since then in America? Hell, it bombed in Japan, for chrissakes.

It would seem to be a timed exclusive if Kotaku are right. linky
A timed AC6 exclusive for the 360 starts to make more sense. It would not only allow Namco to release a product sooner, rather than later, but to a much larger potential market.

Then with more development time, it would also allow them to release an exclusive version of AC6 for the PS3 that would be able to take advantage of the much greater disc capacity, processing, and features of the PS3. By that time the PS3 user base will undoubtedly be much larger and thus offer Namco a potentially larger return on their investment.

Win-Win for Namco, and for PS3 users, it wouldn't change much, other than a delay in its release as Namco would obviously have to divert some of their resources for the XB360 version.

So far though, it is still too early to jump to any conclusions, as Namco is not likely going to make any official announcement on future plans. So far the only information is coming from 3rd party news sites with no official quotes from any named sources at Namco. Whether there "reports" turn out to be true or not is irrelevant, it’s still speculation until Namco says otherwise.

D-N, they're Namco. I'm expecting AC7 a year later that's AC6 with slightly better graphics, some extra jets, 1080p, and maybe a few extra missions. Not a complete rebuild of the game to take full advantage of the PS3 to please PS3 fans. That's why Cellius exists.

Just wanted to mention that the concept of "exclusive" is changing as the gaming industry develops.
Right now AC6 could be exclusive to the xbox360 but in time it might now be (RE4 anyone?).
There are plenty of games that do this (although not many come to my mind right now).

Bottom line:
I'm not saying there will be a PS3 version of AC6 but I certainly am not saying the Ace Combat series is done on Playstation. :sly:

I got an email from Namco. There is a sign-up to get a newsletter for the latest Ace Combat games. In the message is says: Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation.

Just as a note: VF5 didn't "bomb" in japan just because it's on PS3. It bombed because it's the same version that has been in arcades for over a year, while previous VF games had Ver B or Evo, and it sold them very well.

If VF5: Evo (which is already rumored to come out in the Fall in arcades) makes it's way to PS3 sometime next year, I'm pretty sure it will make a much bigger splash, considering it'll add two more characters to the roster.

Also, I'm pretty sure Ace combat will be timed exclusive, and will only matter in the US, even then, I don't think it's success will be quite as huge off the bat, as AC4 and AC5 had quite a following due to the enormous install base, which at the time, was around 50-60 million.

So it's 360 only? Damn, I love the ace combat series. I love ace combat 5 because of the story and still play it today. Wish it would eventually come to PS3 though.

Well, the exclusiveness is iffy. The only way we know it could be coming to 360 is that OXM said "Not only is Ace 6 the first time the series has departed from a Sony platform and handhelds, but it's a timed exclusive for Xbox 360. It won't hit the other systems for a while." Now, this is supposedly from the May '07 issue. I haven't seen any scans from that article that proves what was said, but if anyone keeps their OXM issues, it'd be helpful (and worthy of +rep ;)) if you confirmed it. But other than that, I've seen nothing about a PS3 version.

But then again, Namco could also pull a Ridge Racer and make 6 360-exclusive, and 7 PS3-exclusive.

Or it could be a 360 exclusive like any other 360 exclusive and not have a bunch of strings attached.

Has there been any official word on X360 exclusivity? The last time I checked Namco has remained silent regarding whether or not AC:6 was exclusive to the X360 or if they are staggering the releases, and that possibly AC:6 will be exclusive to X360, AC:7 exclusive to PS3, etc. Basically, other than the announcement that AC:6 will be coming out for the X360 in November, everything else is speculation.

The trailer for AC:6 looks nice, and while the graphics for the characters in the cut scenes is improved, as are the cityscapes in the cut scenes, the aircraft look the same as AC:5 which is more of a compliment to the quality of AC:5 then a complaint about the AC:6 trailer. This is especially impressive considering AC:5 is nearly three years old and was rendered in 480i. Of course the trailer isn't even in HD, so I hope the graphics will be much better than what that trailer shows.

I'd really like to see the actual game play footage though as that is what matters the most. I'm surprised they didn't even have a short sample of it in the trailer as it is supposed to come out in only five months.

If the PS3 version doesn't come out soon afterwards, I'll be hanging out with a neighbor more than usual as he has a X360... or if the rumors turn out to be true that a PC version is in the works, maybe I'll get that. I'm an AC junky, so no matter what I'm going to have to get my fix! :D

Like I said in my previous post (you probably haven't read it as you were making your post) I really haven't seen any press release about whether it'll be exclusive. Something similar is happening with Eternal Sonata – it was announced for only the 360 but never exclusive, and one little thing (in this case the ESRB rating ES for 360 and PS3) raised confusion.

Here's gameplay screens:

But I never knew it'd be here this fall! Wallet am cry confirmed.

...Or you could buy a 360 for yourself, and know what it's like to get beaten by a duck! :sly:

👍

Well the top three look like gameplay shots, but I'm always very suspicious of "screen shots" of games in production as it is easy to "clean-up" a still shot. That said, if the actual video gameplay looks like those three screens then it is definitely an improvement of AC:5!

I'm still waiting for you to join us in all the F1:CE action so I can see your expression when I lap you on Nürburgring... :D

Oh, God. Why must I save Usea again?

I'm not impressed at all.
I kown what you mean, but if Namco follows through, it will have 16-player "Battle Royale" and "Team Battle" modes, cooperative play, leaderboards, and downloadable content.... even if it ends up looking basically the same as AC:5 and similar story line, those added online extras alone would make this an absolute MUST BUY game for me!

Also D-N, can you move this thread to the 360 forum?

Carefull.... last time you poked me with a stick I nearly chopped your head off. :)

Besides, I though it was you that said you "knew" (not guessed) that AC:6 was going to be multi-platform...

Duċk;2608539
...And for the record, I doubt it'll be 360 exclusive. I know it will be multiplatform, however.
:)

Actually I don't mind moving it, and as the only platform it is currently scheduled for is for the X360 I agree it should be moved, and deserves a new title as well.

So here she goes...

Thanks for the new title as well. 👍

EDIT: Here's the 720p version of the trailer:

Green? I didn't think I could get more disappointed with AC6. 👎

I rather use my AC5 Hori Flight Stick 2.

Black FTW. 👍

I didn't get too far into AC: Zero, but I loved AC:5. The jump to 360 is nice, as this was one of the franchises I hated leaving behind deciding not to go with a PS3 this round. But, after all, it worked out in my favor.

Either way, it looks like a good game, and as long as it has plenty of those "Oh S!" moments that I loved from AC:5, I'll be very happy indeed.

Plus, the sticks look like fun, but I doubt I'll buy them...

IGN
What we were able to get our hands on was a demo level that gamers will get to check out for themselves once E3 rolls around. The level began with a gorgeous real-time cinematic that showed pilots scrambling to get to their jets and get into the air. Apparently an attack had just been launched by a foreign country. Roadways, bridges, and buildings were shown being pummeled with missile and machine gun fire. While the locales are fictional in the game - the main setting being the Anean Continent - the necessity for a counterattack was made very clear.

Looks like a demo is coming soon. :D

Green? I didn't think I could get more disappointed with AC6. 👎

I rather use my AC5 Hori Flight Stick 2.
The green doesn't bother me nearly as much as the bland white and toy like colored buttons. In fact, had they just added the green base label to the black AC:5 stick it would have looked great.

The new stick just looks really cheap. The AC:5 stick looks far better. I can only assume they made the change to make the stick look like the Xbox. 👎

How does it being green make it look cheap? It's green, big deal.

I have the black Hori Flight Stick 2 from AC5 and compared to this green version, the black version is miles ahead. It looks solid and worth the $130. This green version looks like an accessory for the Dreamcast. I'm not saying it won't be worth the price, it is just that the color gives it an impression of a low quality toy for children. These flight sticks are definitely for mature audiences.
